Title: Another bookend
Post by: jerasjr on Feb 25, 2006, 10:58 PM
Another way that brought out the significance of the first summer between Jack And Ennis - and also Ennis' importance to Jack -  was that Ennis was seen in a mirror when they meet and then when they part.  It brackets that time so effectively.

I thought about that too.  I think I started a mirrors, windows and other props thread not too long ago.  I find it amazing what Ang Lee did with the script and I was wondering if the mirrors were symbolic of how Jack really saw Ennis.

Wonderful observation, jerasjr.  The movie is indeed full of such 'mirror' images.  One cited earlier is the opening scne with the truck carrying the young Ennis, and the much later image showing Ennis driving home from the visit to Jack's parents.
