Well, I think that Jack was a little bit past denial.  With Ennis, I am sometimes unsure whether he ever got out of it.  I think a part of him did -- the part that acknowledged his love for Jack.  But I don't a part of him understood the depth of that love until it was way too late.

agreed....Jack accepted it sooner but he knew how Ennis was and so dint wana come strong on him after FNIT...if Ennis would not have gone to him in SNIT..then Jack would have approached him for sure the next day or the other...that time I feel Ennis would have been himself as a major part of him wanted Jack...

Thanks smartestsonia.

Nonetheless, had Ennis NOt gone into Jack's tent that night, I am sure that it would have somehow devastated Jack -- he would look at it as a rejection of sorts.  The closest possible parallel I could think of would be the post-divorce fiasco.  As in this case, I am sure Jack would have tried to hide his disappointment and hurt -- and continue to keep trying...

I think too he would have felt devastated,rejected...; but he was smart enough as to understand Ennis reasons. And constant enough too as to keep on trying, keep on "winning" Ennis attention day after day.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

I agree.  Ennis was too central to Jack for him to let such setbacks get in the way.  If there is anything we have to appreciate about Jack, it is his TENACITY, in contrast to Ennis's FAITHFULNESS.

I agree only in part.Because you remark Ennis's faithfulness as his main characteristic, and a little in contrast with Jack's.I wonder who of them was really more faithful;yes,if we take faithfulness as a mere physical relationship with someone who isn't our partner, undoubtedly Ennis was more. But,wasn't Jack more faithful in a more complete sense; emotionally, sentimentally, mentally and living speaking?.Sorry for being  *o) .

I think both of you are right, even though I lean towards Jack because Ennis had his heart and soul.  He never could've belonged to anyone else.  *o)

Very interesting point, MPJ.   And I do agree with you, atalley.

I think Jack certainly didn't stop loving Ennis even after the final confrontation.  I think that if we disregard his encounters with other men, we could even say that he was more abiding as far as the dream of a sweet life was concerned.  To be sure, I think Jack was more faithful in clinging to that dream -- even though as years passed, it became clear that the dream had little chance of being fulfilled.

I agree,Atalley¡  No matter how many times Jack could have make sex with another men-even with Randall-; Ennis was the only one he had made love with.

Thank you,Sonia¡  :^^) Yes,it's true because it's Jack's faithfulness sense,more real in the end,at least IMO.
