My God Lance I thought that I was a very HSP (translation, high sensitive person) but when I read your post I realize that you are a Super high sensitive person! I surfed today to the website of highsensitivity.org and guess what? Heath was a HSP too! The article said that Heath during the promotion of BBM in His hometown Australia cried the all night through because some photographer during the premiere had insulted him and threw water to his face. Poor Heath! He was really too sensitive for the industry and for fame too...

Yes, that was during the BBM premiere in Sydney. A couple of paparazzi had sprayed him with water-guns, you know, those little plastic ones... it was so humiliating >:(. He took it really hard, he said that it broke his heart and totally crushed him. That's also why he finally left Australia - he had a house that he bought there on Bronte beach, he hoped to bring Michelle and Matilda there, but after that incident he told his father to sell the house. His father asked him to give it 48 hours and think it over, not decide on an impulse... then his dad told the newspaper that Heath called him again two days later and said "Dad, it's been 47 hours and 57 minutes. Sell the house".
The truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.

Poor Heath! I didn't know about his house in Australia, and then I search informations... In fact Heath since that he bought this house was continually chased  by paparrazi, the article said that it became an unbearable harassment for Heath! Sensitive or not I think that everyone in those circumstances would have had a nervous breakdown!
you have no idea how bad it gets!!!

Nolan not referencing Ledger in Batman

Director Christopher Nolan decided against referencing Heath Ledger’s character of The Joker in the new Batman film, insisting acknowledging the "real-life tragedy" of the late star was "inappropriate".

"That is something I felt very strongly about in terms of my relationship with Heath and the experience I went through with him on The Dark Knight. I didn't want to in any way try and account for a real-life tragedy. That seemed inappropriate to me. We just have a new set of characters and a continuation of Bruce Wayne's story, not involving The Joker."

This is a link to a blog with different tributes and interviews and stories about Heath. Among them there's Todd Haynes speech when he dedicated the Robert Altman Award to Heath - it's a very emotional dedication, I looked for this video for ages and couldn't find it on youtube, I'm so glad that I found it here. And there is also an interesting interview with Vincent Fantauzzo about working with Heath on his famous portrait. I wasn't sure on which memorial thread to post it, so I'm posting it on both of them.

All the tributes there are very moving, and if you go through the blog archive there are more.

I thought this analysis of "The Patriot" was very poignant:

"Everything is in place for Gibson to die and for Ledger to avenge him, because the whole point of these archetypal tales is to transmit ancestral truths to young people: your father is going to die, so before he dies learn every trick he has up his sleeve, and then raise good children, love your wife and kill the villain. But, because Gibson was a star of greater magnitude than his Australian compatriot, and because Gibson was directing the film, it was the young Ledger, not the middle-aged Gibson, who died. There was something shockingly wrong about this, something that violated the basic laws of drama. Ledger wasn't supposed to die before Gibson died, not in a motion picture, not in real life. It's not fair. It's not right. It's a terrible way to end what was otherwise a very uplifting story."

I agree.. and for this reason I do not like this movie and can't watch it. And the fact that Heath died and Gibson became such an unlikable person is real life just makes it worse for me.

"Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

Dear Heath

Sing loud
Climb high
Dance happy.

We love you.

This is so great, Keren. I envy you and rdx, who visited Perth. One day.  :c)

Time definitely heals. But even when saplings take root where a great tree fell in the forest, they can't take up all the space left empty by the absence of the fallen tree. They can only take solace from the sunlight streaming in, through the window of sky made possible by the absence of the once great tree.

May the warmth of Heath's heart, and the brilliancy of his talents, stay forever in our memory.
Heath, you are loved, like this, always.

Ten years ago your movie made history.
Telling people's stories they never wanted the world to know.
Your reticent laconic performance gave away more secrets than casual observers could know.
Your uptight clenching emotional character made people unfold their heart and blossomed into full lives.
But few knew the knight in shining armour,
the King's officer in red coat and proper trim,
the tough cowboy in jeans and leather,
the joker behind a mask of mirth and anarchy,
was broken and hurting, yearning for a song to sing, a horse to ride, a sky to test his wings.

If only we knew. If only I knew.

😕😢 I wish I knew how to quit you. Seven years, just not long enough to forget. Forever is not long enough. ❤️ Always.

Dear Heath

They say that anger is one of the stages of grief. It took me some years to get to this stage. I'm angry because like your father said, it was your own damn fault. I'm angry that you became so dependent on those pills and you were careless enough to take them all together, even though people had warned you it was dangerous, because you thought that your body could take it. I know you only wanted to sleep but look what happened, you went to sleep and you never woke up. I'm angry because you should have been here and done great things with your life. I'm angry because it's still unbelievable to think that you're gone, and every time I see you on screen looking so alive, it's still hard to believe.
But anger doesn't contradict love. I know you had your flaws and you made mistakes in your life, and there were things that I found hard to accept, but I still love you and I miss you a lot. You're forever in my heart.

The truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.
