I'm still wondering what it would be like if Alma and Jack actually did have confrontation over Ennis. That would be some knock down drag out fight huh?  THIS would be interesting to whatch! Alma:   What do you have that I don't have?    Jack:  You ever dance naked in the moonlight bitch!?  Smiles.

LOLOLOL  oh that  would have been great.

The next mornin' after reunion:
Alma: You know, you can come up for a cup of coffee.
Jack:  No thanks ma'ame I'm from Texas.
Alma: Texans don't drink coffee?
Jack: Not with our lover's wives, no ma'am.  That would be too awkward.  Ennis!  Let's get a move on.  I'm a starving from that work out last night and from that good stuff you gave me this mornin'

Here's my latest take on the scene . . . I feel like Ang Lee wanted us to feel as dizzy as Ennis and Jack in this moment, literally.  Consider the way we're as surprised as Jack is when Ennis grabs him and shoves him against the wall--as someone said earlier, we're kind of spying on this intensely intimate moment that really no one else should be privy to.  Then we're abruptly shoved into Alma's perspective and forced to witness her shock and hurt.  Then we're slammed back to Ennis and Jack, wishing with them that we could just get away from the apartment and on over to the hotel.  It is enough to make one's head spin . . . . again and again and again.   ^f^

And the use of the camera - tight in on the embrace, further away from Alm to emphasise her exclusion from events.

Awww thank you kindly, ma'am.   :) :)  I can only say I am inspired by the greateset  re-union scene ever witnessed.  In my book, there aint none better.  First. we got Ennis, waiting like a kindergardener in a Santa line. And we got Jack anxious at the reception he don't know he's gonna get.  We got the genuine smiles and missing each other. But then!  Ennis surprises us all and gives us the kiss to end all-- that literally sweeps Jack off his feet!  WHOO WEEE!   Then, we get Jack return the favor.  Finally. we see them tear apart and try and look presentable before high-tailing to the motel for some make-up lovin'.

Such inspiration!

I think you could be right Shieldmaid, the way it is shot is really great isnt it?  I love the way they charge into each to embrace, and the Brokeback music starts and all you see are their faces, and then all that throwing and kissing and reaching, its so intimate and private that it does take your breath away.

Jack was holding on so tight that Ennis"s T-shirt was bein streched to the max. And the out of control breathing from Ennis like he'd explode at any second if he even looked at Jack at that point. And Jack still trying to kiss him. This is SO real it's beyond acting.

Why CherryCake I do believe you are as addicted to this scene as the rest of us! O0  Can't blame ya none.  I can't help but wonder what is going thru Jack's mind as he watches Ennis head up the stairs.  He looks stunned and breathless!

Yes, sir, CSC, I am loving this scene, 100 per cent.  Another thing I noticed in my recent viewing... is when Jack sees Ennis, he breaks out in a HUGE grin, and starts running, as Ennis is running down the stairs...  they couln't wait..... 4 years.  Damn!

When you consider that when they last saw each other Ennis didn't say much as they went their separate ways.  Jack pulls up, Ennis greets him with a big ol' grin and "JFT!!"  Jack couldn't help but grin.  At the very least, he knew that Ennis WAS glad to see him.

Oh yeah, that grin speaks volumes. There is just the tiniest bit of apprehension in Jack's face when he first gets out the truck but then he sees how happy Ennis is to see him and he knows for sure that the journey has been worth it :)

the thing about even the first few moments, as Jack gets out of the pickup and Ennis comes down smiling is how differenly both of them behave from the way they did the last time they saw each other. The postcard exchange was laconic and unemotional but this, on both sides, is a demonstration of the way both of them are prepared to show their feelings, as opposed to allowing them out onl;y when they were alone, Jack in his pickup, Ennis in the alleyway, after their parting.

What you said about Jack's look when Ennis goes up the steps is right on, CSC.  That is one screen cap I copied.  That look is so full of meaning: what the hell is going on here?  What are you doing now?  Where are we going to take this thing now?  Jack was just so stunned, and so overwhelmed, he couldn't think straight ( no pun intended).  This one look proves Jake Gyllenhaal's acting talent.  Jack was in his soul in that scene, IMO.

Yes, there are moments in the movie - this is one and the end of FNIT is another, where it's hard to  distinguish the character from the actor - it looks as though Jake was going to some very deep places inside himself at times.
