Topic: Dinner and a movie! Your treat.

What if you could treat any  one character in the film to Dinner and a Movie  one time  Who would you choose? where would you take them to eat?  McDonald's?  or an expensive resturant?  A bar? and what movie would you  choose take them to see?

My choice of course has to  be Ennis Del Mar. He is the one I'd invite to dinner .  At, home
 I'd make my famous spagetti for em ( sorry folks SECRET recipe ) as he seems a home-cookin kinda person as well as a homebody.  and so am I. Does'nt like crowds. comfortable talking in small group/ private one to ones  That's Ennis and I relate.

What movie? I think he'd like a good Eastwood movie. Seems an Eastwood  movie kind of a guy to me.  (Maybe it's the cowboy hat pulled down low?)   Anyway, wether it's Dirty Harry or Pale rider, I think he go for it. So would I.

 Underneath that hard exterior is a thoughtful person. I'd get to know more....How about you? Who's your date?

Well, Jack of course! Maybe if i could stand long enough i'd cook for him - might involve quails' eggs in aspic, sea bass in some form, guinea fowl and something to do with raspberries or a chocolate ice-cream bomb. On the other hand it might just be a quick sarnie on the way to ......

I would take Jacks's mum to dinner at some nice restaurant and go see a movie that would put a smile on her face or better still take her to see an onstage production, nothing beats a live performance for enjoyment.

Jack -- he wasn't the restaurant type.  To treat him, one must go to a bar, where alcohol would be the mainstay and food an afterthought.

Well of course I'd take Jack out.  I'm not exactly too swift with cooking ( I can bake though) so I wouldn't subject him to that.  I'd take him down the shore to my favorite restaurant there (though as tpe points out he's not the restaurant type- I'd make it to go  ) I'd watch The Wizard of Oz with him- it's my favorite movie and I think we'd have fun singing all of the songs together.  (of course my mind is wandering now imagining spending time with Jack.....)

Well, I'd get Ennis in the old pickup and head to the drive-in for a screening of Hud (1963) with a coupla' hot dogs  and a few beers and pretzels. None of those stupid beach movies, something with fast driving, shooting, and bar fights - 'course some good looking guys too. Wouldn't have to talk much, but if we did no one would hear us (or see us).

 Great picture Jackster. Paul Newman, one of my fav actors, and Brandon DeWilde who as I remember played the little boy in the movie Shane with Alan Ladd where one the most greatest barfights in movie history took place. He looks a little older here though.  Excellent choice.

After I get done wineing and dining Ennis, I'd take Jack out. Take him to an amusement park for a date. We'd slop down hot dogs  and Slush Puppies ( I know . I know it aint good for ya , I know , but it;s my treat... hee, hee)! and ride all the daring rollercoasters and those rides that drop you at heart-stopping speed, so I'd have reason to hold on to him real tight. :*(probably throw up on each each other! but it'd be fun! Afterwards I'd take him to a bar ,get drunk, get rowdy , get thrown out LOL!

 After that I'd invite him to my house and  we'd fall asleep  on the couch watchin Chiller ,thriller theater  or some other good scary movie.  He seems like a very fun date.

I'd like to take Jack to some of my favorite places down the shore. To Sunset beach to gather up the Cape May "diamonds" and I'd love to share a sunrise with him on the beach.

I'd take Ennis to dinner at Andria's -- a famous steak place near my home, then to see all four parts of Lonesome Dove.  I know he could relate to that movie ( one of my favorites), and, as intense as he is, he wouldn't get bored.  He would appreciate the fine characterizations offered by all the major actors in the movie.  I think he'd love it  Now, if it were Heath I was taking to the movies, we would go see The Curse of the Gollden Flower -- the most beautiful movie I have ever seen in my life.  Judging from the videos Heath has produced, I recognize a real appreciation of visual beauty.  He would be entranced by this movie, as was I.  We'd have a great conversation about the art of bringing beauty to the screen, even in the midst of stories that are sad, horrible, maybe even hideous.

