Twisted, I love the last shot.  Yes, I do love this scene.  It is light-hearted -- not a hint of heaviness.  It is not as great as the other scenes like the dozy embrace or even the SNIT, but this scene is all light and happiness. :)

Yes, it was so happy scene, nothing to worry about.  Even the sheep were good ;)

I remember an early post citing this as one of the scenes someone disliked.  I admit that the first time I saw the movie, I was a bit taken aback by the Jack's bravado.  But since then, this scene has never failed to make me smile.  It lightens my heart to see this scene.  It is the first true joyful scene that both of them share with each other.

OOT: I am posting poems for some of them in the pix and poems thread.

Everytime I watch this scene  it makes me smile , I agree with you tpe it's the first true joyful scene and the I think that  the look they exchange few instants before makes this scene more more intense, I guess it's their first look in which you can see "the love", sexless but so intense ( as the flashback  scene, my favorite one).

For the first time they look llike boys rather than men, just having fun and being silly. Reminds you that they're only nineteen and makes you think how lfew times in their lives they've been able to be unselfconscious and enjoy themsellves.

Indeed.  This is one of the scenes where their love and affection was "sexless".  It is so close to Whitman's ideal.  Whitman would have written poems about BBM, I'm sure.

I agree also, that this scene is even better because of what was just before -- the whole thing of Ennis getting all chatty, and the looks exchanged, and smiles...and then Ennis, to me, seems to be overtly challenging Jack when he says, "my dad said all rodeo cowboys was f*ckups," intentionally to get a rise out of Jack.  So, yes, indeed, this entire little scene is so heartwarming.  Jack may have had pals to horse around with from time to time in his earlier teen years, but I almost can't see Ennis having any pals like this.  And that, Ennis having a friend, as much as anything makes me so happy for Ennis...with the added bonus of their having acted on physical attraction and found it more than just a one-shot thing.

This scene is particularly revealing when you count the very few times we see Ennis smile when he is with Jack.  When they're together, they are always in more serious moods ( excepet for the horse-play when Aguirre is spying on them).  Sometimes I wish there were more scenes showing them together on their outings -- just horsing around, playing ( not necessarily sexually).

One of the most beautiful is during the first reunion scene (You know it can be like this...) 

One of the most quiet and satisfying: after "you'll run them sheep off again..."

The most hearbreaking: when he shows a glimmer of a smile after Jr. declares her love for Kurt and tells him of the wedding arrangements.

I know, me, too.  They could be getting drunk by the fire and playing cards or something.  And they smoked pot that time, and they could have made that a funny scene.  In other words, besides sex, and not-fishing, what the heck did they do for a whole week in the mountains a couple/few times a year?  I would be taking hikes, lots of cooking and eating, reading, playing games, talking, drinking at night (when I drank).  We didn't see much, so we have to figure out what they did, besides ride their horses around.

Beautifully observed tpe. The acting in this movie is so exquisitely preformed. So little dialog  the actors were forced to use their bodies and faces to express what needed to be expressed.

There was some open space between what he knew and what he tried to believe, but nothing could be done about it, and if you can't fix it you've got to stand it.

Ennis, riding against the wind back to the sheep in the treacherous, drunken darken light, thought he'd never had such a good time, felt he could paw the white out of the moon.

Nother favorite of mine is when  Ennis visits Jack's parents and Jack's mom acknowledges that she knows who Ennis really is and "guides" him to the shirts. S he was almost waiting to help him place them into the bag as if she knew they were for him and that he was meant to have them.All this in front of the ol man . It brought a sad smile to my face. Unforgettable.
