Someone posted and verified on another board that Ennis actually says "I love you" while exhaling after he smells the shirts in Jack's bedroom! Did anyone hear it? I'll have to go check it out tonight when I get home ;D WOW (might have to turn on the subtitles just to be sure)

Indeed, this would be interesting to verify. If he said it, it was probably so "under the voice", which makes it so wonderfully appropriate and moving.

You will be able to hear that if you add all the volume to your tv or headphones, also repeat the scene because he said it in a faster way and very difficult to hear! :o :o :o
It won't appear in the subtitles because it's more like a whisper... also, ennis does move his lips... zoom in and you'll see for yourselfs! Wow, this new to me and I just found out for myself! ;) :D :o

Me too Cham, It looks like his lips are brushing over the shirt and he sort of sighs but no matter how I try ( and God I want to hear the words) I can't hear him say anything.

I don't believe you guys, me here that I wasn't even born in this country understand very clear those words... Do what I did, at first I didn't get it and I was like... that person in forum was making lies about this whole scene, but than I repeated the scene like three times and it was there! I'm not lying, do what I did and you'll be able to hear that as well! ALSO ZOOM IN, ennis move his lips!!!

I watched again... sorry no I Love You, my DVD player is pluged to my stereo, I had the volume at the max... no I Love You.

Oh God, now I'm going to have to put in my DVD and watch it a third time just to look for this! I watched the second time with CC on the entire time, and I don't recall seeing any "I Love You's." As someone mentioned above, though, since it was just a faint whisper, it might not have even been captioned. Who knows.
I'll definitely have to watch for it, though. Through the whole movie, I kept waiting for them to profess their love to one another. They kept referring to their love as 'this thing' that grabs ahold of them, but they never once said to one another they they loved each other, and I wanted to hear it SO bad! So, I'll have to check it out.

Never watch closed captioning or subtitles. They are not accurate. Watch his lips and listen, full blast and amplified more if possible. Ennis has his mouth half-covered with the shirts, but if you look very closely, you can see him say, "I love you." The words are more whispered than spoken, and they're not in the subtitles. It almost makes me wonder if Ang Lee did this deliberately - hid little "treasures" like this in the movie to drive us all insane trying to find them.

Actually, I believe it was Heath Ledger's idea. He seems to have put a lot of thought into his character and the whole movie.
I am going to be honest here and say that when I first saw Heath he was a bundle of nerves that drove me up the wall. And when he stood on stage with his hand on his hip at the SAG Awards was it and giggled over the intro to BBM I really was not impressed with him EXCEPT for his acting ability. That was magnificent. But I am beginning to believe Heath is a very sensitive young man who is going to be a force to be recconed with as an actor. I think we all have the privilege of seeing a shooting star in the making. With BBM, I can't help but wonder if his real Ennis back home didn't give him some of that sensitivity.

When I saw this thread, I was skeptical at first, as we all know that this film tends to be whatever the viewer, or in this case listener, needs it to be. I had to check it out for myself, so I did, listening very carefully and my initial response was, it's not there, it's just an exhalation of breath after breathing in deeply searching for a trace of Jack's scent. And he sort of puffs the air out. But I tried it again, with the sound turned up as high as the tube McIntosh will go, now I could hear something in that exhalation. It took 3 more passes before I was convinced, but now I am!! And the words aren't even really whispered they are just barely breathed, but they are matched by lip movements. What an amazing detail, a revelation!! And it is followed almost immediately by Roberta Maxwell's nod of the head when she sees Ennis bringing the shirts down the with him. Has there ever been another film that rested so heavily on such delicate nuances?? And I'm sure I don't have to tell you all what my reaction was.

BTW I had my eyes operated this last Wednsday, and up until today I wasn't even able to sit in front of the computer. no ennisjack.com, no posts, no youtube videos... I still can't see very clearly, everything is a bit blurry, otherwise I'd rush to the theater again tonight!!!

Yes, it's very brief and uttered in a sigh, so you have to really pay attention and turn the volume up or listen with headphones. It is soooooooo sweet. Gives more certainty to the "Jack, I swear" line... Also, did you all notice how subtle the background sounds are (using headphones) while he is in Jack's room? You can hear all the creaks on the wooden floor and the wind blowing on the outside.

Yes, I noticed this. I watched the DVD on my laptop with headphones, volume turned up 100% since it is a quiet scene. All the sounds, coupled with the images on the screen, make for an incredible experience: wind; creaking wood planks; sighs; outdoor sounds; the muffled and sighed, "I love you." It's amazing.

