Where can I find on line the original short story
« on: Mar 25, 2008, 02:05 PM »
Just finally saw this movie this past weekend and it is fantastic, it's not like what you have expected from what they called this movie in the press.  It was a wonderful story and indeed makes an impression on you.  I would love to read the original story, does anyone have a source?

Hello Pirate.

The Story is now part of Proulx's collection entitiled: "Short Range".  BBM is the last story.

You can also now get it as a separate book.   Most of the major bookstores will carry both the stand-alone book and "Close Range"

As for an online version, I don't think there is anything free.  But the original (older) 1997 version is still available online:

It lacks the opening and closing dream sequences of the final version.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but in the rush to read it I found it buried in a blog on Rotten Tomatoes website.  It is the same as the link you posted.  What dream sequences, was that published in the New Yorker as well? :c)

Thank you so much Thomas for this!!! Now I have the book in Spanish and this original English version saved in Word!!  The closing dream sequence is here. It only lacks the opening. Too bad, cause the opening sequence is totally beautiful and heartbreaking.

Actually we can't host any link for a ""free online" full version due to copyrights.

Thanks Tammy.  Yes, the closing dream sequence is indeed there.  :)

And Cham is right.  There were a number of sights before that were closed on account of copyright issues...
