is it a foregone conclusion that the boys only had anal sex.i havnt been able to find anything on this.nothing in the short story i know.anybody else wonder about this.thanks gar d

Well,you haven't found any reference to the kind of practices the boys had during their love making in the s.s. because,although this is rather rough in this descriptions,this is not the most important point,neither of the novel nor of the movie.For me,they are two rather different subjects:on one hand,describe,f.e.,the motel room after their sexual reunion without any concession to romanticism;on the other hand,make a complete and porn description of everything they had done in this room...
I think this wasn't Annie's intention when she wrote it,the same than wasn't Ang when he filmed the movie; as a matter of fact,he said once that if he had shown more "flesh",some persons had became very happy ( :d) (^) ) but-aside from the fact that he had abused his actors-this would have weakened the first and main point and message the work had.However,and imagining a little beyond this,I have never thought in their sexual relationships as very "varied",or with several fantasies;but very direct,according to their circumstances and social and cultural environment.For me,fanfics have given much more and different sexual practices than the ones they really could have had... ::)

I'd like to think they tried different things. And Jack, being the more worldly of the two and sexually experience, would have probably led the way on some experimenting. I'm sure oral sex was part of their sexcapades :D

I think the boys' sexual practices isn't the matter, or at least not important. They would make everything they want. As Annie says "nothing he'd done before but no instruction manual needed ". Two 19 year old guys in love and into paradise (BBM), "sheep be damned" Well, it's easy to imagine he would do what they want.
As for Jack's supossed previous sexual experience, IMO, is the same as that Ennis = 0. Nothing in SS and nothing in the film. In the beginning of the film we see Jack to make advances Ennis, but we forget that was Ennis the first that saw Jack , when he goes out of his truck, and then Ennis avoid looking at him. Lee simply shows us the different ways of being of both

Yes,I tend to agree with you,WcI in that it's not the most important of our boys tragic story;that's for this reason that I quoted Ang's words about the more or less explicitness of their sexual living...After that,the reader's imagination can run free,as it has been in the many,many fanfics that have been written about them.As you say,is easy to suppose how could two 19 years old boys behave,being in love and alone on the mountain with a lot of "crazy" hormones inside them ¡.
However,I'd like to talk a little about Jack's previous experience; it's true that nothing is concreted neither in S.S. nor in the movie...But I think that the fact that Jack takes the initiative in his sexual advances can suggest he's not only more open and,maybe,bolder,but that he has done it before.As a matter of fact,Ang also said that he filmed the scene when Ennis is washing himself while Jack is trying to take a glance at him to show precisely he had a previous experience.That Ennis doesn't know what he has happenned to him,but Jack knows how to manage his tendencies because he knows what are them and how to put them into practice.So,for me,the fact that Ennis is the first in seeing Jack is a simple matter of being in a place or not; and if he avoids looking at him is because he's shier,even if surely he feels a little attracted for this gorgeous cowboy.
