thanks Tony & RH - here's the brief story from Perth:
Ledger wins SAG award
26th January 2009, 11:30 WST

Heath Ledger’s sociopathic reinvention of Batman villain The Joker in The Dark Knight has earned him the supporting-actor honour at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Ledger’s co-star Gary Oldman accepted the prize on behalf of the late actor at the SAG Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The win puts the Perth-born actor a step closer to becoming just the second performer to win a posthumous Academy Award.

Oscar buzz has been flying over Ledger’s performance since before his death from an accidental prescription drug overdose on January 22 last year.

Earlier this month, Ledger won the best supporting actor Golden Globe and was also nominated for a British Film Award, the UK’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Ledger now looks certain to receive the supporting-actor Oscar on February 22.

Hooray, another well deserved award for our boy ¡ His fellow actors really loved and respect him¡ It couldn't be in another way,however...
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

dear loreen:

Not sure this is worth posting either. As always, just because something is posted on the Internet does not mean there is any value in it. One needs to look at the source, their experience and recognition in their own field, and of course, their basic understanding of what they are writing about. Johannesburg S.A. may be a nice enough town, but a not a major center of the film industry let alone film criticism. People are, as always, entitled to their own opinions, this is mine.

We all know some people will do anything for sensational journalism or to get attention. From those horrible Halloween pizzas, to this man's article, and stuff people say about Barrack Obama, not just during the campaign, but even now.

There is nothing to be done about it except to change these people's hearts to make them see what impact their callous words and actions have on innocent people. It's not an easy task, changing people's hearts, but there are times when it can be done, and there are times when we must ignore it.

Repeating what they say does not help anything or anyone. Making a big fuss over it does not change their hearts, but only gratify their wish for sensationalism.

In my opinion, all we can do is to stand firm, pointing out the absurd behavior and move on. Just as Obama's response to Limbaugh, who accused the President of being afraid of him. Just tell him I said hi. And smile.

These small minded petty people cannot stand it, when we laugh at their absurdity. Laughter and smiles are much more effective weapons than anger.

Thanks so much for posting, Keren.   :^^)

Maddox says it well.  Everything he says is so true.  Maybe a tad understated, in my book, but still very true.

Oh you are so right!  Anger only fuels them, since they are so full of it themselves.  But humor can disarm them.

Naomi about Heath in the new Parade magazine:

Quote
In 2002, while making the Australian film Ned Kelly, Naomi fell in love with co-star Heath Ledger. “I hadn’t really been that familiar with his work,” Naomi recalls. “Then, when I got to the set and did that first scene with him, I was like, ‘Wow! This guy is alive.’ It was just something deep in his eyes. You could look into them, and they would tell a thousand stories in one glance. There was a wonderful mixture of power and fragility at work in everything he did, which just pulls you in. His strength didn’t scare you. It intrigued you. And his fragility touched you.” The couple parted amicably in 2004, separated by the distance of two growing careers, but stayed friends until Heath’s tragic death from an accidental overdose in early 2008. “It’s still incredibly difficult,” Naomi says, her voice trailing off.

Thanks, ynnaf. That's really beautiful quote. I love how she described Heath so perfectly, gentle strength and fragile vulnerability...and so alive. She must have known him really well, really deeply. I can't imagine how she is coping. I am glad she has a new partner, a new career to keep her focused.

Another reminder for me to watch Ned Kelly. I guess I better finish watching it.  :t)

Settlement reached on Heath Ledger's life insurance

Thursday, Jan. 29
http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE50S60220090129

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Heath Ledger's insurance company and lawyers for his young daughter have reached an out of court settlement over a $10 million policy claim on behalf of the girl, an attorney said on Thursday.

Ledger, 28, died a year ago in his New York apartment in what officials ruled an accidental prescription-drug overdose.

But lawyers for ReliaStar Life Insurance Co said they wanted to investigate further before paying out because his death might have been suicide, which would nullify the policy.

Attorney William Shernoff filed a lawsuit in July 2008 on behalf of Ledger's 3-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, over the $10 million he argued was due to her as the beneficiary. After the lawsuit was filed, the two sides negotiated.

"The parties are pleased that they were able to reach an amicable settlement and solve the dispute," Shernoff said.

No details were released on terms of the agreement.

Ledger, who had his daughter with actress Michelle Williams, is Oscar-nominated for playing Batman's enemy the Joker in "The Dark Knight." He was nominated for an Oscar for playing a gay cowboy in the 2005 movie "Brokeback Mountain."

I love what Naomi said about him. Michelle said a similar thing once, how he was so big and strong but so vulnerable at the same time.

This is the tribute from the EW, I scanned the magazine. I know most of you read it online already, but thought people might still like to see what the magazine looked like.
