I just saw a commercial for advertising the new 2-disc Director's Cut Set for CRASH. It goes on sale Tuesday April 4. It can't be coincidence. The film couldn't beat BBM at the box office or in overall popularity. Are they desperate for some popularity that wasn't gained by their Oscar
win award?
Has anyone else seen this ad? Please comment.

Its alright though, theres only about millions of people who have never even heard of Crash, EVER.
So BBM will out-sell it in DVDs no doubt in my mind.
Those those.. ***************************** how dare they do that. Well whatever, your lucky if 2 people buy that DVD. No one even rents it, it got pulled from the "new releases" section where I rent videos, because no one rents it.. so we'll so who buys this >:(!

Trash!!!
This movie, is simply trash and did not deserve the Oscar it got. Brokeback Mountain clearly DESERVED best picture, and every other nominee was an actual better picture than this. I saw this movie and it was a "good" movie, but was not the BEST PICTURE. Not Best Picture Material at all, it has a good message but the way its told, with the THOUSANDS of characters is confusing and makes no sense. Oh and why is it being released the same day as Brokeback Mountain DVD? Thats hilarious, no one will buy this DVD you realize, no one has even heard this movie existed until its nomination.. so good luck selling DVDs. Meanwhile the true Best Picture as its named by the hundreds of more credible awards like the Golden Globes, BAFTA's etc... will sell millions and Crash, will be forgotten. Three cheers for Trash! I mean Crash!
-
Dude!! You are HARD CORE!!
I'm impressed!!!
-
LOL! I don't think we have anything to worry about. Give it another year or two at the most, and Trash will be nothing more than a faded memory, discussed only by a few art film aficionados. BBM, on the other hand, has already changed our language and our culture. Even politicians are quoting BBM in their speeches. Now that the DVD is about to be released in the U.S., sales will soar. The box office totals from overseas have already surpassed domestic totals, and it hasn't even been released in all countries yet. After that, we'll have overseas DVD sales. BBM has barely gotten started, and it's going to leave Trash in the dust. Wait and see! ;D
-
No argument there!

Bravo Italian_dude! Can't believe that they are releasing Crash once again! Are they crazy or what?? Here in India, Crash has been released simultanously with Brokeback Mountain from March 10. "Trash"....excuse me "Crash" has been hyped as the Oscar winner for Best Picture..But the people have given their verdict. Crash has literally been trashed...Its not that Brokeback got an overwhelming respose ( remember India is a very conservative country), but it's FAR better than Crash..
EVERY newspaper and EVERY newschannel, even the state run TV, have given rave reviews for Brokeback. But most did not even mention Crash....
To be honest, I DID like Crash..I had watched it on DVD even before I had watched Brokeback Mountain. But it is *NO* match for Brokeback...there is simply no comparison. I think, I'll follow suit and write a review of the Director's Cut DVD on Amazon! Just can't resist the temptation!

LOL! now we're gonna bombared Amazon.com with TRASH reviews HAHA!! they'll all be like! Where are these BBM lovers coming from!? HAHA!! Ennisjack.com!!

Hi, gang! I'm thrilled to see that 5 months after BBM's debut, our passion for it remains as strong as ever. Having said that, though, I'm gonna get up on my soapbox and risk being a wet blanket. [Full disclosure first: I've seen "Crash" only once and BBM seven times.] While I agree absolutely that "Crash" isn't even close to being in BBM's league, the wholesale trashing of "Crash" still makes me pretty uncomfortable. The two films do share one major characteristic: they both seek to take an unflinching look at prejudice and its ugly results. IMO, though, when a filmmaker is determined to do more than simply entertain--i.e., reach (perhaps change) hearts and minds--s/he is obligated to spare no effort or expense to make the best film possible: obtain the best script; hire the most empathetic director; cast the finest actors, etc., etc. What bugs me the most about "Crash" is how infrequently even an attempt was made to meet high standards such as these. I found most of the script emotionally manipulative (or even downright maudlin) and hard to believe because of the plot detail-torturing required to interweave the various characters' stories. But even admidst this mess, there are some gems. I found the storyline of the Latino father and his 5-year-old daughter deeply moving and there was fine acting from much of the cast (I'd single out Terrence Howard, Thandie Newton, Michael Peña, and Ryan Phillippe). Considering the quality of the cast, I just wish they'd been given better material to work with. The critical contrast of "Brokeback Mountain" is that it aimed for the highest standards in every aspect of the film, and (I believe) achieved them across the board. It's the kind of film that transcends filmmaking and does succeed in reaching hearts and minds. I revile racism as much as I do homophobia so I hope in the near future we'll have an anti-racist film of BBM's caliber--"Crash" is certainly not it. While I don't believe "Crash" has truly earned the nickname "Trash," it definitely settles far too often for mediocrity. Well, sales of a 2-disc "Special Edition" DVD release (which screams "ego-trip!") may yet demonstrate that the original name was more apt than anyone realized! In the meantime, I would suggest it's better to keep a dignified silence regarding the Academy voters' foolish attempt to turn the clock back a few decades.
Love to all Brokies--

It won't be easy. ;)

I agree, I don't think we have to worry about this non-existing movie selling more DVDs copies than BBM... Personally, Just me I'm getting 4 copies of BBM for myself... so think about those millions who will do the same as me! ( ;) :D :))

4 copies for yourself? Your poor DVD player. ;D

I went to Amazon.ca

Well. Here we are again. Universal/Focus staked out this date a while ago, and then, oddly, Lionsgate decided to put out this “director’s cut” of CRASH on the same day. Considering how little material appears to have been put back, I’m having a hard time believing that this is a purely artistic decision on the part of Lionsgate. Seems to me like they want to continue this bizarre either/or feud that developed during Oscar season. It makes me really want to visit this keynote panel this coming weekend, where Diana Ossama and Bobby Moresco are going to be sitting side-by-side onstage. Let’s see who brings a gun and who brings a knife. All I know is, this smacks of the same kind of smug opportunism and crass considered commercialism that CRASH suffers from onscreen...

I agree...I saw Crash early on and thought it was an OK if mediocre movie..certainly not an Oscar contender and nowhere near the caliber of our beloved BBM..I think what has made so many on this forum revile Crash is exactly what is going on now...Crash trying to cash in on BBMs BOOM....The movie COULD have been better..it COULD have been cast better..it probably rates a 75 out of 100..where BBM must be at least a 95 if not higher...BBM is a polished gem..the ONLY movie I have EVER seen that is as polished on all levels is Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf from 1966..that movie was a gem

I'm not a big movie buff, but I trust the opinions of my friends. Most are big movie buffs. None of them heard of Crash before it's nomination. It may actually be a decent movie, but none of clips I've seen makes me want to expend any effort to see it.
BBM's trailer grabbed my attention immediately. At that moment I knew it was a "must see" film. It surpassed all of my expectations and seared it's way into my heart forever. I will be so proud to own the DVD! As for the release of Crash: The Director's Cut...YAWN!! Maybe I will buy it when the abundance of surplus copies force it be discounted. ;D
-
For the record it's true. I saw Crash 2-Disc DVD poster right next to BBM's for the April 4th release at Target tonight - was hoping they would have them out before the store closed tonight, but no luck.... :'(
-
androphile is correct. Yes, Crash *IS* a good film.Loved the part of Matt Dillon and Thandie Newton..the message that the film tries to deliver is significant and it needs to be told. Having said that, I must also say that the film is good enough to be nominated but not *that* good to be the best picture..But I think SOMETIMES YOU WIN BY LOSING...and its best to keep a dignified silence..But its just SO hard to let go.
I was really hoping that it would win..On 6th March, I got up at 5 in the morning just to catch the Oscars live..For three and a half hours I stayed glued to the TV set like I have never done before- with occasional bursts of applaud(for the 3 others awards..); but then came the heartbeark. I did not realise that I was so into Brokeback Mountain untill that moment! I was sitting there, with a empty expression on my face...when my dad came in and saw me like that. He told me that I was acting like those crazy Indian cricket fans some of whom even commit suicide when India loses a game(by the way, cricket is the most popular sport in India..). Of course dad was joking..But he doesn't know anything about Brokeback Mountain and I am still in the closet..and he went on saying.."What's so special about this movie that is making you act like this?? Your sentiments doesn't mean a damn to them.."
When I heard this, I somehow lost my cool. I told dad that we don't always need to have personal stakes to be sad for someone..Dad was surprised at my answer but didn't say anything. What I could not tell him was that ..maybe, maybe I was hoping that what I will never be able to do, maybe this film could ..i.e gain acceptance.
Last Sunday, I saw Brokeback for the last time. And the reaction of the audience haven't changed a bit..Initially many laughed and hooted during that kiss ....but in the end many of them were sniffling...others were misty-eyed. A sure sign that the movie did what it was supposed to do. Ofcourse there were some who still laughed in the end too..but not everyone can change. The point is Brokeback did what it was meant for. The Oscar for Best Picture means a LOT, but so does the love of the audience...Crash might have got the former, but BBM has the latter..and releasing a DVD simultaneously can't change it.
By the way, a lot of thanks to Italian_dude for the welcome..It's good to be here. Feels like I am home.

they're not even showing crash in my theatre...
just my 2 cents... ;D

Well done I_D on the great review of Trash! ;D I know that my boyfriend wants to watch Crash so he'll probably buy it on DVD, but he knows that i'm buying at least 2 copies of BBM! (the normal edition and hopefully a collectors one if they release one). I gave a big speech to my family the other day explaining why BBM is obviously better than Crash and how BBM is infamous and Crash is non-exsistent, but they all got bored! ::) I haven't seen any adverts for either of the films though. Even if it is free, I would not want it.
BBM indeed is and will be the winner. I really have no concern from Crash. Lion Gate can persuade the academy voters but not the intelligent general public.
Maybe Crash will become the lowest DVD sales of all BV in Oscar history. But again - I don't care for the Oscar. ;D

Ol' Oscar won't be able to help this wreck Crash!

First, let me state for the record that I did not start out with any evil intentions toward Crash. I went to Amazon to see if they'd shipped my second copy of BBM yet. As soon as I got to Amazon, the first thing I saw was a recommendation for Crash. When I clicked on the "why was this recommended" button, they said they recommended Crash because I bought BBM!! What the Hell?!? Because I bought one of the best movies of the last century, they thought I'd be interested in a piece of garbage?? What an insult! I have to admit that I snapped. I gave it a one-star reveiw, and told them where they could put their Trash. That's what they get for goading me like that.
