Jack says I'm sorry, two I'ts alrights and then says come here, lie back. Put a ton of ! behind that one.OH MY GAWD!!! I saw the film 9 times in a theater, and I only heard "I'm sorry" once and "its alright" twice...but I NEVER heard "come here, lie back! OH MY GAWD!!! Did Jack really say that? :o WOW!!! How sexy is that! Now I am waiting AND salivating ;D! Donna
Jack says I'm sorry, two I'ts alrights and then says come here, lie back. Put a ton of ! behind that one.
damn, i cannot wait for the dvd!!! in german, there isn't even an "i'm sorry", but jack does say "come here, lie back" - i hadn't realized the lie back in the little snippet i saw on the internet... gotta check again, when i have the dvd, myself.
YEE HAW! My DVD just a arrived from Wolfe Video today, along with my BBM bandana. ;D :D ;D Now that I have decent volume control & subtitles, I was finally able to catch some of the dialog from the tent scenes that I could never hear in my downloaded bit torrent version. Our boys really DO say "Sorry" and "It's all right" in the tent scene. It may not be big screen, but there are definitely advantages to having the DVD. You guys are gonna love it! ;D
I've only played it once so far, so I haven't nailed down exactly who said what to whom, but what Esme said sounds about right. I had never heard that "Come here, lie back" before, but there it was! Now we can all finally know for certain.
Just got my DVD in the mail this afternoon. I'm sitting here in my bandana waiting for the sun to go down teasing myself, but I want the room dark like a theater to watch it. I still don't trust the subtitles. I know what I heard and it was ennis saying he's sorry with Jack slmost over speaking him with, "It's alright."
You should never trust subtitles. Sometimes the characters say a long sentence that would fill the screen or they all talk so fast the people that do the subtitles cut it down to fit, hopefully without losing any meaning.
The first television I bought with Closed Caption I couldn't believe how they change things. But, they HAVE to. They don't have a choice many times.

Besides, the way Ennis mumbles, you almost NEED subtitles to understand what he's saying, especially in the tent scenes.
Can you tell me - is there some easter eggs? Thank you. :)

