Ethan -- and Brokeback is a shoe in for at least three of those awards -- probably four.  I think it still has a chance of getting most awards of any movie this year.  That is saying a lot during a year where it looks like almost every movie is equally being honoured.

The academy is composed of past winners. so older guys who have worked with past winners tend to win. Nepotism rules in Hollywood unfortunately (also here in the UK) None of it really matters . It's would just be so nice to see the film we love get some kind of recognition in the industry.

I totally agree with you--the awards are just the opinions of a few people. How many times have you read a bad review about a film, saw it, and loved it? The people who vote don't have any more culture or "better" opinions than we do. They are just lucky enough to be included in the vote for whatever reason. Anyone watching a film can have an opinion on it and all of those opinions are valid.

lily tomlin is an out gay lady.  do you know robert altman in all his years and films NEVER won an acadamy award.  never hurt him....however where are some of the people who did win?  are they still around?  think about that.....some have evaporated.  our guys and gals will go on and on and on - they keep showing michelle-she is radiant.  jake was ONLY 23 when he made bbm and heath was 25.  wow babies in a way.

Someone said that the song has to be played in its entirety for it to be nominated for "best song" and A Love that Will Never Grow Old was only played for a few seconds.

Oscar rules, a song has to be played in full/or almost during movie to be nominated.

Yup!  He never won any... he is one of the best American Director.  I'm glad he got that recognition.
