Thomas keeps getting the following message:

Your account has exceeded its CPU quota

When I log on at the first screen it tells me I have the wrong password then when I log on again with the same one on the error screen it lets me on fine.Weird.

the CPU quota thing is under investigation.

Jan - what you describe is the following, I assume. It is security issue and you will only see it when you log on first time to this new forum (I hope and it is what I think).

Thanks, Ethan - Thomas and I are in the habit of talking on email, which is how he could contact me - I'll get back to him the same way.

The screen you describe is what I get each time I log on - three times today so far.

Jan - sorry for the inconvenience.

Did you check "Always stay logged in" or select "Log in forever"? Try that next time and see if it makes any difference.

Ohmigod, I am so stupid - I found out how to get rid of cookies once but now I've forgotten how - I am going to have to get my computer man in but he gets that look on his face and tells me things too fast sometimes - he evidently can't see how I can know so little.

Thomas got back on no problems, thank you, Ethan. I'll try the login thing again in the morning when I feel a bit more with it.

you must have the patience of a saint.

jerasjr - do you log out when you leave the forum?
No I don't logout - one time I was able to just go to the forum - other times have to login or it has told me I don't exist or like ww, have to put in the same password (wrong password)and then will let me in.  Have clicked on always stay logged in log in forever at various times but still have to login the next time.  None of it is very serious and just takes a little more time.

When I click on new (https://ennisjack.com/Themes/theme-1/images/english/new.gif) it does not take me to just after my last answer or the last message I saw, but to one later, and I just realised that I missed quite a few posts.

I would like to know about this "delete cookie" thing as well, because I cant remember where I hid the cookies!

From your control pannel/inyernet options

There is a button to delete the cookies

I had a difficult time getting on just now... Kept getting this message:

This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota

Please contact this site's webmaster.

Wait a few minutes and use your browser's "Back" button or click here to try again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are the webmaster, your account may have exceeded for one or more of the following reasons:
Your site has used more than 20% of the cpu.
Your account has too many processes running at the same time.
Your site was consuming too many resources. This happens on occassion to very busy sites that have inefficient scripts running.

Regarding the CPU message -

Our forum is on a sharing server with quota. I took a look at the error logs (not understanding a thing), it seemed that it was the search creating this problem. We have lots of posts and when someone or even more than one is doing search, it overloads the server.

I am now indexing the posts and hopefully this will solve the problem. Fingers crossed. Thank you for your patience

I had the name/password snafu when logging on, but maybe because it's the first time?

I like this typeface -- easier to read.

My issue is, my avatar isn't showing.  Up top, just the little X in the box; on my posts, no avatar or box with X.  I checked my profile and in the space where the picture would be is the box with the X.

Hi Kathy, thank you for your feedback.

I hope the logging in issue is what you said. I really don't know. But the good thing is that you are logged on.

Regarding avatar, you will need to upload it again in your profile setting. I hope you have a backup.

Thank you, Ethan -- and I add my thanks to you for all your work on keeping this together for all of us.

Okay, I will upload avatar again.

Just now, catching up on PM's, I got an Error message "you have exceeded the limit of 20 personal messages per hour."  Well, I only wrote five, not 20.  I had 18 to read, but surely how many you read doesn't have anything to do with a 20-PM per hour limit...whatever that means.  Any info for me about that?  Thank you.

I get the logging on issue as well...enter my password on the main screen and it tells me it's wrong so I have to enter it again and then I get in. Log in forever and always stay logged in don't seem to make a difference....and I still have to log in every time too.

I'll try deleting my cookies in a bit and see if that makes a difference..

Oh - and another (very little, totally insignificant) thing. I love the little flag things that appear after you've put yourself on the map....but is there any chance that I can get a Scotland one instead of a Union Jack?
Title: Re: New Forum Feedback + Problem - Please Report Them Here.
Post by: NoReins on Dec 29, 2006, 04:28 AM
Right...here's some more info.

