What label of sigarette Ennis smokes?
« on: Apr 21, 2006, 04:07 PM »
That scene, where Alma jr is coming on visit, Ennis smokes, but what label? And sorry if this is posted allready.

The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

The package he puts in his pocket is "Camel."  I checked with R. J. Reynolds, the maker of Camel cigarettes, and filter Camels were available in the early 60's.  It's odd to me, however, that he was smoking a filter cigarette.  Allan

Oh, when Ennis was putting the number 17 on the mail box, it was in the 1980s. That was more than 20 years after Brokeback Mountain and herding sheep up there.
(Ennis) is suffused with a sense of pleasure because Jack Twist was in his dream . . . lets a panel of the dream slide forward . . . it might stoke the day, rewarm that old, cold time on the mountain when they owned the world and nothing seemed wrong.

Yes, but he puts a pack pf Camels in his pocket when he getting ready for the 1st fishing trip (I think that's when the pack shows up.  I know that it's fairly early in the film)  Allan

Oh, I think that the cigarettes that Ennis smoked in May 1963 were the roll your own type. But, that's so far back that I don't remember what the brands of loose tobacco would be.

In the posted pic, the green spot on the paper below the filter did indicate what brand it was.

I know its off-topic for this thread, but, I wonder how they got all of the whiskey to drink up on Brokeback Mountain. Was it a part of the provisions that was picked up every Friday?

Whiskey probably was given to them every Friday with their provisions.
