SLANG CITY
« on: Jul 23, 2006, 10:09 AM »
I found  this site on the internet
and found it very intresting..and funny-
The original quote, with slang  // What does it mean?....a slang dictionary for BBM..of some kind.. ^*()
I think that I saw a mention of a slang from BBM,but I'm to lazy to look for it...sorry
your thoughts?

okay, I know I shouldn't be laughing or anything, I feel like such a horrible person right about now, but THIS was just too much: 'You are too much for me Ennis, you horrible person!'

What about this one?

Honestly, I didn't know we were going to be romantic partners again. Oh, that's a big lie!

Thank you so much, HPV. Fantastic link

Yeah, thanks for this link, hpv. Too funny!

This would make a great video to post on youtube -- i.e. with the 'translations' as subtitles -- complete with the explanatory note *bitch is an insult usually used for women   ;D ;D ;D

I love this one . . . . It's just so far removed from what Jack and/or Ennis would ever say.

What does "roughneck" mean?
I'm sure someone knows what "roughneck" means in this context.  Ennis's sister married a roughneck.  Junior's boyfriend Kurt works in the oil fields (I think) and is a roughneck.

Thank you.  Curious minds want to know...  :s)

I inadvertantly deleted a topic while I was trying to merge it here.  So I'll just repost it for the OP (not 100% sure who he/she is...)  -- the question was, what does "Roughneck" mean -- here it is!

Thanks, dirtbiker!  I thought it was a more generic term, like any of various blue-collar workers, but it would appear in BBM context to mean in the oil industry.  Though people sure have used the word to mean a rough/fighting guy type of person, yes?

Here's what wikipedia says:

Roughneck (or ruffneck) is a slang term for an unskilled or slightly skilled labourer in a number of industries. In particular, is the official name of a semi-skilled role on a North American oil rig.

I'm sure you've figured it out by now, hpv.  You just needed to log in again.  That really bugs me.  I say "Forever" for session time, but it always cuts me off, often while I'm in the middle of some long post.
