I just called Focus Features.... 818 777 7373 to ask if they are adding scenes or extra material, after being transferred four times I talked to some VP's admin, and she said until it advertised they cannot say anything....I thought if we all called them and asked for more...maybe eventually (if it doesnt happen on the first DVD) we might get added scenes and behind the scenes stuff. It makes them more money cause like LOTR who put out the first film release then several months later came out with the "Extended play DVD", most people have to buy it twice!!!
-
I wouldn't buy it twice. I would buy it the first time and be all uppity about missing out on extra stuff. I hope they have plenty of bonus features on this.

once twice thrice...
Will buy it as a zone 1 dvd, cause that will be out first, then as a zone 2 so my parents can watch it with subs, and if there is a EE or DC then I wil get that too :)

I posted this on another thread.... Looks like no deleted scenes :(

Maybe not on the first release, but I'm hoping they'll release a Director's Cut or Extended Edition later on with lots of extras & deleted scenes.
Normally, I hate it when studios release a bare-bones DVD first, and then a deluxe version later, so I usually just wait for the Extended Edition; but with BBM, I'll buy both just to support the movie. Hell, I'll probably buy extra copies as gifts.
-
I'd buy both. My husband actually bought the LOTR dvds before LOTR mania hit me {and boy was he sorry when it did-lol}. He wasn't too thrilled when I bought the EE versions of it. If it's a movie I truly love I don't mind getting both- one for when I am in the mood for the "original" and the other for when I want more. I don't care how BBM comes out- I just want it out asap.
-
Well, if they do have a extended one later on, I'll just have to hope that I have a good paying job by then. I can't afford to buy the same movie twice, and I refuse to wait to own it.
-
Since my b-day isn't too far off from the release date, someone better cough it up as an EARLY PRESENT! hehehehe
Then of course, I will be the extended version.

Rad video is offering it for 24.97. Here's the list of "extras" on the DVD:
Here's the list of "extras" on the DVD:
Features: Documentaries: "On Being a Cowboy: Directing from the Heart: Ang Lee"
"From Script to Screen: Interviews with Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana"
"Sharing the Story: The Making of Brokeback Mountain"
(I'm not sure, but I think the last one, "The Making Of Brokeback Mountain, " might be the LOGO special that aired last December.)
What?!? No "deleted" scenes? >:( :o ??? >:(
-
I'M SURE THEY'LL BE DELETED SCENES IN THE DVD, SPECIALLY THE ONES THAT DIDN'T APPEAR IN THE FILM BUT INSTEAD APPEARED IN THE TV ADS... SO, LETS JUST WAIT!
;)
-
Um, the special sounds great, and I can't wait till April 4th (gotta go see it again in the theaters before it leaves!), but...
What about the deleted scenes? I heard on another thread somewhere that there is 40 minutes worth of deleted scenes. So I'm hoping this one coming out on the 4th includes those scenes, because I don't have the money to buy two version (PLUS, my family is against BBM, so they sure won't buy me an extended version if there is one; I'll have to be sneaky about buying the April 4th version, as it is).
Can't wait till the DVD! :D Those specials sound AWESOME! The MAKING OF! How cool is that?!?!?! ;D

(PLUS, my family is against BBM, so they sure won't buy me an extended version if there is one; I'll have to be sneaky about buying the April 4th version, as it is).
That's the same reason that i can't buy a second version. I'm going to have to kind of hide the one copy from them. I don't want to have to hide a second.

But I don't want to MISS out on the second version, either! My heart is tugging me one way and my sense of safety says "Don't buy a second version." But I don't know if I can stand not having those deleted scenes and all! Even if the April 4th version has everything BUT the deleted scenes, I think I'd still have to buy a 2nd version...
I think I'll have to save up my $$ and TRY my best to sneakily buy both versions... :-\ Wish me luck! :'(

You're right. Why try to fool ourselves? You and I both know that we're going to be sneaky and get both.

I've just been on the BBM film website, and after it lists all the extras we know about it, it says ....."and much more" (or something similar). Which leads you to think there will be extra extras on it....why can't they just tell us and put us out of our misery!
Also, I know there's general consensus that the "making of /behind the scenes" documentary on the DVD is the LOGO special that's been around on you tube for a while, but if you go to Amazon, they have a clip on the BBM DVD page of Ang, Heath and Jake all talking about the making of the film, and it's different to the LOGO one, so does that mean this is an EXTRA EXTRA we don't know about?
It's very confusing and frustrating.....I'm counting the days until the DVD comes out, and it would just be nice to know if there'll be lots of goodies for us to enjoy.

I looked around and so far it looks like there is only 4 special features....

This is Ang Lee's final cut. I would be very surprised of any cut scene. It's just my opinion BTW.

if theres ever an extended or directors cut or summat...or a special 2 disc version..

Look, a scene with Ennis and Jack is a scene with Ennis and Jack. If I buy extra, I buy extra, no skin off my nose. With LOTR, I knew better stuff was coming, and I could wait, but with BBM, I WANT HIGH FIRST DAY SALES so I'll buy the DVD widescreen April 4. If more (excuse me, WHEN more) is released on a "collector's edition" (*I PRAY that Criterion Collection gets this one in their wonderful little hands!) then I will absolutely buy that too. Just one more minute with Jack and Ennis! HEAVEN!

Don't tell! Well, maybe... no! I'm torn. I want to know, but I don't.

I am looking forward to owning the movie just as it ran in theaters. Seeing the movie that first time was a very special moment and I want to always have that version. . . . but when an extended version comes out I want that for the additional footage.
If both were to appear in stores side by side I would buy them both at once! LOL

It would be cool if it was like my copy of Stargate. It came with two discs, one was the theatrical cut and one was the director's cut. They both had different bonus features on them.

I think there will be more verisons in the future. Can't get everything all in once. :D
Focus Features -- are you listening?

I sincerely hope that another DVD is in the works which includes deleted scenes - and wouldn't it be great if it was one of those DVDs that have an alternate ending??? Ha ha

BBM is an Art film and I don't think Ang Lee would permit to have a special release including deleted scenes. This is the final and only cut.
This was my 2 cents

I have to agree, the film the way it is works perfectly, and Ang Lee is not a director who films a lot of unnecessary footage only to chop it up in editing. Even if he truncated certain scenes, the pacing works so perfectly that I can't see him messing with the original film version.
Best we can hope for might be a selection of scenes that may show a little extra at the start and end of the scene. And there are a few shots that you see in the trailers that didn't make it into the film at all (remember that shot of Jack standing shirtless on top of a log, rubbing his neck?). Maybe those can be included.
Reading the screenplay, there really doesn't appear to have been any scenes cut, just shot a little differently than they were written, or a line or two left out or changed slightly.
Would really love to have a couple of commentary tracks, though, with Ang and Heath and Jake, at the very least. Plus, they could do a great documentary on the impact the film has had over it's original release, from all the awards it's won to all the dialogue it's started around the world.
A special edition must be coming our way. I'm hoping it will be released in time for Christmas. Santa, be good to us, please! :)
My 5 cents worth!!