They only sound I hear from Ennis' lips is a sigh...sorry no words at all, regardless if I have the volume up full or listen through headphones ( which I asked my sister to bring up specially).
I must be stupid then cos I can't hear those three little words at all.
I'll just leave it till I hear something or read something from Heath or Ang in an interview.

Tom I didn't hear it either and I have an excellent set of Sony headphones but then I was one of the first to hear the I'm sorry I'm sorry in the second tent scene and I'll be da**ed if I can hear it now, but I know it is there, heard it clear as a bell several times. But then I have yet the brought some beans statement either. Guess I'll just have to keep watching the DVD over and over and over again til I hear all this stuff. Darn, I was so looking forward to watching the grass grow outside of my apartment. ;D

That is really so sad because it IS there and it makes that one scene (for me anyway) THE scene of the movie. I was watching the NASCAR Busch race this morning/afternoon. Nothing can be further from Brokeback Mountain what with its rednecks and yet several times while watching I just burst into tears. How beautiful it is to hear those words when none were expected.

So. I'm in the middle of a big work project and promised myself that I wouldn't even open the DVD until I'd finished my project nex week. However, this "I love you" discussion got under my skin, and I decided to go ahead and open the DVD and play that scene, all the while thinking that I'm never going to hear this (I have a hearing loss). Never mind. It came through clear as a bell. It's breath taking and heart breaking, and... I wonder why no one heard it in the theater??? Maybe the DVD really does come with "extras" and they just weren't listed on the package! Allan

As he's picking the shirts up his hand goes to the chest of the shirt and I swear I heard him say "Oh Jack" or just "Jack" {I played it 4 times } then after he is inhaling I heard the I love you! ;D :'( That just wrecked me even more. That scene was hard enough before that, now it just rips your heart out even more. :'(

I am so glad you got to hear it! Isn't it wonderful? Those three words make me cry harder and more than the whole movie and that is a LOT. Also his shuddering breath when he finds his shirt inside Jack's crushes my heart. This discovery was a total shock to him. I am so grateful it was Heath Ledger that was chosen to do this movie. I don't think anyone else would have added as much to it as he has.

I'm with you- hearing the I love you devestated me. That makes that scene even more painful. I watched it again and it could just be his breath but before he puts the shirts up to his chest- when he first takes the shirts out it sounded like he said "Jack". I could be wrong, but that's what it sounded like to me. Either way, the "I love you" just took this scene to a whole new level for me.

I'm with you on this one. The whole point of the film is that the time or the opportunity to say I love you was taken away from Ennis by the death of Jack. To say it at that point would diminish the tragedy and be an insult to Jack, to only to be able to say it once he was dead.

LESS tragic!? No way. It makes it even more tragic for me. Ennis has finally realized he was in love with Jack and now it is too late.

<OT>Wish I had learned diplomacy. Raised by my grandmother who was a very blunt person. I love her for it. You may not always like what she said but you sure knew where she stood. But, I guess there is a way to do the same thing diplomatically.

I guess tragedy was the wrong choice of word... how about significant... "I love you" is a phrase with three simple words... an everyday person can say them without feeling it, but to feel it without saying those words take things to a completely different level. That's what I have (hopefully others as well) gotten from the short story, the screenplay, and the film. To me, it is the significance of such strong love - one which you can feel it without the other person saying it - that makes its loss in the end so heart wrenching that it takes your breath away.
Anyway, like dirtbiker says, to each their own...

I listened to it. I even played it on my computer and used audio software...and yep...he says "I love you!" And if you watch his lips he moves them at the time in which the words are said. They are almost inaudible. I had my ear phones on and listened several times to make sure I was hearing it.
No matter whether he said these words or not...we the audience can feel the depth of his love. It is most fitting in how he spoke these words so softly which was in character for Ennis. If he had spoken those three little words loudly...we would have not believed it. To speak them softly, is the same as a kiss to me.

I want to hear him saying these words, but on the other hand I don't need to. I KNOW Ennis loves Jack. His expression says that. When he holds the shirts close to him and closes his eyes and inhales Jack's smell, you can hear his heart crying out "I LOVE YOU". the pain on his face speaks for itself. Isn't that's what got us crying from the begining, even before hearing the words?

