Title: Insert images using [img][/img]
Post by: *Froggy* on Apr 23, 2006, 08:31 AM
Hi all...  this is a tutorial to try and post links using web based hosts and more:

http://imageshack.us/
http://www.photobucket.com
etc...

First:  You found a picture you like, you need to save it first to your computer if you want to upload it on a web based host.

Right click on the picture, go down to save as,

You name your picture and make sure it's a JPEG format and not a BMP (bit map) bit map are too big and take forever to upload to your picture host.

Second:  Upload to your picture host, I used photobucket for this tutorial and I recommend it since it's user friendly and free but like any picture host, you need to register an account.

1,  Click on the browse button

2, A new window will open, click on the picture you want to upload and click on the open button

3, You see a check mark on the left side of the first box with the name of you picture over the box, you could rename it if you want.  Then Click on upload

4, Your picture is now hosted and ready to be posted on forums, you could see in blue the IMG code to be copied, just by clicking on it.

5, You paste the link on the forum... tadam!

Photobucket gives you a ready to post link with the codes.  Other hosts may give you only the URL, or you could copy the URL of a picture without having to host it on the web.

Now to post the actual link of a picture, you need to copy and paste the URL
between the  [ img ] URL [ / img ]

Remember this picture?

Right click on it and go down to properties

Click on properties

this is the URL:  http://www.calendarlive.com/media/photo/2006-01/20873327.jpg

Copy the URL, now you're ready to post it on the forum, you need to high lite the URL and click on the IMG button

Before you post this is what you should see

Code: [Select]

OK...now you test and try ..

nb: if you are posting a picture that is quite big, the option of copying and pasting the IMG code would be best.
Keep in mind that some members still use dial up and big images slow down the uploading of the pages.

Also, if you have posted a picture using the second option (with the image URL) you can resize it like this:

URL[ /img]

or even

URL[ /img]

You have  to high lite your link and click on the IMG button, click on quote, you will see the difference

Can somebody tell me how come when I try to look at pictures on here all I see is a red x?  Is there something I have to download onto my computer in order to see them?  Thanx!   :)

When this happens it's the link that is wrong, there is nothing you could download on your computer.

Does it happen to all the pix or just some of them? If it is just some of them, it could be the links no longer working.

If there are no pictures at all, it could be the setting of your browser. Let us know if we can further help.

I think it is pictures posted a long time ago, and the image host has deleted the link now.
Or sometimes it can occurs when the image host has technical difficulties, and it is temporary.

pierralex is right.

If you could post some link to the posts which you can't see the pix, we can help verify.

Well on most pages in the "Misc Pics" thread some pictures show and other ones just have a red x.  And even when I right click on the red x and choose "show picture" it still doesnt work.   :s)

Ethan what a great website, thanx!!!!!   :^^)  I fixed my browser to show pictures so hopefully that'll fix the problem.

Not unless I have some blocking software on my computer that I dont know about, it said sometimes it can block anything that isnt text.  Do you know any software that does that so I can check and see if I have it?  Thanx!!!!   (:)

One question - what kind of browser are you using?

Is there anyway to upload pictures (jpegs) directly from your computer to the forum without going through Photobucket, etc.?

In order to conserve the forum server space and bandwidth, uploading images directly to the forum is disabled.

We understand the extra step is inconvenient but it is really a big help!!

Anybody can upload pictures, but you have to set up an account on some pic-storing site first (most people choose photobucket: http://photobucket.com/ (http://photobucket.com/)). Then upload pics from your computer to photobucket, and post them here using the links provided by photobucket. It's quite easy really

For the Photobucket users there is a new thread since they changed their webpage look, click here (http://www.ennisjack.com/forum/index.php?topic=17078.msg1062916#msg1062916)
