Title: The most impressing moment in Oscar - with a video clip
Post by: bokano on Mar 06, 2006, 01:19 AM
I want to share the most beautiful scene in Oscar.

It is when the violinist playing "suprising show" (sorry I forgot his name. He must be very famous I guess). The last song is BBM. Finally the scenes of five movies quickly come after one another.

Finally, the music ends. The screen stopped as the shot of the "sexless hug between Ennis and jack" This scence lasts for seconds, and I really wanna cry when I see that.

Anyone thinks the same?

Wow thank you very much for that!!

I found "Wings" to be even MORE heartbreaking when played on strings rather than guitar...I was shocked.  And I would LOVE them to release a version of this song with strings.

Thank you for the file.

I have to admit, I didn't really care for this version.  Theres something about the simplicity of the guitar, the loneliness of the sound, the sadness that resonates, that makes me prefer Santaolallas version much more.  Itzahk Perlmans version was pretty, but somehow lacked the emotion of the original.

Here's another screen cap of the performance.

I feel the same way. Itzak Perlman is a musical genius, but the BBM score sounds better on a guitar.  You're right Kindred, the sound from Gustavo's guitar is lonliness, sadness and it's a little eery.   And maybe part of it is that we equate a guitar with the West and its music and not a violin.

Good to hear the Perlman piece again though, thanks.

I agree.  The Perlman's version was beautiful, but Santaolalla's is HAUNTING.   :'(

Here I go again  :'( :'( :'(

When Gustavo got his Oscar, believe me, it was Niagara Falls here, I was so much crying I couldn't listen to his speech.

What did he said?  I should have taped the show... moron me  :P

My best time of the evening BTW

He so deserved it Cham.  And since John Williams was nominated for two films, he cancelled himself out.

John Williams has been the "King" for a long time and his scores are beautiful.  But it's time for other composers to have opportunities for awards.

Here is the full segment with Gustavos acceptance at the end.  I was extremely happy for him as well.  This is the first time I bought a musical soundtrack for the score.  Hauntingly beautiful...
