Topic: Personal Ad? What would it say?

Now this is something that can be pure specualtion: 
If Jack and/or Ennis were to place a personal ad, what would it say?  Or would they even place one?
Remember the time, place and their situation...
Would they respond to each others ad?

Am gonna have to think on this - the idea came to me, and haven't even thought of an ad myself, lol.

Hello jerasjr.   That's a tough question.  I can't imagine Ennis ever posting a personal ad -- but if he did, he would probably be roundabout and maddeningly indirect.

With Jack, I half-imagine him posting an ad instead of a postcard when he tried to re-establish communication with Ennis after 4 years.  He would have probably alluded to "it's nobody's business but ours" or something very specific to their stay on Brokeback.  Still, I would have guessed that Jack didn't do this because he probably thought Ennis was not the type to read personal ads.

I tend to agree with you tpe - it would be a big step for Ennis to ever create a personal ad, and like you say would not be very direct at all and sounding strictly platonic.  While I don't see Jack getting explicit, do think that a person would get a sense of his more adventurous nature. 
Feel that Ennis ad would be read and forgotten, while Jack's wold elicit another look or two...

The possibility of Ennis writing a personal ad is quite curious.  If he did, I suspect that he would be most certainly round-about.  Maddeningly so.  Or perhaps rife with contradictory signals that would make one hesitate to answer. 

I have seen ads like this (I confess that some of my friends make a sport of it -- unkind as it would appear.)  One gets mixed signals and one is left to drop thr entire matter as either dangerous or pathologic.  I suspect that even if jack read such an ad from Ennis, he would hesitate.  Ennis is someone you must deal with face-on -- that in and of it self is enough of a challenge!

Considering the time and place, I don't think either man would have written an ad.
     However, if we placed them in our world today, I think Jack would have somehow, very surreptitiously, placed an ad for a buddy.  I think Jack was very lonely during the years he was married to Lureen.  All he had to look forward to were the visits with Ennis and they were few and far between.  So, I think he might have advertised for a friend, hoping that friendship would evolve into a relationship.
     Ennis, though, would not have been so forward.  While I think he was the neediest of the two, I don't think he recognized his own neediness, so I don't think he would have tried in any way to assuage it.  I don't think he wanted anyone but Jack, and, when Jack wasn't around, he could stand it and did.  He never went out looking for friendship or anything else. Just my two cents.

I feel the same way.  Jack probably would have found a way to put something out.  Wnnis would have rather died, I think, than be found out in a position of need or vulnerability.  Not that Ennis wasn't aching all along for such a connection...
