Title: Protest the Oscar decision
Post by: dcampbell01 on Mar 06, 2006, 07:06 AM
Go see the movie AGAIN! Let a jump in the number of people seeing the movie send an immediate message to America.  We just got slapped in the face and we gotta do something NOW to show we're mad as hell and we ain't gonna take it anymore.

Brokeback Mountain is about the falsity of stereotypes.  Two examples of the American icon -thoroughly masculine cowboys - have a passionate love affair in the midst a stunning natural beauty that masks a toxic wasteland of hate.  Two gay men who were rural, blue collar, crude are the polar opposites of Will and Grace stereotypes.  Brokeback Mountain is the gay movie that is embraced in those red states where it was “supposed” to have disappeared without a trace. And, finally, Hollywood, the supposed capital of “Blue” America, showed itself to be the opposite of its stereotype.  The “true Blue” members of the Academy voted like red-neck, good ole boys. Last night exemplified the hate that dare not speak it name is not just working in the red states.  They didn’t vote for “Crash” because of its message of racial intolerance.  They’re hiding their real, hateful actions behind a veneer of respectability.  They’re in their own closet of hypocrisy and homophobia.  Brokeback Mountain shows us the destructiveness of closets and the insidious damage homophobia causes.  Brokeback Mountain is and will be forever, a great story and a great film.

We planned to go see the film again anyway, just because we love it, not necessarily to send a message to the Academy, but point well taken!!

IMHO, if Heath was going to lose, the film was going to lose.

The movie rests on his broken back

Best picture without heath as best actor would be some sort of pandering.  Which I would have totally embraced, but it would be an empty victory.  It's his performace that makes the movie the best picture of the year.

But CRASH?  A decent flick, but I got 10-15 movies this year that could easily best it.

Clooney gave the speech of the night

I'm wearing a black armband in silent protest, though in reality I've been not too silent about it.  As I have time, I'll add "BBM"[/i] and/or other embellishments to the armband.  I've had several people at work ask about it... "Was there a death in the family?" and many have just noticed it and not said anything.

If you really want to send a message, stop going to studio produced movies. Hit them where it will really hurt, in their wallets.

Good excuse to see BBM again however.

Hi,

1. Don't you think the votes have been rigged? I mean, the "acad." boss took the decision to drop the hot potato and just wrote the decision in the envelope.
2. In a theater nearby, in noticed this past Saturday: when one watches the film one sees that it is sistematically crossed by 3 white horizontal bands. The bands look like wide scratches on the film and appear only when E. and J. are together. When they are with their wifes and children, there are no such bands. Is Focus Features aware what sabotage is going on with their film?

bbmfan13 - Welcome to our forum.

I have never thought about it, I would hope that the film is just a little poor from overshowing and not from being sabotaged, but at this stage I wouldn't put anything past them.

Hi, I wish I could photograph the way the movie is shown in the cinema here for you all to see.

There were clearly three white bands, in the middle on the screen and quite long to the lateral, somehow scratched into the photogrammes, by a machine - I imagine, such that one can see them continuously when J & E are on the screen. (But not when they aren't.)

If one second of projection takes 90 feet of film, only a machine could have marked each photogram to obtain a visible effect for the eye.

No one protested at the projection, although it was obviously a crossing done intentional, systematic, for the length of the entire movie: White bands, crossing only the "unwanted". No, it's no Florida joke, it's for real.

Well I'd watch the movie, and go get the theater manager and drag their sorry butt in their to see what someone had done. That's ridiculous. Not to mention destruction of property. My ultimate reward is that it is in every sense of the words and depth of meaning....BAD KARMA...you pay for that!
