Quite disappointing but I was expecting that, the movie had a general release but it was not distributed in the major cinemas in the country - basically you can find it in multiplexes but not in the most central venues (that are usually the busiest during week-ends=).
The most seen movie was an italian one, which is fine as it is a movie set as a national blockbuster.
Woody Allen's Match Point was at #2, and The 40 year-old virgin was #3.
"I Segreti di Brokeback Mountain" grossed ? 883.459 from January 20 (release date) to the 22nd.
On a side note, the italian language version was a massacre to the movie IMHO.

I agree with you with the Italian language was a massacre...
I can tell that even if in number 4 the film is going better.. maybe some surprise will be coming out next weekend!

Italian journals liquidate the filma such as a "gay western"... that's near to be offensive... the film is not a western story and is not a gay story... I think that there is something political point of view in this situation...

You know..I almost punched my brother in law for a stupid comment he made
I said "Have you seen BBM?"
and he answered
"Oh no!! I saw the trailer :it' a boring film about two *beep* (an untranslatable word that means gay but a bit more offensive) No, I surely won't go and see it."

I just saw the Italian trailer for Brokeback Mountain,
I'm an Italian-Canadian so I love to see or hear anything in my native Italian, so when I saw the trailer it gave me chills, then I was kind of like "what?"
and thats only because with the Italian words it sounds less authentic because the country and western accent to their voices isn't there.. you can see it here:

Its sad that BBM isnt doing that great in italy like it is everywhere else.. I probably can guess why, but whatever! I'll keep my fingers crossed

They actually re-edited the trailer a couple of weeks ago, putting much hype on the movie's achievement and eight academy awards nominations.
But still, the italian translations sucks not only in terms of tones (Ennis sounds much more likeany sexy deep voiced male - ridicolous) but also in terms of language.
How can you translate "I ain't no queer" with something that means "I'm not like this" (Io non sono coś).
And still, the movie is rated 14+!
-
Hmmmm, I wonder which audience the trailers were addressing: the first one, and then the second 'revised' one ??