While I agree that them not saying "I Love You" made the story that much more powerful, hearing Ennis say it only enhances the story for me.
Here is a man that is not big on endearments, so for those words to make it out of his mouth was a miracle. We see him finding out that Jack is dead, then finding out that Jack was bringing another guy to the Twist ranch. How much more devastating can that be? He goes up to Jack's room and finds the shirts- he not only has a tangible reminder of Jack, he sees how enduring Jack's love was. Ennis is where he always belonged- inside of Jack- two in one. He is holding Jack in his arms again. Those shirts said I love You. Did the words need to be said? Absolutely not. Was that scene extremely devastating prior to any I love you? You bet. If Jack had said those words I don't think that would have been out of character for him. But Ennis? That moment probably flooded him with so many conflicting emotions and in some way was a comfort and possibly relief for him, holding the love of his life in his arms again. So I don't find it completely inconceivable that while "holding" Jack again and that an endearment could escape his lips.

Whether Ennis vocalizes it or not, there is no doubt in my mind that he does say 'I love you' in his heart at that moment when he breathes the imagined scent of Jack from the shirt.
I am not quibbling here. There are so many times when we catch ourselves saying the most important things in life (things typically taken for granted that would sound awkward when vocalized) deep within our hearts: the one place where it matters the most.
To answer this question is, in a sense, academic. How can he NOT say 'I love you' at that very moment? It does not matter to me if we hear him say it or not.

It doesn't matter to me either. It was known and felt troughout the whole movie. With those two shirts, Jack was once again the ministering angel to Ennis, reaching out even in death to the love of his life.

Hello LuvJackNasty. I know we all agree in that most important point: that Ennis loved Jack. I doubt that any viewer would not have interpreted his silent embrace of the shirts as a declaration of love. It is a powerful expression -- that embrace. It was as if he was enveloping the dead Jack in his arms. He loved him then both physically and spiritually. I weep for him.

I don't really care if it's said or not. The movie was perfect for me as it stands.
I wasn't given a set of headphones when I entered the cinema and the sound was not at it's maximum level. This tells me that if it is there it is an addition sotte voce from Heath as is / was the one from Jake in the other thread. If the only way to hear this is to distort the volume levels and listen through headphones then obviously Ang didn't intend it to be heard.
Sometimes we try to over analyse and dissect things to the point you can no longer enjoy them for what they are.

That's all that is important- the love they had. I weep for them both. I can't imagine the feelings running through Ennis- their last time together was not a happy one, he never got to say goodbye, he's been denied the ashes. He has no closure and then he finds the shirts and embraces Jack. :'(

I am getting ahead of myself here, as this is a key element in my next write-up about the role of Jake's Jack Twist: you can see the deepening of that love between Ennis and Jack even as frustration and recriminations pile up between them over the years. And in most cases, those instances that tell you that the love is growing ever deeper is tinged by so much sadness and regret. This admixture is not a contradiction. It is how it is in real life. In bitterness and in hope, love forever deepens. In that end of all ends, there is silence: a knowing silence, a comforting silence, a silence that rings out louder than any sound on earth or in heaven. In that silence, love is deepest. In that deep silence, the voice of love can at last be heard.
We weep for him. We weep with him.

When i saw the movie at the theater in January, I knew there was alot of the quiet conversation between Jack and Ennis that I could not hear. I bought the DVD when it was released recently and the sound quality and picture quality is mutch better on my TV (HI_DEF and good speakers).
I did hear Ennis in the closet scene say "I love you" after someone from this forum pointed out to me where to look. Ennis puts the shirts up to his mouth, takes in a deep breath and begins to exhale when he says it rather quickly. My heart almost stopped when I heard it.
I could also hear other quiet conversations on the DVD that I could not hear in the theater. In the first tent scene, Jack does say "f*** me" twice. It occurs after Ennisn grunts at 28:21 and 28:23. Its pretty clear when you turn the volume up. I could hardly believe it. Maybe it was added to the DVD and not played in the theater version so that the general audiences would be more accepting of the movie.(On the DVD, the picture qualtiy in the tent scenes is also much better and brighter The tent scene in tbe theater was darkened. Again maybe to make it more acceptable to the general audience. Just a theory.)
In the second tent scene I was also able to hear "i,m sorry" ( I can't tell if Jack or Ennis who said it) followed by Jack caressing Ennis's face and saying two times "it's alright".
Finally, during the reunion scene, after Jack and Ennis hug and before any kiss, they pull slightly apart and look each other in the face and Ennis softly says"come here" then throws Jack into the wall and kisses him. Later when Jack has his hands alll over Ennis, Ennis pushes Jack's arms down to his side and quietly says to Jack "later".
I want to say thanks to everyonje for pointing these quiet consversations out. Most of them I missed at the theater.They are there.

cause last time i've seen bbm in theater (it's about a week ago, but i just remembered it), i saw ennis mouth form the words I love you! it was very clear. of course it could be just breathing, but it definately looked like this words! I didn't really expect to see it, to be honest - it was still light when I was watching and that affected the tv screen. All the bits that were in daylight were easy to see, but all the nighttime scenes, and those indoors, had reflections on the screen. Planning to watch it tomorrow night once it's dark so maybe I'll have more luck then.