I deleted my cookies then opened my browser (IE7) again. When I logged in on the main screen this time, it let me in first time. I then closed the browser and opened it again....when I came back here, I wasn't still logged in (despite doing log in forever) and when I tried to log in, I got the "password incorrect" screen again.

Even if I type my password correctly, I have to enter it again.

I will try deleting my cookies and cache and password history, and see what happens.

I am sure there is a way to do it but I don't know how to change the script. Let me see what I can find.

I deleted my cookies then opened my browser (IE7) again.

Please also delete temporary Internet files and History. I tried this on my IE7 and it takes care of it.

Not sure why. This is a setting with this new forum. It may only happen for the first time. Please let me know if it keeps happening.

The reason to set the limit is prevent someone from spamming members using PM.

When I click on new (https://ennisjack.com/Themes/theme-1/images/english/new.gif) it does not take me to just after my last answer or the last message I saw, but to one later, and I just realised that I missed quite a few posts.

This could be due to logging in for the first time because the forum doesn't recognize you yet. It should take you to whatever the post you read last time when you log on from now on.

Before posting, we have a preview option.  By clicking on it we still see the codes before posting and need to scroll up to see the preview which was not the case with the old forum, we got the preview right away.  It's no big deal by the way, I just wanted to report it.

I've done the above, and cleared cookies, history, etc, all to no avail - I still get the error message then it lets me on the second time. It's as if it looks at the first time I put in my pw then looks at the second, realizes they're the same and says to itself,"That's OK then." Stupid machine.

I tried IE6 and IE7 on different computers and they are working fine.
Title: Re: New Forum Feedback + Problem - Please Report Them Here.
Post by: welshwitch on Dec 29, 2006, 05:25 PM
This time I logged in once, it went straight to the error screen, I logged in my pw again and i was straight on - so it's getting better by degrees!

Technology doesn't like me - that's OK, because I don't like it.
Title: Re: New Forum Feedback + Problem - Please Report Them Here.
Post by: welshwitch on Dec 29, 2006, 05:49 PM
So I said a few rude words to it, wnt off and did something else, , deleted all the cookies, history, etc yet again and this time it worked.

No-one had better try telling me that this makes sense - this machine is EVIL.
Title: Re: New Forum Feedback + Problem - Please Report Them Here.
Post by: welshwitch on Dec 29, 2006, 06:01 PM
Now after letting me on once after I logged on no problem, I clicked out and came back in via Favorites and it let me straight on with no log in at all. It's getting late and it's evidently tired and grumpy. I am as happy as I ever am when near technology - as long as I can get on here that's fine.

And this server is massively faster and the whole thing is easier and looks great.

Please don't move back again next weekend, Ethan!

WW, glad it finally works for me. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe the session cookie did it. Don't ask me what it does because I have no clue.

All we can do is trial and error and it does take a lot of patience. For that, I thank you.

I'm not having problems now.  On the old server, even though I put in to log in "Forever" I was constantly having to re-log-in.  But now, I don't have to.  Even after I h ad some crashing earlier this evening, when I went back on-line and to here (from my Favorites) I was still already logged on.  Cool.  But I don't know if once I am logged off, if I'll have to log on twice, like I was having to do yesterday.  But so far so good...

I notice that no-nested-quotes is already taken care of.  Still, I liked better when we were policing that ourselves, because sometimes there are things from both quotes that you need when replying, and you can use text from both without having it be nested quotes.  But no big deal --  I can live with it...

I like the flags, too.  I guess I need to go to the map thing up in the box on top.

Can't think of anything else right now.  Except for earlier this evening when things were goofy.

Hi kathy, thank you for your feedback. Do try to log off and log on again and see if you can still log on forever without logging out.

Yes the no nested quotes were implemented back in October. I agree with you that members should police themselves. We will re-evaluate this.

(1) I do have the logging on forever thing worked out it seems.

(2) I did place my pin on the map last night, I thought...but I just did it again.

