And no real words - passion has taken their breath away and words are redundant in the face of such strong desire.

I agree.  There were no words that could have enhanced this scene.  Passion has a way of speaking volumes.

I can't tell you how happy I was when I first saw that scene - didn't know what the reunion was gonna be like, and I already said that it took my breath away, but I was also so happy when Ennis grabbed Jack and kissed him, and then when Jack kissed him back - I thought my heart was going to explode with happiness!!!
The truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.

oh, I completely agree!  I feel like Ang Lee wanted to surprise us, the viewers, as much as Jack himself was surprised by Ennis's enthusiastic greeting.  :)

It's not even just the kissing they do well--it's also the hugging, the nuzzling, the clutching, the grabbing, the caressing . . . . an endless list of skills.  ;)
Yes, and the eye contact, the way they look into each other's eyes, particularly in this scene - and the body language - just everything. It's so utterly convincing, it's almost like peeking at someone else's private moments and forgetting this is a work of fiction. Mindblowing.

That's what I am always so awestruck by, the genuineness of the acting.  These are very subtle things -- not like some guy and babe getting the hots for each other at a disco or something banal like that.  An actor can "act" that easily.  But this seems so not like acting.  Even though we know it is.  This is an unusual falling in love, and their every single look, all the body language, and then, the hugging and kissing and sex and all of it, the pain...it is just amazing and so beautiful.  I know I have said these words before, and you just said them, aimi15 and shieldmaid, so why am I saying them again?  Because I'm a crazed brokeback nut.

The unglamorous setting too - this isn't Hollywood prettied up stuff with moonlight and roses. It's outside the back of a laundrette in a scruffy stair-well. you can't imagine anything more mundane - and the intensity of their passion is even greater in contrast, and more believable.
Yes, and it isn't the camera searching for the best angle to make the two leads look the most attractive - it's very raw, lots of grunting, screwed up faces, squashed noses, you just know Ennis stinks of beer and cigarettes and Jack probably the same, and it doesn't matter - it's a passion, an intense need finally being acted upon.

Cool, aimi.  I'm chuckling at how you said it, but it's true.  It's so raw and real...  Thank you not only Heath and Jake, but Ang and Rodrigo.

Who cares that we are repeating ourselves, because we are able to talk as much as we like about this film here, and thats the beauty of it. I love hearing about people's interpretations of scenes, and you expressed yourself so well here, you are right, it doesnt feel like acting.  Thats what I was blown away by when I first saw it.  I couldnt believe that two actors could portray this kind of longing and loving and passion and make it as authentic, beautiful and REAL as they did. But they did.

Thats the beauty of their acting, that they made it real.

Yep. I've said it many times before, but I'm going to say it again....when I watch Brokeback, I can't see Heath and Jake, I can only see Ennis and Jack. In scenes like SNIT, the reunion and the motel room, I do feel like I'm an intruder, watching something private and intensely emotional from the shadows, hoping that they don't see me. Weird, huh?

Not weird at all.  That's how we all feel. well I do anyway.   The SNIT scene is probably the most intimate, for me anyway, because you have to think that they are on a mountain somewhere with noone else around, just the two of them, alone in a tent, and Ennis has made this life-changing decision to go into that tent, to be with the only person who he has ever felt closely connected with, but he's shy, he's nervous, he's vulnerable - so yes, its a very private and emotional moment.   I think if you watch that and dont feel something stirring in your heart, then I'd say thats what's weird.

Huh. Well, I guess I know a lot of weird people then!

On the subject of the reunion embrace, I lent my DVD to a friend while I was on holiday. She was very unsure about watching it because she said she didn't want to see Jake kissing Heath (she's a Jake fan) but I'm happy to say that she really enjoyed it. I persuaded her to watch it again before she gave it back and encouraged her to make use of the slow motion option on the reunion kiss....she was very impressed with the boys facial expressions, and I think maybe we have a convert O0

I'm glad you encouraged your friend to view the film again. I'm not surprised she was impressed after watching the reunion scene in slo mo.  Whatever was behind her initial reservations about the film, she can't deny how well these two actors performed in this scene.

