I think Jack certainly didn't stop loving Ennis even after the final confrontation. I think that if we disregard his encounters with other men, we could even say that he was more abiding as far as the dream of a sweet life was concerned. To be sure, I think Jack was more faithful in clinging to that dream -- even though as years passed, it became clear that the dream had little chance of being fulfilled.