(3) I re-loaded my avatar yesterday and it showed up, but this morning it wasn't there again.  It said "attachments upload directory is not writable.  Your avatar cannot be saved."  So I loaded it using a URL, instead of uploading from my files, and seems to be okay.

(4) This morning I couldn't get on -- not just an innocuous "Page Cannot Be Displayed" page, but one with all sorts of nasty fatal error language and such.  But now I'm on.  Yeah.

I got on fine today, but yesterday, I kept getting a notice that there was an error on page 49 which prohibited me from logging on??? Today it worked fine.

Also, now I cannot get many of the pics on the Jake's pics thread.  They are totally blank, or have a little box with a red x.  In the past, I never had this problem.  Is it the new site, or my computer, do you think?   Thanks for your help.

Sticky topics are those the mod team would like members' attention.

These topics are always placed on top of the boards regardless of new posts.

Regular topics will only move to the top of the board with new posts.

I have a question,
In the Member Map ,if I point my mouse on the names of the members ,its shows a hand that suppose to go to a link, usually to a profile of the member , but not here??.. why?

Another question, what is the purpose for the BuddyList in the profile,

I have a question,
In the Member Map ,if I point my mouse on the names of the members ,its shows a hand that suppose to go to a link, usually to a profile of the member , but not here??.. why?

:s) Strange, coz it does take you to the member's profile.

Another question, what is the purpose for the BuddyList in the profile,
how we can put it to use, sort of speak..  lol

When you look at a member's profiles, you can see a new option, add to buddy's list. When you select a friend and click on that link, next time you check the main board of the forum, at the bottom of the page you will see members online - guests - buddies , and usually your buddies will be in bold.

So you can see if your mates are online quicker.  ;) Just a little extra feature.

Maybe it takes you to the profile because you're an admin... The only thing it does for when I click on the member's name from the map list, it makes blink the point on the map where the member is from.

With this new server and FF last version I see and edit
all the stuff as well as IE.
I cannot go to member's profile from the member map
with both of the browsers,though...only blinking the point.

I can access the member's map / profile, being an admin or a new member.
Firefox now lets me edit like IE too. and at least it has less viruses or risks.

hi ethan and froggy,

last night (about 7 p.m. european time, GMT+1) i received constantly a warning, telling me that my UPC was overloaded, too little space, and that i had to call the webmaster.
for more than an hour it wouldn't let me enter the forum any more; so i stopped.
this morning it's working again..

did i do something wrong?

thank you again for your wonderful work here..!

If Ethan and Froggy don't mind, I could answer that one.

Don't worryTizi,

You haven't done anything wrong.   Since we share the server with other webpages and if too much requests are received by the server at the same time, this error message could occur.  I'm just surprised it lasted that long, it usually resolves by itself within 10 minutes.  Sorry for the inconvenience but this is not happening very often.

Thanks, Cham. If I may also add -

I did contact the hosting company and express my concern. I was told they are upgrading the server this week so the service is a little bit shaky - e.g., CPU error message or sometimes the forum is just not responding when they turn the server off for maintenance.

I was also told once the transition is complete - we will get more CPU. I hope it is true.

Titabeille, you browse in a board and click on the upper right side "new topic".
Then you name it filling the subject and you write the relative post.
Take in mind one cannot post a new topic on local channels, for example.

Can someone help me regarding the Jake Pix thread?  Last I looked, we were on about page 830 or so.  Now, apparently, the first however-many pages have been archived, and there are now something like 150 pages.  Well, I have notes of what pages I've looked at and what ones I haven't.  I was up to page 786, and trying to catch up to 830 or so.  So I can't figure out where I left off.  I guess I can figure it out -- I was about 45 pages behind, so I guess I can go back 45 pages from the current 150, and that's where I was.

Although there were also pages I hadn't looked at back around page 600 or so.  Problem is, I can never keep up with how many pages of pix there are, so I'm behind...

