OT: I can remember some things about which I completely changed my mind (180o)... (BTW; I miss orangetruck - he used to inspire some discussions a lot... Tony too... :-\\)

OT: yes!  I miss orangetruck!  I should send him a note or else ask someone in touch with him to send him a note...

Yes, I was speculating whether Jack should have asked for his mother's help in convincing Ennis to come to LF.  After all, he did talk about Ennis many times to his parents (OMT's comment is proof of it.)

I somehow think that the relationship would have endured and worked out had Mrs. Twist intervened...
Yes,you're right.I think what Ennis needed is the "cover" of a family life to convince himself that living with another man would be possible.Mrs.Twist was the best accomplice for her son's love and confidences,so it wouldn't be rather difficult for her to be it once again if Ennis had gone to their ranch.By speaking with him even, firstly, and by giving them some "respectability" image with her presence, after that,if you see what I mean...
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”
("If I asked")

I really think that the relationship would have endured had there been open support from at least one other person -- Ma Twist would have been a good candidate.    I really hope Ennis didn't just cut her off after the visit to LF.  I would like to think that inevitably, he would have somehow stayed in touch -- although the 2 years after the visit seemed to have been spent in total isolation...