As for the 2nd tent scene, many times I got the impression the words were added AFTER filming except for the "It's alright." Those words you can see Jack saying as he nods.ok...I heard I'm sorry too, but who is supposed to be saying it? If its Jack, why is he apologizing? If its Ennis I guess he's apologizing for not speaking to Jack when he rode off the next morning. :( ???Quote
The way I see it it is more likly that it is Jack, he does not appologize but sees how apprahensive Ennis is and says he is sorry for speeding it, but it is alright, come here. Would Ennis EVER appologize??? for anything??? he might mean to but say it??? No...makes more sense for it to be Jack
I watched the second tent scene over and over, and clearly hear, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." twice. As in the theater, I do not see Ennis's lips move. This is what confused me, but throughout the movie Ennis talks through the side of his mouth so this comes as no surprise. Jack is clearly responding back to something said not by himself, when he looks Ennis in the eyes, shakes his head and says, "It's all right." This is how I see it. The only other possible explanation is that they somehow dubbed Ennis's voice in after the scene.
Things I noticed:
1. It really touched me how Jack wants this second sexual scene (and first love scene in my opinion) to be Ennis's choice. He invites him in: tent opened, shirt off, but he lets Ennis decide if he wants to come. Absolutely beautiful!
2. I got a free screenplay with my DVD, so I see there is no direction regarding Ennis's approach to Jack in the second tent scene. I wonder, if the use of the hat was all Heath's idea. It was brilliant!
3. I don't know how I ever missed this one, but I never noticed the look on Jack's face when he says, "Pleases to meet you, Ennis del Mar." It is just priceless!
Can anyone tell me where they hear, "Come here. Lie back," in the second tent scene. I don't hear it. THANKS!
I really miss the big screen. Although it is great to be able to stop and play the movie as I like, it looses some of its impact in my opinion on a small screen.
The scene that has haunted me the most and where I have disagreed with people in here is the infamous second tent scene...sexy as it is, I haven't been hearing the I'm sorry and haven't seen Ennis mouth it either. Well. I just played the second tent scene with subs. First thing I did after tearing off theplastic. I just had to see if there was indeed an I'm sorry subbed there. And it is, but it isn't Ennis that says it. It is Jacke. I am sorry but that is my take on it. I have been paying so much attention to Ennis lips that I haven't even thought of Jacks. But when I saw the subbed I'm sorry I played it again ,watching Ennis lips and then again watching Jacks. This is my opinion. Jack says I'm sorry, two I'ts alrights and then says come here, lie back. Put a ton of ! behind that one.
After Ennis daughter left, he came in from the door and found the sweater she left behind He was walking from behind the camera and opened a door on the left side of the camera view. Does those trailers usually have two doors on the same side? Then when Ennis first walked into the trailer, the windows on both sides of him was shaded with blades, but when he folded the sweater and opened the closet door, the window behind the closet door was without blades and showing the view of outside. That is a little odd to me. Any one can explain?
He is not appologizing IMO, he is seeing how apprahensive Ennis is and aknowledging ( this word always bothers me when i have to spell it...) this and saying "I'm sorry (but) it's alright" I think the I'm sorry is for beeing so straight forward the first time.
Am going to bring it with me north this week, and If i get to see it then it will be on a 7 " portable screen ... now hows that for a small screen... ;)
After the DVD sitting on my desk since April 4, I finally unwrapped it and watched the DVD on my small TV set. It was the most emotional viewing I had after seeing it 8 times in the theatre. I guess the subtitle and the privacy of home did it and I was sobbing. Gosh -- how much tears do I still have to shed? The last BBM and the scene at the parents house got me bad. I could just let my emotions out at home. It was great.
It is amazing that I still picked up something that I had not seen before. I saw Alam washing clothes through the window when Ennis was picking up crying babies plus other little details.
Ethan - I just finished, I've sobbed my way through. I'm a mess. :'( I thought I was prepared this time to see it, but I wasn't.
...the PDS. It's not a joke by the way, not at all.
The way I see it it is more likely that it is Jack, he does not apologize but sees how apprehensive Ennis is and says he is sorry for speeding it, but it is alright, come here. Would Ennis EVER apologize??? for anything??? he might mean to but say it??? No...makes more sense for it to be Jack
Just got done watching it a little while ago at my friends house. Cried my eyes out. I started getting teary earlier in the film. Tonight, their time up on brokeback was so sad. I mean I know how it ends and just seeing that time of innocence and falling in love and what could/should have been really hit me more than ever tonight. :'(
I noticed their meeting after the blue parka scene was longer- I never heard Ennis say "Look what I brought" in the theater and I don't remember seeing them riding together in that scene. I also never noticed that Jack giggled after Ennis said he'd have gotten lucky if that harmonica had broken.
I still didn't hear "come here lie back" I had heard the I'm sorry, It's alright in the theater but I missed the "come here lie back"- I guess I'll have to keep watching that scene until I hear it! ;) I also tried to listen for Ennis saying I love you to the shirts but I didn't hear anything except what sounded like him taking a breath or exhaling. I'll watch that part again too.
It feels so weird to have them home. I've never felt so privileged to own a movie before.
read my previous post i think jake being jack is apologizing to heath playing ennis for the "spit string" and they just kept it in movie. imhoQuote
And I believe you are right, it is ALL said by Jack, not Ennis. "I'm sorry" 2 "Its Alrights" and "Come here, like back" is all said by Jack! yay I LOVE THAT SCENE EVEN MORE KNOW. HAHA!Maybe so...but why is JACK apologizing? He didn't do anything. It was Ennis who rode off that morning without talking to Jack. :(Quote
I agree Ethan, I just let myself get soaked so to speak in scenerey and the big picture at the movies, but on the small screen I watch it differentlyyou know what happens watching it on small screen...you fall in LOVE with jack and jakes acting. in the big screen you don't have enough time to see the expressions that make every scene jake is in work. ennis is the big fish on big screen. on small screen you get to see all the wonderful facial expressions and the little subtle moves of jack. i had the screener and it turned me into thinking jake did as good or better a job of acting as heath. and i fell in love with jack.
Ever since the first time I saw the film I have thought Jack was very much trying to be caring, sweet, and gentle...but when I heard that I just flipped... What it must have taken for him to say that... and it is like it is a treat to the ones of us liking it so much we see it agian and again, cause honestly, who heard it the first time??? It's like a reward, "thank you for loving us so much that you want to see us again and agian, here's a treat for ya"
Ethan - I just finished, I've sobbed my way through. I'm a mess. :'( I thought I was prepared this time to see it, but I wasn't.
Looks like we have a Post DVD syndrome now, the PDS. It's not a joke by the way, not at all.
you guys are cracking me up. the same discussions are going on at dave cullens forum. we are so all the same/
did you all hear jack say f*&k_____me when in FNIT. look and listen real hard. YOU ALL NEED TO BUY EARPHONES. When he and ennis are going at it in FNIT in the beginning after ennis goes in...watch jack and listen so close and you will hear a muffled f--k and then you will hear me (the me is really discernable).
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does FNIT stand for?? ???
It took me 12 ??? 13 ??? Whatever viewings to notice Ennis reading his first postcard from Jack and we see him reading with his lips. He is silent, he reads the card, close up on his face and his lips are saying the words, no sound. :P
Farsighted people hold things AWAY, not closer...maybe HEATH is nearsighted, even though Ennis is supposed to be farsighted.
I knew he was reading the post card but could never figure out why he was reading it with his lips moving. Then I thought maybe because Annie said he was farsighted so I figured he had trouble reading it. Then to, maybe he didn't learn to read much because of that. It must have been next to impossible to get him glasses they were so poor.
But no, no sound came out of his mouth.
This time - the line "To Alma and Kurt" with a toast got me really bad. No one made a toast for Jack and Ennis. :'( :'( :'(
Watched the DVD for the 2nd time tonight. I noticed that our boys' time on BBM is only 40 minutes or so. The more I see it, the shorter it gets.
Especially if you couple that with the look Ennis has when Alma tells him. WHen he looks out the window. He really understands what he has lost and what he could have had.
I know. It is heartbreaking just to see that. That is exactly what I was thinking. No one made a toast to him and Jack. If one day we get together, I will propose a toast "To Ennis and Jack" :'( :'(QuoteI have started to watch only theyr time on brokeback and nothing after that some times :(
That is a great idea. Thanks, Esme
mmm hnmmm I watched it with the subtitles... i especially like the first tent scene:
[blankets rustling]
[grunts]
[belts clinking]
[moaning]
[ennis gasps]
All we need now is interprative dance, and we're there. ;D
Greeting from the Netherlands