I think this happened once before, and I just missed out on some pages.  Oh well...  Not like I don't have thousands of saved pix of Jake already!

I am so jazzed about the new feature, of being able to save all PM's and delete them off our server.  However, I've tried a couple times tonight, clicking on "Save all PM's," and a new window opens, and it says "Done" at the bottom, but the page is totally blank.  I'm using Firefox.  I'll try again.  Anyone else successful or not successful with this saving PM's?

Kathy, thanks for reporting the problem. I am also using Firefox and it works just fine.

When you click "Save all PMs," the browser should load all your PMs on one page. After it loads completely, you can then save it as an html document.

The layout is very similar to the printed version of forum newsletter

The link at the top of the newsletter is incorrect, Cham.  I did that at first also, but it takes us to the Montreal gathering, or some such -- I don't really remember right now what thread the link was to.

But, if you read the part in the newsletter about this new feature, and use the link there, it takes you to the right place.

As Ethan just said, I'll have to try it on another computer.  Weird.  Except that I don't want to save them at work, on that computer; but I can try anyway, see if the problem is my computer, though I wouldn't know why it would be.  Anyway, if it works at my work computer, I can bring my portable hard drive there, as that is where I was going to save the PM's anyway.  Cool.

Thanks for the feedback Kathy , you meant the link in the news box don't you?  The one in the Newsletter is fine.  I modified it for now in the news box and it's working fine.  Since many of us will meet in Brussels soon we might get answers, Fausta reported some issues too.

Sorry, I didn't explain that well.  Yes, I meant the "news box" link, not in the newsletter itself.  Thanks for fixing it.

You just had to say about Brussels, huh?  Shit, that's hard.   :\'(  (Sorry -- I'm lucky to always go to the meets I am able to go to...but I'm bummed I can't go to Brussels.  OT...but I actually even looked up flights the other night (about $1200 US I think it was).  As if.  Okay, bum-rant over.  My glass is half full, not half empty.  :)

Thank you, Froggy, but I've been PM'ing with Ethan about this.  I use firefox also, but the page that opens up (not a separate tab, by the way) is blank.  We think it's because I have too many PM's for the function to work -- I need to clear a lot out before being able to save.  By the way, it works perfectly if I do it individually, but that's way too difficult at this point.  In the future I can do it like that, but not for this first mass saving.

Post by: ksxks on Sep 17, 2008, 11:55 PM
Ethan, I'm posting this instead of PM'ing you -- I'd think this is info that might apply to others also.

I tried "Save all PMs" in my Outbox.  Duh, why didn't I think of that?  I had only tried it with my Inbox.  My Inbox has 100 pages, and the application won't work with that many PMs.  But my Outbox had only 25 pages.  (I had cleared it out considerably on a few occasions in the past when you've encouraged us to do so.)  Anyway, the Save all PMs worked perfectly this time, with my Outbox.  And didn't even take very long.

It saves curiously, though.  I had made a folder, "ennisjack PMs," and made two folders inside that, "Inbox" and "Outbox."  In my Outbox folder, the save function made one folder and one PHP file.  Just to check it before I deleted the PM's here, I opened them.  The folder is all the images from all the PMs.  Then I opened the file in Word Pad.  The headers are a bunch of gobbledygook, but the text of the messages is all there.  What do you say we should open the PHP file in?  What is a PHP file anyway?

Thank you for your patience.  :^^)

Kathy, glad to know at least something works.

When you save the PMs, can you save it as html file or web document? In a web document, all PMs will display including the images.

I guess a folder with all images from the PMs is nice but php file is not user friendly at all.

Darn -- I should have checked that out before I saved.  I guess I saved as html, and no, it's not a user-friendly thing, but that's okay.  (Sometimes I think the crux of the whole matter is to re-think "saving."  I've always been a saver -- save everything, physical and data -- but I've had to give that up the past years, with so much data flying over the web-waves.

