of your cocky swagger and your languid stance

with words of your wisdom coming in mid sentence
of your advice to seize the day and live without regrets
of your example to live fearlessly and walk through every door
How does a memory last this long
with tears that always come when you appear
on the television screen or on the printed page
of the work you left behind or tributes of people who knew you when
How does a memory last this long
when forever is not long enough

And how does a poem from you, friend, fill my heart
with joy and tears, make me smile and cry at once
for the loss of the languid stance and deep laughter
for the love of the cocky swagger and smile.
