How about when they're tumbling down the hill before departing, and Jack giggles as Ennis (as it at least seems at one point) tickles him. Before it gets violent, I find it really cute. 

Oh, I love the tumbling about on the hill - so adorable!  And when Jack realizes he's bloodied Ennis' nose, his voice is so tender and caring - "Ennis, Ennis, c'mere, you're all right, c'mere, you're okay" - and the loving expression in his eyes.  Beautiful!  You can tell he just wants to hold Ennis close, and Ennis is trying with everything he has to stay distant - does anyone else get the feeling he's afraid he'll just break down if he melts into Jack's arms at that moment?  :\'(

Oh,yes,completely¡ In spite of his sorrow,Ennis must to maintain his "rough man" image; maybe because he was afraid of not letting Jack go anymore,which would break all his emotional and mental schemes.

Jake was perfect in every way.  I also like the "giggle" rolling down the hill as well as the motherly concern when things turned bad.

I get the feeling that Jack had on Ennis' fav cologne (& vice-versa) in the motel, but it all got mingled w/ sweat, etc.  I also think the sense of smell is important.

And I can also sense an equivalence here to the scene of Alma and Ennis getting married in that both sort of represent the extent of love in each world (life on the mountain with Jack, and life off of it with Alma) that Ennis was allocated. This isn't to over shadow the dozy embrace or any comparably intimate scene; it's to distinguish the nature of love from the pretense of society and of time and place. In other words, in my eyes Jack and Ennis married/complimented each other much more naturally.

In this scene, pre-binoculars, you do sense they were both engaged and that everything was flawless for a moment in time. And that was worth everything in comparison to the cheaper vow off the mountain.

Yes, I do.  We sense it as a sort of Honeymoon, no?  It marked almost an apex -- where desire and happiness meet.  AS with every apex, every other direction points downhill.

aintfoolin, you bring up a point that I think we nebver brought up before in this thread (I think): Jack's goofiness makes him very cute AND sexy.  Come to think of it, this is also very true about Jake in real life -- at least the way I see it.

Very important -- even if we don't actually smell anything in the movie.  But the sense of smell in the movie is VERY important, especially in some of the scenes.  And yes, it is VERY sexy.

So true about Jack..I love him for that..he just followed his heart and he knew that all he ever wanted was Ennis and his whole life is a witness to that..He is really hot and sexy too..very appealing..very warm and passionate..very irresistible...I love the stares he gave to Ennis throughout the film

Oh, gosh, you guys are too much - now I have something else to ponder - I'm imagining the scent in my mind!  I find this so funny because with all AP's descriptions of scent in the SS, my mind didn't go there.  Maybe because she described the scents, especially with Jack.  Not having it spelled out, as it were, makes it more fun to imagine.  I'm thinking cologne, or possibly anti-persperant, or the fantastic musky smell that comes from exertion and a little bit of hard work.

In thinking about Jack and Ennis in the motel scene, I am glad that the director did not dwell on the sordid surroundings (as in the ss).   Jack seeming to smell Ennis's hair is much more effective -- and sexy.

May I also add that Jack's eyes at the start of SNIT was more than enough to express what could not be said.  Had he not said "I'm sorry" or "It's alright", ti would have been the same.  His eyes pretty much say it all.

Yess!! And it's his beautiful eyes so vivid in every situation that makes my heart beat quicker. He express it all with his eyes, so loving, so wide open. His eyes were literally a mirror of his soul. Love you Jack Twist!

Loreen, you brought up a great point that I've never considered before - Jack's eyes, "so wide open" as you put it - we can see that he is walking in to his relationship with Ennis with his eyes wide open - knowing that he loves a man, realizing that Ennis is the love of his life.  Whereas Ennis (and I love Heath so don't get me wrong - I think he's beautiful) tends to have more narrowed eyes - as if he has a much harder time accepting the fact that it is a man he loves - kind of like what AP wrote about the dozy embrace.  And as Ennis ages, his eyes become narrower - I notice them especially in the FC scene - as if he's physically and emotionally shutting himself off from his choices for happiness.

Sure Loreen!  I was confused by so many of the abbreviations too.  FC is final confrontation - their last fight just before the dozy embrace.

I noticed his eyes first time in SNIT, even he had used their charm earlier. Anyway during SNIT my attention was more alert  and at the time I felt like I was invited myself instead of Ennis.(uh, I am trying to find a "blushing" smiley... there isn't one!)  Later, I noticed when they depart after the summer 1963. His eyes were so dear, so forgiving. All his desire to keep Ennis besides him was clearly visualised in his blu eyes. 

Later, In the final quarrel I saw his eyes changed for worse.

These are only few moments, but his eyes were a big part of his role during all the movie.

Well, another sexy scene just came to mind - it's kind of too bad because Jack isn't with Ennis in this one - but I think he's uber-hot when he hits on the rodeo clown.  Something about his smile and sidelong glance - the eyes get me every time.  I particularly noticed his eyes during the Lureen bar scene too.  And the two of them dancing - DROOL