Well, I'll save PMs as web doc when I save Inbox.  I've deleted almost a third of the pages, though it's still too large.  Keep hacking away  ^^)

I did some testing using Firefox and IE and save the page as webpage (HTML only).

Firefox will save a webpage and one folder with all the pix. IE will only save a htm document.

70-page probably is the maximum that the saving all feature will work properly.

Okay, cool.  Of course there will never be so many pages in the future, so this is only a one-time hacking-and-saving thing.  70 pages maximum?  Good -- I cut it down from 100 to 75 the other night, but then went to something else.

What are the two choices to save again?  HTML and what?  I'd rather not have the text and pics separately, but still, it isn't that bad this way.

So...thanks.

Hope your trimming down is on track. In the Firefox,

1. select the location where you want the file save
2. name the file
3. in the field of "save as type," choose "web page, HTML only"

Even though all images will be saved in a folder (same name as the file), the web page will still display all images.

I feel the same, T.  I've been procrastinating deleting half my inbox.  I think now I'll wait until after your "live" session next week and find out what you've come up with, before I do.

I hate to keep saying it, but I'm so jealous!!!

smartestsonia,

sorry to hear that you were having problems accessing the site. The site has been on pretty much so I am not really sure what the problem was.

Is it now working fine or do you still have problems?

Thanks for your concern Ethan ^f^
It is working fine now but 2 weeks back it was showing online that the site is not found...It must have been a technical problem from the internet service provider in Dubai..The only thing that surprised me though was that it happened only with this site and every other site was accessible..
Thank God its working fine now..I will let u know if I face any other problems..
Thanks and take care :)

Title: Member Map
Post by: thszntatst on Dec 01, 2008, 02:04 PM
Having just joined my first selection was the Member Map to get a visual on the dispersion of the site's membership. I placed my pin on the map and was surprised to find it didn't stay in that location. Rather, it seems the whole display of pins is dislocated toward the top of the Member Map page where the aggregation of colored dots appear superimposed over the text. I just thought it would be worthwhile to bring this to the attention of the moderator.

Thanks

Seems no one else has posted regarding a problem, so I hope it's not just my computer.  But last night was really difficult -- I could get onto the forum only hit-and-miss, and could mostly read, but not post.  It was okay on and off, but kept happening, and I just gave up (and watched October Sky which was on TV).  I'm on Firefox now -- I used to have this problem and thought IE had a lot to do with it.  Plus my old computer.  My "new" one (not really new, one I got from work) hasn't had this problem.  I could get on other internet sites without the problem, so I wondered if something was up with ennisjack.  It was frustrating -- like "I WANT MY ENNISJACK!!"   ^^)

koolcat, thank you for posting the problem. I am sorry to inform you that our forum hosting server has a limit of 500 emails per hour (to prevent potential email spam). This could cause some email delivery including PM or new post notification once the limit is reached.

Unfortunately, there is no way that I can persuade our hosting server to increase the limit.

I'm not sure I understand loreen, maybe you made the login page of the forum your home page when you launch your browser?

I suggest you go to the control/panel/internet options/ and verify what is the home page, if you want it to be the forum just make sure it is www.ennisjack.com

Dear Ethan and moderators.  ^f^

I've been having problems with the forum for three days now. It takes me ages to open a page, no matter the thread I am. The worst part is when I try to post...God it won't open in several minutes.  :-\\ :-\\ And you don't want to know how much time I need to open a page with pics.... :-\\ :-\\

I don't understand. My laptop is a new one, the internet connexion is ok and I surf the net without any problem. I can open very fast the pages of other forums, like Heath's forum, and I have not problems at Live Journal either. It's only with Ennisjack and it stress the hell out of me, because I spend lot of time here and I want to quote pics and stuff and I can't do it, because it doesn't work for me. It seems that no one has problems but me, so I wonder what I am doing wrong.... :-\\ :-\\

Would you be so nice to help me, please?  ^f^

Tammy, sorry to hear that you are having the problem.

