In simple terms, neither Ledger, Gyllenhall nor director Ang Lee have made a better film, which is about as high as praise gets. It really is that good. An exquisitely acted, subtle tale that gives a strange sense of hope as it simultaneously breaks your heart. January 6 may be a little too early to declare this ‘film of the year’, but there won’t be many better than Brokeback Mountain in 2006.

What a great review! Hopefully that will get BBM off to a good start in the UK.
