That line is probably the most famous line in the movie, correct?  Whether or not this painful scene can be described as a "favorite", there is no denying that it is one of the most memorable in the entire movie.

I think it could be described as a "favorite" although being painful,why not?...Very often,painful and sad scenes are the ones that remain in our minds,but also in our souls;just because they make us vibre,feel,and somehor,BEING ALIVE.

I suppose it was because that line was said in the trailer and it was one of the most powerful lines there that could be heard just when the action in the trailer was getting frenzy.

I have to admit that passion and lust of FNIT also entered my mind with time and that would be the third in my favorite scenes. The part where they press foreheads to each other is 

FC is too painful for me, but it is absolutely of of the most powerful scenes, and each time Jack holds broken Ennis I feel a mixture of sadness and warmth in my heart. Jack's reaction to comfort Ennis as always, even hurt himself too is very moving. :\'(

DE for me is not so comforting, coz in my pessimistic mind I always see the lost chances, the world they had in front of them in 1963., 20 years of struggle for a sweet life and the ultimate tragedy which is to come after FC. So, in a way, DE also hurts me a lot...

Perfect description of the effect of Last Confrontation and DE on each other.  In many ways, I think one should take both as a single entity, because each one gains so much power and meaning because of the other.

The 2 related scenes are so hard to watch, but for me, they are the most significant and meaningful scenes in the entire movie.

Yes, there is a discussion elsewhere noting that the fireworks and Ennis's pose may have been a reference to some other well known wester film -- or at least a deliberate act of the director to make Ennis look like a heroic character in the old western style.

I do feel fortunate  that I watched the film with my mom ….. As u sais, Jack was hurting so much himself but seeing Ennis hurting so much he went and embraced him because he could not see Ennis in pain..He knew what fears Ennis had been fighting with..And then when the DE happens it shows us as to what they had and now because of so many years of disappointments and hurt what has become..

As to your question, I think Ennis was too emotinoal and vulnerable and all sorts of thoughts must be popping in his head..He must be thinking that he has always been with Jack and Jack went after other men but he must be also thinking that why Jack did that…He knew that Jack always wanted to be a more active part of his life and he shows his vulnerable side to Jack...He must be wondering what Jack must be thinking and what next...Well these r all assumptions in my head and I may be wrong but I do feel he had a moment of the past many times like how Jack had the Dozy Embrace..One time Ennis definitely had a moment of the past was as we see in the final scene when he sees the shirt…That was a moment of the mountain and all the memories of Jack in his mind and heart...

It gives us a glimpse of the love they shared when they were young, when they were full of life..Then came years of struggle of forbidden love…Then came years of rejection as well as years of pain and then came final confrontation when the hurts reached to its exhaustion..In the midst of all that came the Dozy Embrace..a reminder of what was there and still there but filled with a lot of pain and disappointment..

The FNIT was very intense for me too...When I watched BBM in strart of 2008, I dint have the DVD and I watched it online..Now when I watched it on this site, the FNIT was shown very dark there and I could not see anything whats happening..I was like wondering as to what is going on because there was utter darkness and then came the next scene when they wake up and Ennis left on the horse..I was trying to figure out as to what happened in the FNIT...I mean, I understood that they became intimate but as I could not see anything I dint understand the impact..The next day when I watched the film on another siite, I was stunned because I had never seen such a scene before..It was not about love making only..I have seen that before but it was about the impact of raw love and how it made Ennis and Jack become one in a moment, forever..It was as to how Jack just grabbed onto Ennis and showed him that he wants him and Ennis did the same..We were seeing their love buidling on BBM before that scene and when that scene takes place, its like going with the flow in the most passionate way...

Yes, they are different sides of the same coin.  And the contrast could not be greater. 

The interesting thing is that in the movie, we see Jack remembering this during Ennis's collapse in the Last Confrontation.  But in the short story, it seems to happen later, after Ennis had left.  Do you get the same impression? 

I think the movie's decision to embed the DE into the Last Confrontation increses the power of the latter and gives the DE more timely significance, by way of contrast.

SNIT is more tender as it shows Jack that Ennis is willing to come to him whole heartedly and Jack also knew Ennis fears and how much courage he took to come into the tent..Jack thus dealth with him with the utmost delicate gestures..That is the beauty about SNIT..

As for Reunion scene it was an expression of love and repressed emotions of 4 long, long, long years and how coud it not be as explosive as it was..Its like a bottle kept tight for 4 years which wanted to explode and then the lid opened and the stuff in the bottle just gushed out..

The scenes so lovely expressed in your words, where they are together in a close, intimate way are too rare and that is the reason why we love and cherish all those scenes so dearly. But aside that, those scenes are beautiful and magnificent indeed IMO. If not, would I say that SNIT is my favorite love scene of all times, of all the movies? It has a magic I have never seen before (or after). 

I'd trade any other love scene for that 3 minutes of pure magic. ( ( (

DE is also a touching expression of their pure love when they were young. That would be my 4. and motel scene no 5!
