My favorite scenes are when they started out taking the sheep to pasture.  You get the sense of Ennis cautious nature, and Jack self assured persona.   You begin to see it when Ennis warns Jack about the Phillie's low startle point, and Jack's comeback about doubts if there's a Phillie that could throw him, and for Ennis to get moving.   You're trick into believing who will be ruling this working relationship, after all Jack's done it before and he knows the ropes.

But ever so slowly you begin to see the equalization of the relationship, into trust, into friendship, into love.  This was done without dramatics but as if it was a natural order of things.   Neither men stop it from happening, they couldn't they were becoming more and more a part of each other.

There was another scene when Aguirre informed Jack of his sick uncle, and Acquire already seeing the both together, raised his binoculars to look at Ennis among the sheep.  Jack knew then they were spied on, but the expression was of protectiveness to me and not fear.  IMO.

Notice when Aguerre was on the phone... when he said NO the first time, Ennis looked at Jack.  When he said NO the second time, Jack looked at Ennis.  THis was beautiful direction by Ang Lee... early warning signs of a doomed relationship, even though they were still strangers in this scene.

Many people like the reunion scene.  But Heath was so rough that Jake said later he almost broke his nose.  Now when I see the scene I see so much pain in Jake's face.  He was hurt and hurt badly.  It should have been redone.  Aggressively passionate is possible without breaking someone's nose and putting them in pain.

I love the hug and the hands and the bodies going back and forth, but can we please kiss Jake without hurting him.

I like the scene where Ennis's arm is around Jake in the tent.  We needed all we could get of Ennis's love for Jake.  This to me removes all doubt.

SNIT is one of my favorite scenes.   The hands had to tell the passion.   Jack's carressing Ennis's face and bringing him closer to kiss him for the first time.   Ennis's hand exploring Jack's body.   Hands cupping the face, bringing it closer, not letting go of each other.

The love scenes in this movie, including the FNIT, the hands showed the love and passion for each other, something non verbal, not explicit but unmistakable.

Which is why I love the dozy embrace and my favorite line is the very brief " See you in the morning."

I love your elaboration about their glances in Aguirre's trailer being punctuated by Aguirre's NOs.  Indeed, I had noted the glances before but had never until now connected them with the NOs.  Thank you.

"See you in the morning." does seem to take the place of my favorite line, which never makes it to the movie: "Let be, let be."

I just wish we had those deleted and extra scenes that we only see in stills.

I just love Ennis and Jack forever!
Aren't we at the stage these days when it just doesn't ... matter? It's a story of love and it's a story between two people. If people can't get over that and just accept it as a story, then that's their problem. I'm big enough and brave enough to do it. - Heath Ledger on doing BBM

Yes, how I wish we had all the deleted scenes -- especially the ones where they are together.  But you said it: the SNIT, the Dozy Embrace, and the Reunion Scene are the great scenes where we feel that they were most happy.

Most themselves as two people in love too, maybe. Is that when you're happiest, when you're most yourself with someone else who accepts you as yourslef and when you do the same for the other person?

Yep these three scenes shows that they do indeed complete each other. Leaves no doubt that they are in love with each other.
SNIT ( my fav)  to me is a culmination of all that has transpired so far. Now they are both sure that love has found them, and they both embrace it. An acknowledgement that something "special" has taken place between them.I can watch this scene all day long and never tire of it.  "sigh"....

Most definitely, Its seeing you at your worse, and still loving you, warts and all.

I do think my most favorite scenes are those when they were happiest.  But the Dozy Embrace was embedded in perhaps the saddest portion of the film -- so the feeling I get from the Dozy Embrace is bitter-sweet, by association with the confrontation scene.

Of the 3 mentioned, I admit that the Dozy embrace is my greatest love.  Perhaps because the context in which it appears is not entirely happy.  Sometimes, we are happiest when we catch a glimpse of sadness just around the corner -- do you know what I mean?

