I heard that Jake was on the set of Brothers and they wrapped up yesterday.  That was probably why he wasn't in Perth.   Someone had mentioned he was at the Sony studios memorial.   (a friend who lives out there  told me)

I think that Jake having to work might have been the best thing for him.  Mentally.   It will take time for him to process all this.  Like for the rest of us.   But even more deeply for him since he was Heath's friend.

Aren't we at the stage these days when it just doesn't ... matter? It's a story of love and it's a story between two people. If people can't get over that and just accept it as a story, then that's their problem. I'm big enough and brave enough to do it. - Heath Ledger on doing BBM

Lovely tribute - and what a great quote that car one was :)

This week i was quite emotional as my tribute to Heath got into UKs Star magazine and they printed my painting i started before he died but when he did, finished it as a tribute. I put my whole heart into the painting and i wrote how everyone will miss Heath and how matilda will have her daddy looking over her always. It was moving to see they had printed it. :\'( To see my painting and magazine cutting go on my face book page and then look in photo album, "other stuff" . Heath miss you... this ones for you. ^f^ Thanks for inspiring me to paint after all these years!...x #)

Just watched the "In Memory" bit of the BAFTAs. For most, they only showed a small clip or just a photo. For Heath, they showed clips from 10 Things, A Knights Tale and Brokeback along with a beautiful picture of him - and when they cut back to the audience there were several folks wiping their eyes and Orlando Bloom looked really upset.

Had to say I was going to bed so my other half wouldn't see me cry.

Esmelily, thank you so much for the link. god, watching it was so strange and surreal and brought the whole thing back. I've been watching loads of Brokeback videos today and not once did it cross my mind that Heath was gone...it still feels as if it were just a dream...

NoReins, do you by any chance happen to have a link to a video of some sort?! Because they unfortunately don't broadcast the BAFTA awards over here ( only the Oscars ). Oh, and I'm glad Atonement won, it has become my third favourite movie :)

I have just uploaded the tribute to youtube. It's the whole tribute - Heath is the last one remembered.

And I agree about Atonement. Wonderful movie.

You're welcome. Yes, it was moving, especially as it was last and a little bit longer than the others, and they played Ennis's "Why don't you just let me be" line before the final photo of him.

I absolutely agree. That was just heartbreaking and oh so SYMBOLIC on so many different levels. One of them being the following: why don't people just let him be?  :\'( :\'( :\'(

Even though Daniel Day-Lewis didn't mention Heath when he received the Best Actor Award at BAFTA, he mentioned Heath again at a press conference backstage:

Absent friends

Day-Lewis - voted best actor for There Will Be Blood - remembered Heath Ledger in a backstage press conference.

He said: "Obviously, if I hadn't already had the occasion of the screen actors' guild awards to dedicate this award to Heath Ledger then Heath would certainly have been a man tonight I would liked to have recognised."

Everybody has their own way to grieve and deal with pain... Jake is doing it in his own way.

I was sad that he was unable to go, apparently.  But you are right: let him do it in his own way.

Heath Ledger (1979 – 2008)
A tribute to the reluctant star, whose finest roles eerily mimicked his all-too-short life

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/18355273/heath_ledger_1979_8211_2008/2

From Issue No. 1046, February 21, 2008

Thank you so much for this, Keren.  Of course, being Rolling Stone, it is exceptionally written.

I can't say the words myself, but I am inordinately gratified that so many have been saying such powerful things about our Heath.

Now I have stinging tears again...
