I would consider Jack as an ENFP (aka campaigner personality type) and Ennis possibly a ISFJ which is the defender personality type. Ennis is a bit harder due to him being very reserved and emotionally closed off. I believe Ennis is quite damaged and not as emotionally resilient as Jack. Nothing matches perfectly of course, but assigning them personality traits allows you to better understand how they might think and feel, and the potential for what they could be under different circumstances.

Interesting post about Meyers-Briggs personality type for Ennis and Jack. I think you've described their personalities perfectly. I inserted an image for a reference.

Very interesting. I have never seen this classification before. I try to find what type I am. And although I'm not sure I understand all the English words, I believe I am ISFJ ::)

If you’re interested you can take a short test on this website to help you figure it out https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test. I’m an INFJ and it’s like it’s describing me personally

Hi and welcome, YouBet! ^f^ I have to think a bit more on which I think they each fall under though I do agree with your assessment.
I'm a fellow INFJ :)

Hey there fellow INFJ, we are pretty rare! I’m interested in hearing other’s opinions on what the characters are.

I think ENFP fits Jack pretty well but I feel like Ennis was more of an ISTJ than ISFJ.
I think I'm closest to an ISFJ (maybe with a hint of ISFP or INFP - take out the organized and INFJ fits, too). LJN would probably know better. ;D What do you think?

That’s what I initially picked actually, and it may be right. But I changed it after reading the full description of both personalities. I do believe Ennis does have a sensitivity to others, even though he comes off pretty hard. Him choosing soup over beans, deciding the break the rules and shoot the elk, and switching job roles could all be read as him considering Jack’s needs and putting them before his own. Of course he also doesn’t seem to consider Alma and definitely winds up hurting Jack several times, but I think this is more because of his inflexible thinking not because he doesn’t care. I think his fears make him act in ways that may not necessarily reflect his true nature.

I like that interpretation. :)
