Title: A little thing I found relating to Ennis
Post by: kitty on Sep 22, 2011, 04:41 PM
Ennis is described as having calloused hands from all his hard ranch work, right?

Look what I found, look at those definitions of the word...that can't be a complete coincidence, can it? :s)

Kitty, do you remember where,in the short story Ennis is described as having "calloused hands"? I thought it might be in the initial description we get of the two of them but I couldn't find it there. Is it somewhere else in the short story?

I dunno if it's in the short story...but in just about every fanfic I've read (and I've read a lot) he's described as having calloused hands. And in the movie...in the later scenes you can see the marks on his hands... :-\\

Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno ;D But you gotta admit it's interesting compared to the other definitions of callous...

FYI -

In the SS Ennis is described thus in Aguirre's trailer:

"You, he said to Ennis, taking in the ragged hair, the big nicked hands, the jeans torn, button gaping shirt . . . "

'Course in the movie they clean 'em up a bit - no missin' buttons or torn jeans, but still hot as hell.

For purposes of discussion here's a close up of Ennis's, - ahem, hands. Looks big enough to me.
Not such a "little thing" huh?

Impressive! I've been told that big hands mean a big etc. etc. but have no idea whether this is true. I'd like to believe it though, especially as far as Ennis is concerned.