Everything about the SNIT.
  1.  Ennis deciding to go into the tent.  Heartthrobbing.
  2.  How they made Jake look like Elvis, very handsome, very sexy
  3.  My favorite kiss and favorite Jake body in the movie... Jake on top.

Yeah...very brief but it says volume in their relationship, especially from Ennis.

I love those scenes too. Though I've moved from the "swooning/awwww" phase in SNIT and the reunion to crying through them because they are just such beautiful moments in their lives/relationship. Like Thomas, I was always more partial to the Dozy Embrace- that scene shows them so comfortable with each other and the love that exists. But then it turns bittersweet when we see that it is a moment that Jack held onto- a love that never met it's full potential.
“What Jack remembered and craved in a way he could neither help nor understand was the time that distant summer on Brokeback when Ennis had come up behind him and pulled him close, the silent embrace satisfying some shared and sexless hunger."

Oh, that makes me cry, too, what you said -- the beauty and peace of the scene but it's really bittersweet.  The DE scene is even more meaningful and significant because it is in Jacks POV.  What he is mourning the loss of...

And almost at that point, I think, the life that he might have had. Cwertainly when he looks back on the DE, this must have colored his memory of it.

I do think that the memory of the DE at that critical time in Jack's life was Jack's way of saying goodbye to the hope that it stood for.  It was as if he wanted to remember how it was, above all else that happened after it.

Hello again, tpe¡I agree with you because sometimes the only good  thing we have is the souvenirs, and that´s what Jack had in that moment.I´m not very original, but also one of my favorite scene is the SNT;all in it is tender but also erotic. The discover of love in Ennis, the way Jack looks at him(wow, the look of Jack/Jake¡).But also I like a lot another scene that is not spectacular, not even decisive;the morning after SNT, when both of them are playing, happy and in love, and Aguirre is spying them. The brutal difference between their innocence and the outer society, represented by Aguirre, that can destroy all this happiness with its evil talk,is almost appalling for me.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

The SNIT is the great love scene in the movie, in the traditional sense, no?  It is a wonderful pendant to the Dozy Embrace.  One is the portrait of erotic love; the other is the vision of platonic desire.  In an old theory that I have, I envision the DE as Jack's moment of agape, prior to his eventual death -- just as the SNIT is the moment of physical consumation.  Both speak more eloquently when compared with each other.

my favourite scenes are when they see each other the next evening after spending the first night together when ennis says this is a one shot thing we got going on here jack looks so lovely laying on the grass .
the one where ennis goes in the tent jack is so loving in that scene .
where they meet again after 4 years and kiss .when they go camping wher jack strokes ennis;s face then runs his fingers through his hair.
oh yes where jack tirns up at ennis;s place after recieving the card from ennis about the divorce that was very sad.

there last meeting was the saddest when ennis says get the f--- of me and jack says dam u ennis and ennis says i cant stand this no more jack and jack drifts back 20 years to happier times
well that is most of the film.but these are my favourites.
if time were not a moving thing if i could make it stay this hour of love we share would allways be

The post FNIT encounter: I think this is certainly one of the great BBM scenes, but it is so full of tension and uncertainly, no?

The last meeting -- for me, it is the most emotional scene in the entire movie, especially when juxtaposed with the Dozy Embrace.

yes i agree after that first night there was tension and definately a lot of not knowing what was going to happen next even though i think they probaly knew from that moment something was going on even when ennis said this is a one shot thing if ennis didnt know i believe jack knew he wanted more .

the last meeting gets me every time especially when jack grabs ennis and they fall to the floor.

the scene where he finds the two shirts- most powerful moment for me. Ennis finaly realized what he have lost and also the impact of the emptiness and the understanding of the fact that his one true love is dead, trying to cry but no tears come out.... it is awsome; this moment makes me really sad each time i watch the movie.

Welcome, iamakashiMAN.

Yes, in many ways, this is the crux of the story -- the final pivot that send Ennis and Jack (in spirit, if not in person) on their way.