Last time I saw it in theatre I paid close attention - I saw his lips moving, they were definitelly moving, I didn't HEAR what he whispered there though, it could've been "I love you" but I still can't say for sure.

after this was brought to my attention ( thanks to Riobbm23 ;) ), I really concentrated on that scene during my 7th&8th theater viewing and I could have sworn I heard it. very subtle, very quite, like a soundless whisper ( yet another paradox ), as if being said through...air, unnoticable but yet, possible to sense.

I think I maybe expressed myself badly above - what I really meant was that Ennis has never been able to say how he feels, and he certainly never makes any statement of love (although he shows it over and over again) so it would go against his character to actually say "I love you", even though it's when Jack can no longer hear him.

Ennis has just seen the shock of his life. He suddenly realizes that Jack has been in love with him for twenty years. Why would it be out of character for him to tell Jack he loved him? He isn't saying it to Jack. He isn't saying it out loud. It is still a repressed "I love you" but it would be the most natural thing to say at that moment.
If not "I love you", then what? What else would fit at that time and place?

I've just watched that bit half a dozen times with the volume on the surround sound cranked way up and I'm still not 100% sure, but it does sound a lot like "I love you". Maybe you're right, Patriot1, that the shock of his discovery, the realisation that Jack was in love with him all those years, makes him remember that he never told Jack how he felt and fills him with a sudden need to "say it back".
Whether he does or not, this scene breaks my heart every time :'( :'(

IMO, " I love you" fits beautifully, as in addition to our knowlege of Ennis's love for Jack from their first summer, we also are witnesses to the numerous times Jack tries vainly to get Ennis to verbalize his feelings for him in some way. And when Ennis is finally able to comply, Jack is gone. It is too late, and it is Ennis's realization of that fact that prompts the expression, almost involuntarily or sub-consciously. There is no way I can see that lessening the power of the tragedy; if anything it heightens it. It is not really audible at normal volumes, it isn't in any of the available texts and doesn't show up on the captions, so I'm not insisting that it is an established fact. Nor do I insist that others must hear it. But I believe it does fit perfectly, and if present, is another testimony to the brilliance of Mr. Ledger's performance because his understanding of the character Ennis Del Mar proceeds from bone depth. I was already inclined to build a shrine or statue to Heath after I found out it was his idea to reverse the shirts; if this was an ad-lib from him, I am convinced that a mere Best Actor Oscar was not worthy of his work. Interesting thought, Patriot1. If they add audio tracks in "layers" why not set up the DVD so that the music can be switched off? It certainly shouldn't present any technical difficulties to enable this feature.

The "Jack" is very, very faint. Ennis says it, I believe, right after he puts his right hand on the shirt, and before he brings it up to his chest to embrace. His lips barely move, but Ennis says a whole lot with his lips no mor than a quarter of an inch open! I think when he says "Jack," in that moment, it hits Ennis like a ton of bricks; how much Jack loved him, how much he loved Jack, and what he could have done for love but didn't.

It's a whisper as he's exhaling. I thought nothing could make that scene more heart-wrenching than it already was and then this did it. I also heard him say "Jack"- when he first takes the shirts out of the closet and as his hand goes to the chest of the shirt. Then he embraces the shirts... :\'(

2. When Alma Jr goes to tell Ennis that her and Kurt are getting married and he asks "This Kurt - does he love you?" (She answers "Yes Daddy, he loves me" so I guess you could say it's said three times!)

Lee seems to have been given us hints, clues and that kind of stuff in almost every part of this incredible film.. I don't know, I just came to think of it. Ennis does never come "out of the closet" and there, in the closet, he finally "says" that phrase - that certainly isn't needed. But just because it's said in the way it's said, it's so much more powerful.
I hope you were able to get anything out of this, I got all set up writing it.