I'd take Ennis to Trinity Brew Pub in Providence, have chili, nachos, and a burger and some of the best local brew there is.  Stop off to pick up a bottle of Wild Turkey on the way home, set up some glasses, some home-rolled, and watch The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which he would love, and follow that up with a French movie (with subtitles) called Clan [French title] or Three Dancing Slaves [English speakers title] (three brothers, two are definitely gay and into capoeira (Brazilian slave-fighting/dancing), and the third, straighter, bro helps the middle shave the youngest down where so very few men shave...  <sigh>, no we don't get to see the procedure, just the result, <sigh>  the imagination anyway can be prompted to be so much more erotic than merely watching someone else do it... <tffffffffftt, steam heat>  Oh yeah, um, that's what I'd do with where I'd take Ennis, to start.

With Cassie: it must be a place with a dance floor, definitely.  And it seems that she liked wine, so it must be trendy and a bit fancy. 

Wherever one Takes Ennis, it need not have a dance floor -- he wouldn't notice the difference!

Jack would possibly like different kinds of places -- from the most seedy dives, to places with some pretensions to elegance, perhaps.  Even though he wasn't the restaurant type, he was clearly more social.  And he certainly was not out of his element in places with shadier reputations (pick-up places, hole-in-the-wall establishments, and so forth.)

As to a movie, anything BUT cerebral.  And perhaps NOT too emotive.   None of them would have probably felt comfortable in a film similar to BBM on first viewing -- and not just because of the subject matter!

I'll take young Jack to any restaurant of his choice on his birthday.  Maybe some steak and lobster bar and grill.  Jack ain't the restaurant type?  Yeah right.  That's because he was never treated to one.  We'll start with some cocktails, then the main entre, then the dessert, then more cocktails and a few shots of whiskey for Jack.  And movie, the hell with movies, here in Vegas, I'll take him to a live show.  Maybe an all-male show.  And yes, more cocktails for Jack please.  After the show, Jack will be a little drunk and a little horny and a bit beat.  That's when I'll take him home, eventhough there's plenty room on the back of my pick up. 

For Father's Day, I'll take Ennis out to an old rustic bar and grill.  Of course he can order anything he likes.  Then I'll take him to some western show and maybe a horseback ride along some canyons.  Then I'll take him shopping for some new furnature.

For Mother's Day, I'll take Mom Twist to an elegant restaurant.  Don't think John Twist ever treated her to anything before.  She can enjoy all the things she ever wanted that she won't find in Lightning Flat or the rest of Wyoming for that matter.  Then I'll take her to see some musical for entertainment.  Then I'll take her to a salon where they'll give her a complete make-over and then we go shopping.  You better look out John Twist!!

Great post tpe. Taking Ennis out would have to be well thought out. Dance floors, Mexican foods, and karaoke with  bad harmonica playing, is off limits though he might be talked into a slow dance but forget line-dancing and doing the twist with him in public , unless I get him 3 sheets in the wind drunk first.

 It would have to be a place without crowds, maybe a nice club that serves dinner. The Sizzler is out , but someplace like The Roadhouse Bar and Grill  down the road from my house would be nice.They serve up hearty western fare  such as steaks, beans and apple pie of course. It's like stepping into one of those saloons you see in old western movies. Perfect.

 The movie I'd take him to go see would be Shane, with Alan Ladd. It's just so  Ennis to the max. The little kid, (Brandon DeWilde) even resembles Ennis as a child imo.

Ennis seemed to have gone for plain cooking -- something you would expect at a diner, perhaps.  Apple pie.  Meat and potatoes.  Bottles of beer.

Jack would have probably had more adventurous tastes.  And he did seem to have adopted his ways to the South -- witness the turkey swimming in a sea of gravy.  I wonder whether later in life, he became more of a restaurant type.  But he probably would have appreciated drink the most.

Hence, for Ennis, a simple diner.

For Jack, any place that served liquor!
