There were so many situations in the movie when you would just like to scream ...
why doesnt he/they just say it ?
why doest he/they just go back ?
had it not been this it would have been so sweet !! :_(
what if ..........
(in a broader sense although may be the movie/story wud have lost its charm and magic if it had not been the way it is .. still !)
your favourite "what if " moments , your most memorable "lost oppotunity " moments when you wish that irrational romanticism should take over !! ::)
my choice is the conforntation scene , would be great if we could share each others views.

My favourite in that sense :_( is the farewell scene after their return from Brokeback. When Jack asks if Ennis is going to do this again next summer, and you can literally FEEL and see this hope in Jacks eyes ..... What if Ennis wouldn' t have answered "Maybe not", speaking about him and Alma getting married in November, just to break down crying a bit later :-\\ ... What if Ennis had made up his mind in that very moment they were about to leave into different directions and lives ...

I agree with BBS; IMO,the greatest "What if...?" is in their return from the mountain. But I'd add also another former moment that could be decisive for their future;when they fought up to the mountain. If Jack only had joked to relief their tension but, almost immediately, they had talked instead to fight down the mountain's slope, maybe something had been arranged,or at least, known between the both of them.Unluckily, our boys were lacked of a good communication indeed...

My regular "why doesn't he say something" moment comes when they are away in the mountains on what turns out to be their last meeting. It is night and they are both sitting by the campfire. Jack quietly says to Ennis:
Tell you what...truth is, sometimes I miss you so bad I can hardly stand it..."
As Jack's words hang in the air, I usually yell at the screen -"Ennis - say SOMETHING". But of course he doesn't.

I quote this O0, the only moment in the movie where I have nothing to say but "AT LAST !" is when they hug and kiss each other in the reunion scene ;)