Cham - Heath doesn't say it OUT LOUD...he sort of whispers it on the exhalation, but if you listen carefully you can hear it. He holds the two shirts up to his face and inhales deeply then he whispers "I love you" on the exhale. I SWEAR I HEAR IT EVERY TIME NOW

1. use your favorite movie player.
2. set the volumn in your movie play to maximum.
3. if you use windows xp set the system volumn to maximum (this is not the same as your movie player)
4. set "auto replay" or "repeat" in your movie player.
5. click play.
If you have headphones for your computer, by all means use them, just be careful of your ears as the volumn is set to maximum.
The movie segment will play over and over until you stop it.
If you don't have a favorite movie player, I use Windows Media Player, you can click on the 'film strip" below and it will play on your screen but will not repeat. You will have to keep clicking play.

Now that I know what to look/listen for when I watch the DVD, I can see/hear it everytime, but now I have a little slice of Ennis saved on my computer that I can watch WHENEVER I want....

I've just looked over the clip posted and now im probably torn 50/50. The first few watches I thought it was just the way the breathing came out but I can actually see how the 'i love you' would be interpreted - his lips also do move as if to speak. hhhhhmmmmmm............how interesting. I think it was done to not be obvious either way - that he does or doesn't say it. Personally, im still not convinced he says it but as metioned before we can all draw our own conclusions and bring those thoughts in when experiencing the movie.

Listened/watched countless times. I'm a bit more convinced than I was, but still not 100%. I find it easy to believe that this is the only way that Ennis could have ever said those words to anyone. Through utter heartbreak. So that makes this easier for me to see. The problem I'm still having is I'm just not hearing words come from his mouth. I see his lips move as if he's saying something, for sure. It is there, no doubt. I just cannot hear any audible words, but I guess that is the point, huh? I really wouldn't expect Ennis to shout it from the rooftops. So I'm going to say that it is there, I'm just too dang deaf to hear it. I'll keep listening though in hopes that one day I'll hear the words.

I've listened over and over and though it looks as if he's moving his lips, I can'tcatch any distinguishable words. It took me a while to hear some of the others, eg in FNIT, though, so I guess I'll just have to keep listening, though it's a great hardship.

I hadn't thought about it in awhile, but I remember thinking I heard Ennis say "I love you" during that scene while at my first viewing at the theater (12/09/05). Ironically, during subsequent viewings I didn't hear it again. Since I am usually an emotional pile of rubble by that time in the movie, I just ended up blaming it on my romantic subconcious and wishful thinking. Now I know for sure that I did hear it. I just ran that sequence through six times and my heart swelled a little with each utterance! Awesome! (And I (again) applaud Heath for his acting brilliance!!) :clap: :clap: :clap:

It doesn't really bother me that much that I didn't hear it. I don't have headphones connection so maybe that's the problem. If so many people have heard it I guess it's there, but I don't think it'll change much whether I hear it or not - I know what Ennis feels in that moment. For me, what goes through is head is "God, I've never realised you loved me so much from the begining, I'm sorry Jack, I love you too, I love you so much but now I won't ever have the chance to tell you". whether he says it or not, I know he feels that love in his heart and he's finally able to admit it. The fact that other people heard him say it just confirms my feelings.

I don't feel the character would say that. Even with all that has happened, all he is at point of saying is Jack I swear, I feel meaning i honor you and wish on some level I did more right by you. But the three little words isn't Ennis.

I think this is as close as Ennis could come to saying "I love you", I don't understand what the problem is in saying this, like we are all some how above saying it, to hear it. This story was about love, and if it wasn't would be here talking about? In one way or another in our deepest of hearts this what we want, this what want to give, and what we want to receive, and want to hear whispered in our ears.

When I checked out again BBM in my laptop, I didn't hear Ennis saying "I LOVE YOU" after taking a deep breath and exhaled but when I closely watched it again and listened to that, YES I HEARD THAT!!! I heard that many times and I saw also that the lips of Ennis moving and saying "I LOVE YOU".. OMG I can't resist to cry again...

I've tried to hear it, but can't. Then I realize that actions speak much louder than any words possibly could, and the way in which Ennis holds the shirts, smells them, rubs them on his face and cries is enough for me. If that isn't love, I don't know what is.

It's a whisper as he's exhaling. I thought nothing could make that scene more heart-wrenching than it already was and then this did it. I also heard him say "Jack"- when he first takes the shirts out of the closet and as his hand goes to the chest of the shirt. Then he embraces the shirts... :\'(

That's how it was for me CSC. That scene still rips me to shreds. Hearing it just made it worse for me. That scene says too damn much whether or not one hears it :\'(

Amazing...this was one of the scenes in the trailer that locked me into an obsession with this film in the first place. Who would have thought more than a year and a half later there would be something new to discover.