Is it the same with the threads which have no pix at all. Is it the same when using a different computer?

My suspicion is that some photos are big and they slow down the loading.

It happened to me with every thread and page.  :-\\ :-\\ Now it's getting better, but still I have to wait a bit for every page to open. Really weird. I don't know....

Anyway, I hope that it'll keep getting better.

i hope you know what i mean...  ~)

Tammy, please keep us updated.

Tizi - yes, the banner is longer than the usual ones. (it has 1190 pixels as opposed to 900). It could cause some scrolling horizontally. Perhaps I should resize it to 900 pixels in width.

Edit: the banner has been resized to the usual size.

Why it's not possible anymore to send PM's from the profile window?

you can, but true, it's a bit hidden..
you have to scroll down to the bottowm of the profile page, there you see an icon PM (online or offline) and you just click on that  ^f^

Whew..the forum crashed and is at least now back live. Not sure what the problems were.

We were able to reinstall and upgrade the software to the latest version and restore all the data.

There are some features not yet reinstalled - some of which you probably won't even recognize. We will see if there are needs for these features. If not, they won't be reinstalled.

One major component which I didn't finish is the profile layout. The forum may just keep it as it is now and not modifying.

One major change is the forum's URL - it is changed from http://www.ennisjack.com/index.php (http://www.ennisjack.com/index.php) to http://www.ennisjack.com/forum/index.php (http://www.ennisjack.com/forum/index.php)

As you browse through, do report if there is any problem. Thank you for your help and patience during the process.

There was a system glitch that caused threads being lost. Unfortunately, we had to bring back those threads using a backup from November 12.

As a result, we had to sacrifice those posts/threads made after November 12. We are very sorry to have this happened and apologize for any inconvenience or problem this may cause.

The forum should function normally now. Please report any problem to the mods or post it here. Thank you for your patience and help.

Hello!  :)

I have some problems with the forum and the access to the Jake or Heath threads. If I remember correctly, Keren had the same problem a few weeks ago. tpe said he has problems also.

I hope it's not too serious...

Hi  :h)

I have the same problem. When I want to open "local chanels" - "@Ennisjack.com" - "member connection" - "Fun & Games" - Life & Leisure" and so on..., I get a 404 Not Found page with this message:

Not Found
The requested URL /4-12/ennisjack/public_html/66.0.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have to open the last message to go to the thread I want.
And another problem when I posted my latest posts, I got the Not Found page again.   :s)

Thanks to the Forum Doctor for his help  ::)

Forum Update - January 29, 2017

The forum has experienced some errors as reported by many. It appeared that the forum software version was outdated and incompatible with hosting server. Therefore, I have updated the software and it seems to the errors have gone. If you still experience any error or issue, please report it there.

As a result of upgrade, many features and appearance of the forum have changed. It will take some time to restore as much as I can. For now, the forum should be functioning without errors.

Thanks for your patience!!

If you want to add a country flag to your profile, you will need to go to "profile" tab and select "forum profile." You will see a field to select your country.

Thanks Ethan for all your help in fixing the forum.  I can get on the forum at home with no problem, but cant access it all on my computer at work.  Which is very strange. I've tried every day and it just doesn't connect.   :s)  I have no idea why I've never had problems before the forum stopped working.  If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it!  :)

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask, but I tried to change my avatar and I don't seem to be able to do it. My old one vanished, but the new one (added from a URL) does not show up and the setting in my profile automatically goes back to "No avatar". Am I doing it wrong or is adding my own avatar impossible?

Hi Pimpernel,

You can change your avatar in your profile. Go to "Profile" on the top menu and select "forum profile." You have options to choose one from gallery, specify URL for an avatar or upload your own avatar.

Hope this helps and let us know if you still have problems.

Hi, thanks for your explanation but I'm already doing all of that, but when I specify the URL the avatar doesn't show up.

It's a new problem, I changed avatars before (admittedly, the last time was over a year ago...) but it doesn't seem to work now.