Some bizarre experience I had yesterday, I kept switching from the original version to the French dubbed one. One particular moment, in French, stucked me very hard.
After the Motel scene when Ennis comes back home to pick up clothes and stuff for his first "fishing trip", Alma is left alone in the house holding Junior and crying.
In French it's a bit different, she holds Junior, she cries and whispers to her daughter "serres moi fort" (hold me tight)
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Interesting addition I would say, I just cried buckets when I realized. Same now while I'm posting :'(

I was sure she said something similar in English too....
ok...then why did u start it mister? LOL!!!
Well, did you guys also hear Ennis saying "Later + Come here" in the Reunion scene (1st kiss, just before going upstairs to Alma). The whole story is getting very hot, if so ;D.Yes I heard the "Come here" and "Later" in the reunion scene...so this only goes to prove that you can't trust the subtitles, because the subtitles aren't there for this. And in the SNIT I still can't hear Jack say "Come on lie back", but its there in the subtitles. Sooo....
I thought Alma was saying "Its alright" when she was holding Alma Jr...probably trying to convince herself it would be alright. :'(.

Last night I was watching the heartbreaking scene.
I saw two tears dropped from Ennis when he turned to Jack and said "Why do you?..." :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Heartbreaking :'( :'( :'( :'(
camom, saw this posting somewhere... Could it be posted by your son? ;D
...."Just so I know I'm not alone here, do any guys that are straight (which is what I am) love this movie? It blew me away after me thinking I would hate it and avoiding it, then I watched it and...god, I'm speechless! And I'm 14...a teenage straight guy that loves Brokeback Mountain...
Do any other straight guys love this movie?"
CAmom, thank you for sharing your story. I think it is wonderful that you shared the movie with your son. I think it is even more wonderful that a 14 year old paid so much attention to it. As I was reading I thought, whoops, there is a gay interior decorator in the making. ;D (buff arms and Jack's home like yours) But, no matter how he turns out he has a wonderful mom that he can always be proud of. Does he know of your love for BBM? If so, what does he think of that? Some kids have all the luck when it comes to moms. :'( Oh, one last question, is he your only child? If so, how disappointed would you be if he someday told you he was gay? Which brings up yet another question. Did you show him the movie because you have suspicions he might be gay?
Wonderful mom! :-*