I disagree. Ennis is a changed man after all this. Yes, he is stubborn shy, hard to reach, but this reached Ennis as nothing had ever did in his life. This is not the same Ennis even as he sat in the Twist kitchen before he found the shirts. He did'nt realize the depth of Jack's undying love for him until this moment. I could see Ennis saying it and he did.
This did it for me too, and I don't normally cry during movie scenes but just thinking about it brings tears. Ennis was'nt made of stone and the proof is in this pudding, the testament , if you will of him breathing/sighing the words "I love you to Jack ...finally. At this momement the shirts * became* Jack for him, as Ennis tearfully pulled the shirts into a *hug* (Adjusting the arms/sleeves) trying to will Jack back to life by smelling the shirts too. :\'( :\'( and probably thinking "if only I could see you alive one more time, I'd give you that sweet life like you wanted me to. I was wrong" Jack, and I do love you)" .Regrets were definitly in order for him. Through his actions and verbal confession we get the picture. MO.

Whether it was said or not, ( and I believe I have heard it) his actions convey just what we all know he is saying.

Interesting and moving topic that I regret to having lose in its moment because I wasn´t still a part of these persons who can write such a nice posts as you¡I disagree with Toadily because I think,like aintnofolin,that Ennis changes after Jack´s death;human nature is complicated enough as to realized the deepness and importance of what we got only when we´ve lost it.And then we say or do what we must have said or done much before,but it´s to late...Ennis got shocked when he saw the shirts,and this shock was like a blow with a hammer against his macho man´s shield.Then,he could easily say the words he never wanted,be able or admited to say to Jack before;as if he was saying to himself "Why wasn´t I brave enough to tell him I LOVE YOU?But I agree also with who say that his actions in Twist´s home speak for himself.

I feel it is Ennis's personal responsibility hitting home here. Whai I mean is that the fact that Ennis DID"NT take what Jack wanted seiously enough till now. His involvement in this reality to him is what's so painful. He knows only one thing at this moment and that is it is better if Jack had'nt died. Period.
He did leave/die , though under very mysterious circumstances and I have a fantasy that lingers. A *what if* scenario.That there is a case of "mistaken identity", Jack is not dead , but only missing. and Jack shows up one day on Ennis's door step alive and well. If Jack still wants his sweet life with Ennis having had this serious wake up call, there's no doubt at that point he'd have gotten it. If Ennis could have gotten a second chance with Jack, he would have done it, now knowing the devastating alternative to not committing. My opinion and a wish. Thanks.

I totally agree with you,aintfoolin,and precisely some of us spoke about this possibility of a Jack´s escape pretending he was dead before everybody-including Ennis,or perhaps mainly before Ennis-.And how in this case,Ennis had learned the lesson enough bitterly to overcome his paranoias reacting in a very different way from the one he had done all his life.As I said before,we usually "wake" when it´s too late or when the blow it´s too strong,although it isn´t hopeless still.A wonderful wish,AF, thanks to share it with us.

Aintfoolin, MPJ, a friend of mine said to me that perhaps Ennis didn't change at all, and he neither would have wanted that sweet life if he had have a second chance, 'cause his theory about being killed for being gay was confirmed with Jack's dead....... If Jack were still alive he probably would be more understanding, but he were even more afraid of being killed than before and he were afraid of loosing Jack again if they were found out.
I never thought about it in that way, but I think it could makes sense; what do you think?

i had downloaded movie transcript of BBM (all dialogues !) ... its mentioned that after discovering the shirts ennis holds them and breathes in saying "I love you" .. is it true? has anybody actually heard it ?

So... I re-watch the scene and I've heard nothing, only Ennis's breath. All I got is tears in my eyes :-\\ I haven't seen BBM since 5 months and just watching this scene totally devastated me. I can't believe how I am still so sensitive with this movie.
I agree with the quote of lamusica posted above. In a way, I heard I love you, simply by watching him delicately embrace the shirt and breathe it. It's painfully beautiful :_(

In my case, I can't imagine what could be a group watch of BBM... It would be an unforgettable moment I guess. But, this movie is so a part of me, I think I would feel myself like, I don't know, "naked" in front of you all, or something like that!! ;D Or at least my soul would be naked.
