We have talked a lot about Ennis complex character before and,even about the differences between how he's introduced in the movie and in the short story.But I think that,with time's passing perspective,now it's a good moment to try and analyse these differences:They say that Ennis in the movie is rather more closed in himself than the one in the s.s.;even some scenes,such as the one with the riffle that Jack wanted to give him,have been deleted in order not to show him so rough with Jack to hide his feelings for the fear that someone else knew it.
But,at the same time,we see him in the movie as a man with a greater easiness to cry,maybe because his feelings are more hidden,more repressed,at the point of exploding at the end,as in the confrontation scene.Ennis' s short story,by his side,is more talkative in general,and also,of course,about this feelings about his lover(see,for example,the scene in the motel and compare them).More stoic,maybe,in his way to show his inner struggle,he doesn't "explode"; as if his way of behaving was more following a line,without so many ups and downs...What is your opinion about this,then?How do you see both ways of introducing the character and his differences?.