Speaking of the reunion scene, I was in a retail store getting my PC RAM increased.  The technician needed my password to bring up the system and make some adjustments after the installation of the additional memory.  I forgot that I hadn't changed the background on my front screen.  What does he see when my main screen pops up....the head nuzzle!

Was I embarrassed?  HELL NO!! :8 :8

I was glad I purposely didn't read the short story before the movie.  So indeed, all of it was a big shockingly wonderful surprise to me.  Except I had read articles, and of course everyone talking about it before it came out, so I knew that it didn't have a happy ending...  But all the rest, I liked that I got to see it anew with no idea what was going to happen.  Then I read the story after.

Yeah!  I love when that happens!  So far I haven't converted anyone.  Some of my lesbian friends and some of my gay male friends maybe "liked" it, maybe "loved" it, thought it "important" even, but were not so totally stirred by it -- I always find that odd, especially the men.  One good male friend, though, that I don't see too often, and when I saw him found out he was so devastated, and I told him to come to ennisjack.com...but I don't know if he has.  And of my straight friends, I wish I could totally convert the one that I go out with on Halloween, because we're doing Ennis and Jack, but she's just not into it like I am, doesn't know the whole movie by heart, etc.  She isn't turned on by men together -- that's one difference.  She likes it, she has no problem with it, but it doesn't stir her...  BTW, I'm Ennis and she's Jack.  She's dark-haired but she's the taller one.  Oh god, I'm sorry, OT OT OT -- very sorry.  Bye.

When I want to talk about this movie with friends and feel embarrassed by my passion for it, I always think of Jack wanting to live "a sweet life" with Ennis--he would have been proud to live that life with him, and so should we be, loving a film like this one.  :)  Sorry, OT!  If we all could experience a reunion kiss like this one, we'd never be ashamed of our passions, I think.

A big Ennis-Jack reunion hug of a welcome to you, by the way.  You've come to the right place.

You're so right, the feeling of that scene.  These men are amazing, to be able to give us Ennis and Jack with such a depth of emotion, that we would feel the anxiety and tension as Ennis waits, then feel the relief and excitement when Jack finally comes, then the amazing intensity (to put it mildly) of the hugging and kissing.  So powerful and so subtle at the same time.  Men who cared so much to give us Ennis and Jack that we would love so much...

Jackj had no idea how he would be recieved by Ennis after four fu%#ing years. He redlined it all the way but it must've been a long trip for him, not knowing what to expectA tribute to Jack's hopefull spirit. All the more we want to cheer when he gets the reaction that he does .My,my,my, when Ennis saw him he ran down those steps! The sneaky little look around before he pushes his "little darlin back against the wall and plants the most powerfull kiss on him that I've ever seen in a film.Jack did'nt expect this but must have been soaring insde. The grasping, clinging way he held on was very telling for both. neither one wanted to let go . The look on Jack's face....(This i my Ennis?) PRICELESS.

I think you really understand this scene.  POWERFUL!!
A reminder Brokies...there is no known cure for PBS.  It's merely managed.

When they go upstairs to meet Alma, Jack never comes all the way into the room where she is.I think he knows that she knows.I had to laugh when he said the comment about about "smiles alot",because she definitely aint smilin! I think he knows she knows but does'nt give a damn at this point because he wants Ennis really bad right now,in more ways than one, The  look says ( " I know you know but I'm sorry he's mine at least for tonight ")  Hightails it  out.

Yeah, Jack was sure marking his territory there when he gave that look to Alma.  That look says, "back off" for sure.  Just one of the subtelties you have to watch the movie more than once to pick up on (at least for me).  Then, Ennis gives that "hurry your ass up Jack" look when he grabs his coat.  Neither of them can wait to get their hands all over each other.   :d)

I always imagine Ennis at this point to be mentally contrasting what he feels for Jack with his feelings for Alma, and seeing the huge gulf between them. The conversation is so artificial - none of the three seems to know what to say or what they're saying. So many violent emotions rushing up in each, so different in each case.
