A couple other sites are advocating this idea and it is a good one. Be sure to check with your library first as some will not accept them.

That is a wonderful idea. Too bad my library is so homophobic they took the word homosexual out of the dictionary!
But there is always the San Diego City Library. They are a bit more progressive.

Very good idea! I have previously donated books to our local library, and I have seen that they have been borrowed a lot so that's a good idea. I would definetly donate a BBM dvd if I hade more money than a student have..

My best friend who loves BBM just as much as me, WORKS at a Library!

Seriously though, I think it'd be amazing for libraries to have BBM, its such a masterpiece! Maybe my friend can pull some strings ;)

I'm trying to think if my library would accept it. I've mentioned before that they are the Barbara Bush Library, but they do have a copy of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

I love where I live.. haha!
I live in a small city of about 80,000 people, so you'd assume its very "oh no gay people!" but its not! BBM stayed at our local cinema for over 4 months which is a long time for a movie where I am...
Now, about the Library.. I assumed like.. Library.. they'd think it was bad or wrong right?
well I went to the Library to do reasearch for school and I searched the library for "Brokeback Mountain" because I wanted to find the Annie Proulx Short Story and re-read it.. so I typed that and the short story came up, but there were other options too:
1. CLOSE RANGE CHECKED IN (location in library)
2. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: DVD (WIDESCREEN) ON ORDER COMING SOON
3. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN: DVD (FULLSCREEN) ON ORDER COMING SOON
YAY! I jumped for joy! My Library ordered 2 copied of BBM!! Go small town Canada! YEEEEHAAWW!! ;D

EXCELLENT IDEA! Please encourage ALL you know to donate to libraries. This is the best way to get this wonderful film out to the masses.
I don't generally keep DVDs. I don't generally watch them over and over. So, I'm haviing a hard time releasing these boys from my tight clammy hands, BUT I will, eventually. I will proudly donate my copy to Los Angeles Public Library.
All on this site: PLEASE DONATE TO YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES!!!

I work at a library and we already have many requests for this DVD. We buy most DVDs with good reviews and all award winners.
BBM certainly qualifies.
Remember, Librarians are very big on intellectual freedom....

Surely this can be done in Europe too?
I never thought of donating a DVD to my library..then again..where I live I am surrounded by 5 libraries...which one gets my DVD?
-
I've worked in the public library system in Louisiana for 21 years. My library will accept donations of any kind. Someone donated a copy of Madonna's "SEX" years back. When we get something that someone might be offended to see in the library, we merely keep it upstairs where the offices are...not accessable to the general public. However, it is listed in our online card catolog, that way people will know it is available. All they have to do is ask for it. I am going to donate a copy of Brokeback Mountain. I wish I could afford to donate one for each of our seven branches, but there's no way I could do that. :( Donna

The Barbara Bush Library! I think they deserve donations from all of us. A Home at the End of the World? Angels in America? Bound, Better than Chocolate, The Laramie Project, The Sum of Us, Latter Days, Prick Up Your Ears, just for starters. Laura Bush is a librarian! She would appreciate it :) I would gladly donate a DVD.
