OT here but important, forgive me mods,
From CNN 13 Nov 2003:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The US Supreme Court Thursday struck down a Texas state law banning private consensual sex between adults of the same sex in a decision gay rights groups hailed as historic.
The 6-3 decision by the court reverses course from a ruling 17 years ago that states could punish homosexuals for what such laws historically called deviant sex.
Legal analysts said the ruling enshrines for the first time a broad constitutional right to sexual privacy, and its impact would reach beyond Texas and 12 other states with similar sodomy laws applied against the gay and lesbian community, and into mainstream America.
Until this ruling it was technically against the law folks. You could be arrested, tried, and convicted. Ain't so long ago. And indeed many thought they were just helping out law enforcement to therefore do violence against those who "broke the law".
It's no coincidence that the case was from Texas.
Thanks, Jackster. I am glad it is now legal all over the US. But I wonder how many people know that, and how many people accept that.
I think most folks in Riverton, including Ennis' in-laws (trying to bring this on topic

) would find the Supreme Court decision immoral but tolerate Ennis anyway for the girls' sake. People don't always act logically or rationally.
By the way, do you suppose Ennis' best man was Don Wroe, the guy's cabin that he and Jack stayed in one summer? Given the way Ennis related how he ended up working Brokeback the summer of '63, and the way he described how he and his brother fought all the time until he beat up on his brother, I suspect there is no love lost between those two, and his brother would not be his best man. I don't think it's Alma's sister's husband, because their outfits don't match.
