I do like the idea of synchronised DVD watching - but I'm British, so the time zone is different. How many hours back is America? Eight? I always forget.

Depends where you are in the US. there are 4 time-zones, Pacific ( 8 hours behind) Mountain ( 7), Central (6) and Eastern Standard( 5) - NYC and Washington are on EST.

It's a hysterical system - you can drive along a line dividing two zones and discover that some people on one side have opted for one zone and others nearby places haven't. We went through places where all the banks were closed than a mile or so further on they were open. All the TV progs start at eg 7/8 pm and if you're crafty you can eat a meal one side then go to the other and have another immedicately after -w e did this with breakfast.

We should have this in the UK - we used to, of courrse, in a way till Railway Time came in and we standardized  on GMT.

You are on GMT (British winter time) use the link below to compare where your viewing partners are in time in relation to yourself.

My impression is that for most people, the weekend is the best time to try this. For me, not so much. But I would certainly try to work around any schedule you came up with. I will keep an eye on the thread to see how it comes together. :)

We should do a synchronized viewing when the collector's edition comes out in January.

I had a BBM watching date with WelshWitch last weekend. Iis great to know you are not alone and that someone else is (give or take a few seconds) watching with you.

Ah...I would say "so true", but I've never viewed BBM at the same time as someone else, so I can't. I'm sure it is nice, though.  :)

And although synchronised BBM watching is quite something, it is really something else to be watching BBM and talking on MSN to a friend, who is at the same time watching Pirates of the Caribbean, and both of us are periodically drooling over our respective Jacks, arguing over Pirate hats or Cowboy hats, and having exchanges of this ilk:

"Oh no, Ennis is turning him away.  Noooo...don't cry, Jack!" (Me)

"Ahh, poor Twisty McBrokegay.  Actually, I think Twisty McGayback sounds better." (My friend's response)

And:

"Oh God, Jack is doing his puppy-dog eyes.  I just want to step in and hug him!" (My friend)

"Pfft. Why? He hasn't gone through any emotional turmoil or anything; he just runs around falling over and sword-fighting with people." (Me)

"Well why should I be sorry for *your* Jack, then?"

"Because he is painfully in love with someone who can't pluck up the courage to be with him when he knows that's all they both want, so he has to live a lie and a sham marriage, when all the while his true love is out there without him, and the one time he thinks they can have a life together, he is rejected, and cries in his pickup, and completely loses hope."

"Hmph. Whatever. Jack Sparrow gets eaten by a sea monster."

~) Severely OT, I know, but I just felt like sharing that. Apparently BBM didn't affect her on quite the same level as it did me...plus she has a raging lust for Johnny Depp.  :P

Great Idea!! I'm for that since, I have to return the one I've been borrowing from a coworker. I didn't want to buy one knowing that I could get the Directors cut.

We should set something up sometime in the Christmas holidays, unless there are kids monopolising the computer/DVD player, of course.

Enjoy your BBM sync-view! In my experience its great if you phone each-other before and after (or use Skype /yahoo messenger etc). Its so much better than watching alone. Also its nice to watch with an aim - such as just watching Ennis whenever he is on screen - then the next time only Jack.

Best wishes, JFT

Hello DMT,

That would be great. The only thing is the time zone problem - what time zone are you in?

Yes I'm in the same time zone as New York. GMT +1 will put you in Audrey's time zone. When we sync up it's 3:00 P.M. my time, and 9:00 P.M. her time, so you can join us the next time.

That would be great. I work odd shift patterns, but generally 9 PM is the best time for me if I have a run of day shifts or days off.

Please let me know when you both plan the next one.

Audrey, where do you live? We share the same time zone!

Either of you do webcam?

This must be not convenient for the Brokies accross the pond but... Some of us will be attending the screening of Brokeback Mountain in Bay City (Michigan) next February 25 at 7pm local time (Eastern Time in North America).  If you want to synchronize with us this is the schedule according to your time zone:

Pacific:  4pm
Mountain: 5pm
Central:  6pm
UK: 12am (Monday the 26)
Western Europe: 1am (Monday the 26)
Central Europe: 2am (Monday the 26)
Taiwan:  8am (Monday the 26)
Australia (Sydney) 11am (Monday the 26)

This is the link to the Bay City Gathering:
