Seriously folks, you are all welcome to come watch it on the "big" screen at my house in Seattle.  We all share a special bond, a special life experience that the movie has brought out in all of us that is unique only to us and not shared by those who did not "get it."  It has truly changed my outlook in life forever, chipped down at the wall that had been built up as a defense my whole life.

Hey, Jey-ee. I am not sure. I hear what you are saying. Some special bonuses would be nice but I will be just happy to see the DVD. Maybe it is because I have seen too many video clips - music video, interviews and of course all the discussions in this forum.

Why would you want full screen?

Because I still like to watch the DVDs in Full Screen format, besides you can see the whole picture and not just part of it...  I like it but also I would like a 'Full Screen' version!

No! You only see part of the picture with full screen. http://www.tigerdave.com/ws_vs_full.htm I understand using full screen if you have a tiny tv, because the picture will be bigger, but if your tv's not tiny, wouldn't you rather see the whole thing?

Ok, I give up...  You're right, wide-screen is the best!  I knew it but it's just that I don't have a new tv right now and specially with those features.  Anyway, thanks for your info!

You don't need any special features on your tv to watch widescreen. You just need a tv that you can hook a dvd player up to.

Hi, all -

New to your site, thanks to Jack in Maine for directing me here!

I live in Canada, and was able to pre-order a copy of the DVD from the Indigo website, which indicated an April 4th release date.

Of course, it won't be shipped until the the 4th, so by the time I receive the pre-ordered copy I will already have purchased the two others I need directly from the music/video store the day of release.

In the meantime, I guess it's back to the threatres while it's still playing there.

Cheers.

I just got a reply from the website where I pre-ordered BBM DVD.

Regarding pre-order, the studio notified all retailers not to be taking pre-books at this time but it will be up in a few weeks. The DVD will be released on April 4 but there may be a small chance of delay.

I think we will be getting the DVD soon.  :D

I'm interested in knowing if Wal-Mart sells the BBM DVDs.  The Walton family that owns it are very conservative and fundamentalist groups exert a lot of pressure in Bentonville, Arkansas (Wal-Mart HQ).

That's what I'm afraid of. Walmart is the closest store that sells DVD's. I worked there for a year and a half and I noticed that most of the GLBT titles weren't released there. I don't know about this one, though, because it is such a large title. They didn't have Ed Wood when it was released on DVD last year, but while that was not an independent film or anything, it wasn't huge either. I'll call Walmart and if they don't have it, I'll just have to find a ride to Target, I guess.

OH, COME ON GUYS!  DO WHAT I DO, IF THEY DON'T HAVE IN CERTAIN STORES... THAN I'LL JUST HAVE TO GO ANOTHER BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY POSSIBLE THAT I'M NOT GETTING THAT DVD...  IT WILL BE IN MY HANDS THE SAME DATE OF IT'S RELEASE (NO MATTER WHAT!)...  NOT JUST ONE COPY, BUT THREE OR MAYBE EVEN FOUR (ONE FOR MY BEST FRIEND, SISTER AND TWO COPIES FOR ME)!

A little warning to our friends who are not in DVD zone 1, and want to order from America to play on you laptop or desktop.  The DVD player on the computer could be disabled after 5 times you switch from a DVD zone 1 to another zone back and forth.

However, I'm quite sure there are some wizards on this board who will know how to manage with this.

You know I was realizing we can't have our tissue party on the 4th since many of us are ordering over mail, it might have to be a couple of days later.

I'm disappointed it sounds like no directors comments, I was hoping for that.  Oh well.

There used to be months between US and UK releases - at least it's only 20 days.

Plus, PAL (UK) DVDs have a sharper picture than NTSC (US) DVDs. All the better to watch those snogging scenes... ahem... I meant the magnificent scenery...  ;)

The tears will match the sweat and blood stains already on my cuffs. The cuffs and collar on this shirt are dirty to where cleaning it won't help, but I keep wearing it, because it reminds me of Ennis's shirt. You know, the shirt. Plus, it's comfy ;)

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is proud to announce that it will be releasing the powerful, affecting and one of the most talked about movies of the year - "Brokeback Mountain", which stars Academy Award Nominees Heath Ledger ("The Patriot", "The Lords of Dogtown"), Jake Gyllenhaal ("Jarhead", "Donnie Darko"), Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress Michelle Williams ("The Station Agent", "Prozac Nation") and Anne Hathaway ("Princess Diaries", Ella Enchanted") onto DVD. The disc will be available in both 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen and 1.33:1 Fullscreen editions, along with English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English SDH audio tracks. Subtitles are also available.

Based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is a sweeping epic that explores the lives of two young men, ranch-hand Ennis del Mar (Heath Ledger) and rodeo cowboy Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), who meet in the Summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection. The complications, joys and heartbreak they experience provide a testament to the enduraance and power of love. Ledger and Gyllenhaal deliver emotionally charged, remarkably moving performances in "a movie that is destined to become one of the great classics of our time" (Clay Smith "The Insider").

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN has won three Academy Awards including Ang Lee ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") for Best Director, Larry McMurtry ("Lonesome Dove", "Terms of Endearment") and Diana Ossana("Johnson Country War") for Best Adapted Screenplay and Gustavo Santaolalla ("Collateral", "21 Grams") for Best Original Score.

Nah, I don't think so.  Directors comments are comments that run through the entire movie.  That you can turn on and off.
Directing from the heart sounds like an interview or a statement he will make.

Yeah  *sigh*  bummer.  It woudl be SO great to hear Ang's comments on each scene, or the boys of course too
but I am guessing they won't.  I might actually be hard for the boys to have to scrutinize things like the love scenes.
As Jake said "We dove into them and then dove right back out"

Sometimes it comes under "language feature", when you have the films dubbed, you hit language and sometimes you get to hear the director's or actor's comments.

Naw, I believe you. I'm just jealous. It's all good, though. I can only afford one copy and I'm waiting to buy it at the store I used to work at. Everyone treated me like shit there, because they thought I was gay. I'm gonna walk in wearing the uniform for my new job, which pays more than that one did. it's gonna be ages until the release in Israel, and I don't even have a DVD player, only a video player... and when I checked Amazon I found it only on DVD. does any of you guys who ordered the DVD have a possibility to copy it from DVD to video (VHS)??? I thought I'd share this here, even though we know the release date lol:

'Brokeback Mountain' coming to DVD on April 4
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Those who have yet to see Brokeback Mountain, or those looking to see it again, will soon have a choice — the DVD will hit stores April 4, even with the film still in theatrical release.

The Brokeback Mountain DVD will feature a profile of Oscar-winning director Ang Lee.
By Kevork Djansezian, AP

That's a rare overlap, said a spokeswoman for DVD distributor Universal Studios Home Entertainment. But, she explained, with the film still riding high on its eight Academy Award nominations and three Oscar wins, its theater run has been extended, bumping into the scheduled DVD release.

The DVD's special features include a profile of Oscar-winning director Ang Lee and interviews with Oscar-winning screenwriters Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Oscar-nominated stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal also discuss the rodeo and wrangling training they had to prepare for their roles as the cowboys in love.

The Brokeback Mountain DVD is expected to sell for $29.98.

Brokeback, which opened in theaters Nov. 30, has grossed $81 million to date.

Yesterday, my mom asked me if I was going to buy BBM. I wasn't going to tell her, because I was afraid she would tell my dad, but I don't lie. If I'm asked, I tell the truth. She was happy. She said that she was hoping I would, because she could see herself watching it several times. She's even trying to get my dad to watch it. She's telling him that they could just not pay attention to the tent scenes.  ;D One more purchase that doesn't have to stay in my "incriminating evidence bag."

You all have probably noticed this already, but I just realized the amazon page has a video clip featuring Ang, heath and Jake I assume from one of the documentaries on the dvd. I haven't seen these clips before so it was quite interesting. Here's the link:

Mine could be in the mail any day now but if not receive by Tuesday, I'll get it at a store.  I'll have one copy for me, one copy to lent.

I know, I'm not addicted at all.

I have preordered 2 copies because I am sure I will wear out the first.   ;)

I ordered Amazon with 1 day shipping.  The shipping cost was 14.98 and each copy was 16.98 and if they don't deliver it the next day they had better be ready for some screaming at them. LOL

did anyone notice the TV ad for the DVD release?  I saw it for the first time two days ago and was very surprised.  The ad showed the DVD cover, then one second scenes from the film (2 of which were not, I think, in the film!) and the voice over didn't say "winner of 3 academy awards...."   but  "nominated for 8 academy awards including BEST FILM!"  Very interesting !

You're right stephen...I don't think the whole ad lasted 5 second.  I wasn't too happy.  I was planning to get my copy at Wal-Mart, but they don't even have the poster up yet.  I called and asked if they were going to get it, one of the "workers in the electronics dept." said she  "thought" so.  I said well the poster is not up yet.  She said it was too soon to put the poster up; I said the poster for CHRONICLES OF NARNIA is up and it comes out the same day  >:(...of course she didn't have an answer for that.  I'm going to call the business office today and see what they say.  Donna

My pre-ordered copy of BBM from Indigo.ca here in Canada ... ARRIVED THIS MORNING!!!

I don't know how they justify mailing it out before the offical release date, but I'm not complaining.  Lucky, lucky me.

I had planned on going  to the threatre one last time this weekend, but maybe I'll just stay home with our boys.

Of course, I could always do both .. just to continue to support BBM box office numbers.

glad to hear you two are still supporting the box office run of BBM; The DVD was number #1 in pre orders alone, so all of this will help to support Focus and Ang Lee's work in getting the story to the big screen!  My DVD has not arrived yet; to tell you the truth, I'm a bit nervous about seeing BBM on the small screen! Wish I were rich enough to have my own home theater.

Stephen, I am with you on that one.  I had the DVD out all weekend and couldn't bring myself to watch the movie!  I checked out the bonus features to get my fix, but I just couldn't run the actual film.  I want the setting and the mood at home to be just right when the boys come into my home for the first time, I guess.

If anyone has been able to watch it at home, please tell us if it "feels" any different.  I've never thought of theatre viewing as being intimate, but for some reason, seeing this very private story told on the big screen just made it seem so real.

Can you still get that feeling at home, with all the usual distractions and without a massive home theatre system? ???

I can understand the need to wait for the right moment. I just went through this with my newly acquired BBM soundtrack CD. I was really stressed out when I received my CD in the mail (I had lost something and was frantically looking for it). I had to put the CD away and not listen to it until I was in a better frame of mind.

Title: And ..................... Release .....
Post by: Hurleycook on Apr 04, 2006, 04:17 PM
Well, it's finally out, don't know if this is where people are talking aboooot it, but anyways,

Went to Target, there it was, and on sale, not bad, the wide screen and the modified for full screen format - and since I only have a small t.v., I got the full screen format - seen it seven times on the big screen, so it's kind of an adjustment, but the feelings are already there, so it's ok, panoramic scenes are truncated, sound track is not as good, maybe I can run it through my computer's speakers - I don't have one of them thar movie theatre set ups in my house - although now I am very motivated to get one just because I want to have this movie in my house the way I saw it in the theatre.  (Breaaaathe.....)

Among other things, I almost felt guilty for not waiting until I got a 50 inch wide screen or something that I swore I was gonna get before I bought this DVD - I swore that I would not desacralize this movie by watching it on a small screen with small audio - but I couldn't wait I guess, so I did - such is the pain and anguish of of not being able to delay my spiritual gratification - but what IS it with some tv's (shit) - - they are so dark, there are times when you can't even see what's happening on the screen because the scene is dark in the first place and then, dammit - anyway this movie tends to be dark in lots of spots and I'm fixing it (which may eventually include throwing the damn thing from the porch to the street - which is no small feat), so ok, like I know I'm rambling, but anyways, got all the way to Aguirre riding up to tell Jack his mother said his uncle was dying, then I had to go back to work, shit, anyway ... more later

I ripped open that package as soon as I got home. I started to cry a little having them home with me. Am I the only one who got emotional over having Jack and Ennis come home?
I'm not going to be able to watch it until Friday but I will watch the extras before then.

I feel your frustration Hurley though for me on my TV, 27", wide screen version of the DVD I thought the tent scenes were lighter. You could really see those passionate kisses. I agree with you about the sound and am now considering mugging someone for the money to buy a sound package for the TV. LOL Not really, but has become suddenly very high on my priorities list.

The UPS guy pulled into our driveway at around 2pm something and I met him at the door.  It was my copy of BBM or the two copies that is I preorderd from Amazon.

The DVD is crystal clear and vivid and gorgeous.  Amazingly great quality.  The bonus features are great.  I don't want to spoil it for others so I will wait to comment another time.

We have been to Alberta to horses show twice and it is beautiful but the scenes in this film top that.  Big horse country up there around Calgary.  I could smell the pines, firs, and cedars from the DVD.  The air up there is really something to breathe.

Anyhoo hope everyone gets their copy soon so we can talk about the bonus features.

My husband watched it with me and he is really beginning to see even the beauty of the love between the two guys.  He of course loves the backdrop, ranching and horses.  He goes camping on horseback even in winter.

I will watch it again after the kids go to bed.  They ate dinner at their grandmothers so we could watch it.  They are only 4 and 7 so not for them.

My Amazon order is in transit, according to the package tracking site I just checked. I did have a very nice surprise when I came home from work last night. There was a copy of the full screen DVD version of BBM on the counter! My SO picked it up for me at BJ's, bless his heart. He didn't know that I had pre-ordered from Amazon, and I didn't tell him. I ordered the widescreen version anyway, so they are different. Not sure when I will break open the package and watch. I want to be in the right "mood." I have been too tired after work lately - work has been grinding me into the ground, so I will bide my time until I can give it my full attention, which it deserves...

Got mine DVD from Amazon yesterday - the Full Screen Version. I have not opened it and just took a close took of every details on the DVD.

On the back of plastic wrap - there is a small ink printed "DISC MADE IN MEXICO" --- got me thinking about Ennis questionning Jack for being to Mexico (of course there is no relationship here)

Also, the photos on the back are of course not showing Ennis and Jack together but two photos of hetero couples (Alma & Ennis and Lureen & Jack).

On top of the DVD - it says "Four-Star Collection"  Does anyone know what it mean?

After waiting and waiting, and not being able to buy it at Wal-Mart the other day because of lack of time, I have FINALLY bought the BBM DVD.

What an experience! I would like to share my "buying BBM" story, even though I haven't watched it yet.

I am one of those people whose family is against BBM and any BBM-related things, so I was forced to buy the DVD in secret. And I tell you, what a nerve-wracking thing it is to buy in secret! I thought I was going to be able to skip away from my mother and sidle over to the movie section and buy it just like that.

But oh how wrong I was!

I managed to skip away from my mother while she was checking out (using the vague "I'll be back in a minute" excuse). Unfortunately, the line in the movie section was big. But this did not prevent it. I walked over to the BBM DVD, stared at it for a moment (nervously thinking "OMG I'm ACTUALLY going to buy BBM!) and then grabbed it. As soon as it was in my hands, there was NO WAY I was letting go of it!

I was so nervous. My heart was beating fast. All my limbs were trembly. I waited. Waited some more. The old lady in the front of the line complained about a movie she had bought. A family in front of me was trying to quiet their kid, who was getting a new game. I wished so much that the line would move faster, because I knew my mom was waiting.

Thank god that my mom knows I am easily distracted and that there were TONS of ppl at Wal-Mart (since it is Easter weekend). OTHERWISE, she would've been suspicious when I got in the car.

Anyway, the wait finally ended, and I handed the guy my money and he bagged the DVD. Then came "THE BIG DILEMMA." How to fit the DVD into my tiny purse and hide it from my eagle-eyed mother? After a great struggle with the purse which I FINALLY won by realizing I could hide the edge of the DVD-box with my arm (this is where I thanked God that my purse was a "hug to your side" type).

So there I waltzed, past the checkouts, a giant grin on my face, with the DVD under my arm. Waltzed in the car, apologized to the mom, and actually got INTO the house without her noticing my arm constantly over my purse, or my lack of holding it an other way (and thankfully she didn't notice the blue Wal-Mart bag paper that might have been picking out from under my arm).

I was so nervous when buying the DVD (paranoid my mom would come 'round the corner and see what DVD I was holding), that I didn't even think to check fullscreen or widescreen (after all my perusing of that thread, too!) But I just took a look, and it is fullscreen. I am happy, because that is what looks best on my type of TV. Hopefully not too much will be cut out...even if there is (I hope not), I think the fullscreen was the only version available at Wal-Mart right now.

There was another lady who I heard say to her friend, "I want to buy Brokeback Mountain." Hearing that made me grin. Yay for fellow BBM fans!

It is thanks to you all that I had the courage to actually buy the DVD. Reading about people's experiences with BBM and watching the DVD and everyone's eagerness to buy it made me positive that no matter what, I HAD to own the movie myself.

And now the DVD is hidden safely in my closet. Hopefully it won't roast! I wanted to hide it in a cooler place, but the closet is my best hiding spot. I won't get to watch it till Wednesday or Thursday or even Friday, whenever the house is empty of all but me.

But just knowing that it is there, that I finally OWN IT, omigosh, and that I can WATCH it AGAIN...and again...and again...and slow-mo...and rewind...!!!!  I am sososo happy!  ;D ;D ;D

The copy from Wolfe, with the bandanna, was waiting in the mailbox when I got home from work.  The copy from Amazon has made it to Jacksonville (FL) so far.  This was my first experience with Wolfe and I'm impressed!

My order from Amazon showed up yesterday. Instead of the 2 copies of BBM that I ordered, though, I only found one in the package. I contacted them this morning and the other copy is on its way. I was very impressed with their customer service!
To conclude the story, my other BBM DVD arrived yesterday, as promised. Now, I just need to make plans with my buddy to give it to him. I am certain that he will be both surprised and delighted!