I finally watched the DVD with my 14 year old son yesterday. I think he was a little shocked, and he said he didn't entirely understand it, but he liked it. His only comment during the movie was that Jack had buff arms (2nd tent scene), lol. I can tell he's been thinking about it, because this morning he asked how old Emmylou Harris was in 1975 (re the scene where Jack is driving away and crying), and he also mentioned that he thought Lureen and Jack's house looked just like ours from what he saw in the phone call from Ennis scene (our house is late 70s and not remodeled yet, yuck). Odd attention to detail, but at least I know he was paying attention, lol. He understood the significance of the shirts right away, smart kid It'll be interesting to see what questions/comments he comes up with as time goes by.
I did cut it a bit. I skipped all the sex scenes because he hasn't seen anything like that in movies yet, and frankly, I'm not ready to watch that with my kid (although he did know what they were doing...). That was all. I didn't skip the kissing scenes, which IMO are pretty erotic. I did tell him there were two kissing parts and that he could cover his eyes if he didn't want to watch, but he did watch.
For those of you who are wondering why I would let a young teenager watch BBM, this is a boy who is very devout in his way. He's read the Bible every night for more than two years and he prays every night. We attend a liberal church, and he knows people who are gay (his writing teacher is a lesbian and he likes her a lot), but I know he feels conflicted between his spiritual feelings and what he knows about respecting and having compassion for others. Plus, of course, he's a teenage boy and gay or straight, teenage boys are a conflicted bunch. We've talked about this a lot, but I felt it was important for him to see who Jack and Ennis are, that they're just people stuck in a hard situation. I didn't want to wait until he was older because you just never know how a parental relationship with a teenager is going to go, and right now we are very close, enough so that I still have more influence over him than his peer group does.
Now I've got to go back and see if our house really does look like Lureen's!
camom
Camom,
I think it's wonderful that you shared this movie with your son! I'm a little envious because my oldest is 10 {11 in June} but she is too young to see it. I plan on sharing this with my daughters when they are a little older. They do know about the movie- mostly how it makes me cry-lol. I'm pretty certain my girls think I am a loon too. :) They've seen the screen saver {no intimate scenes on it} and have caught me on the pc crying while watching some of the videos. It has opened a bit of a dialogue- my oldest made reference to two men hugging and she had come in while I was on here and saw the reunion kiss avatar and asked me about it. It gave me the opportunity to explain a little bit {without going into great detail} about how there were all kinds of love/relationships and none were wrong. Sometimes it's so hard to find an age appropriate explanation for things.
I watched it again, and you're right, there are TWO tears. :'(Last night I was watching the heartbreaking scene.

This is such a heartbreaking song...I noticed the tears after a fiew viewings I think...but then again at first I used to be in tears for that part of the movie and never managed to see much !
I have a question, off topic, for the ones who got the DVD in USA. Does the US DVD includes foreign language dubbed versions?

Got mine yesterday. Didn't find any thread to post my reaction in so I'll give it here:
I have never seen Heath Ledger beeing interviewed before and to me he sounded a bit (excuse me here!!) retarded!
remember seeing anyone spit, there was aline OF spit when tya kissed but those of us that have kissed knows that happens unless you kiss with lips tightly shut... I personally found that to add to the realism of the film :)

Wow!! Is the spitting thing something that was maybe not on the cinema version? Cause I indeed would have remembered that!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone confirm? (I am NOT talking about kissing spitting... rather someting else!).
The screen was not big enough? ;D
I saw it in teathers, once I noticed it I just could not believe it
I do not agree with some of the things you said butu are entitled to u'r opinion :) And I don't remember seeing anyone spit,...

Esme, Katie was talking about the first night in the tent when Ennis spit into his hand and then put it on himself.
In Jack's room...
I never noticed before, the tears on Ennis's face when he looks up after putting the horse with the little cowboy figure on it back down on the desk
Ennis spits another time, also...when he is raking Jack over the coals about Mexico, after he says "I mean it!" He turns around and spits..looks like he's spitting the fingernails he was biting when he was telling Jack he couldn't make it in August. There are so many little things in this movie to discuss...I love it! :)I do not agree with some of the things you said butu are entitled to u'r opinion :) And I don't remember seeing anyone spit,...

To be honestly, I grew up in a strick education family, and this is the first time that I've seen this type of movie which touched the gay-theme subject. I don't see gayness but all I see is 2 souls are in deeply love each other. Wish there was someone who love me like they. I was very touched by Ennis' & Jack's love. Their love is soooooo emotional, heartbreaking, sweet, romantic, tragic, and passion. All I see is just 2 human being in love each other depsite whether they're 2 guys or not. If it's a hetero couple then this movie is just another Titanic film. Seeing the love of Ennis/Jack, they reminded me of couples: Romeo/Juliet and Jack/Rose(Titanic).
I always love happy ending but this movie won't have it. By the time the last scene ended and the credits rolling; still I was staring into the TV black screen. I must admitted the movie was excellent because of the good acting by Heath & Jake, great directing by Ang Lee, and wonderful story and screen-play by Larry&Diana and Annie. Thanks too all of them for creating such a touchy movie like Brokeback Mountain.
And about the gay-theme in the movie. what I'm seeing that they deeply love each other just like any other hetero couples, like us. Why do we stop them? Worse, even kill them? It's no one else business. They didn't harm staright people. All they're doing is what we doing; loving another living soul, loving another human being.
Looking thru the history of movies. Back then, there are movies that addressed the slave African people wanted equal rights. I was like why do we racist to African people? I know I'm not. They're just people, like human who have 2 eyes, 2 hands, 2 feet, and 1 heart right? I've never acted any racist toward anyone in my life, ever. I'm a liberal and open-minded person. I would love be friended to any people whether they're: Jews, Africans, Asians, Homosexuals, or Disabilty people. I don't judge by the cover of the book, that theory I used in people also. What I judge is the good moral character, virtue. As long as they are a good person/character then I would be friended with them.
