OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY SONY PICTURES CLASSIC - THEY WILL DISTRIBUTE DR. PARNASSUS WITH DEC. 25, SELECTED THEATER RELEASE!!

**While we're all very happy that US finally have a release date, the fact that it's going to be "selected theater release" is not good, and here is Theresa's explanation as to what it means: "They’ll be big cities Los Angeles, New York, possibly Chicago. It’s going to be up to the fans to get it out of LA and NY and get it around the country. That’s the reason we are starting our US campaign and gathering information now so that we can make it known that there is an audience and fans out there for this film in the USA and they want to see it all over the country in their hometowns. This is the reason we are asking you guys to request pre-ordered tickets. If you do, even though they aren’t selling tickets for the film yet, a report of these requests and what cities they are from will go to Sony Pictures Classics. It’s very very important for fans to do this."

This is a selected theater only release which means the big cities, NYC, LA maybe Chicago. We are going to have to work as fans to get it out of these cities and out to the rest of the country.

Below is a letter that we encourage you to send to your local or national newspapers and magazines around the world. Please translate it into your native language and share it with your news media in your country to draw further attention to the movie around the world and to our site and goals. I have left blanks for dates, name of the newspaper or magazine, the release date and country you are from and your email address. It is preferable if you email the letter as they receive it much more quickly. This is a very important and helpful project for everyone around the world to do to help the film.

REMEMBER JUST BECAUSE YOUR COUNTRY HAS DISTRIBUTION DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL SEE THE FILM. IT JUST MEANS THE FILM WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THEATER OWNERS IN YOUR COUNTRY TO SHOW. US Dr. Parnassus Fans - Tell Us What Theater You Want To See The Film In!

USA Fans! Help us help you see The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus in your hometown. I think fans are under the impression that the December 25th release date for the film means that it is going to be released like most films they’re used to, all over the country, but this is not the case. On December 25th fans should expect it to open in the large major cities such as New York, Los Angeles and maybe a some others such as Chicago. That being the case fans need to make it known WHERE they want to see this movie if they want to see it in their own hometown. If you do not create that demand, if you do not show exhibitors (your theaters) that they have an audience, you well may find that the movie may not make it to your hometown. It is imperative that this movie get out of the big cities and around the country. That is going to mostly be up to the fans. We are here to help you be heard, but you must help us do that.

Please email us with the following information to the following email address:

1. Your city and state or your zip code.

2. The name of the theater or theaters where you want to see the movie in your hometown.

3. The contact information for that theater. If they have a website, please send us the email address for the theater that shows on their “contact us” button.

We will be gathering this information through October 9, 2009. Please participate and spread the word anywhere you can that we need this information.

After the information is gathered, we will make you aware of the fan campaign to help the USA obtain as wide of distribution of this movie as we possibly can. Seeing this movie, more than any in years, is going to depend on you, the fans.

I have something to share with you that I hope makes you really proud and makes you realize how very important your participation has been and continues to be in supporting Dr. P. Sony Picture Classics has done something pretty much unheard of in the industry and given us a great honor. Instead of making their own official "For More Information" page for their official Dr. Parnassus website page, they have chosen The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus Support Site as their official "go to" page. When you go to their official page on their website for Dr. P and click the "for more information" button, it takes you straight to our site. You are being heard. Now we have to keep up the momentum. We have gotten past the distributors but it is now the most critical part of our journey, exhibitors.

You have all been so amazing. If I were to live a hundred years, I could never express my gratitude to you and to ennisjack. I just know Heath is up in heaven with that lopsided little grin saying, "will you just look at that!".

Without all of you, we are nothing but one more website. Thank you all so much.

I could actually picture him exactly as you described. I can't thank you and Keren and all the people who have worked so hard on this enough. Truly.

I've been out of the country so out of the loop for a while but I'll get right on those e-mails with the theater information and the petitions to the newspapers. It's amazing that Sony has chosen to use the support site as a main reference. Thank you Barb, and thank you so much for helping out. We need as much help as we can get if we want to bring this film to Michigan, and the rest of the States.

I'm really itching to get more publicity for it in Israel, I already translated the letter to the press to Hebrew and I'm going to send it to the two biggest Israeli newspapers, both by mail and by email. And I'll send it to them every week until I get a response!!

We are getting ready to have another wonderful, exclusive adventure thanks to the Gilliams tomorrow. The Playlist had an interview with Sony Pictures Classics, the US distributor of Dr Parnassus. SPC talked about their method of distribution, and it confirmed what we pretty much knew: the movie will open in a very limited release, meaning NY and LA. it is important in driving home our point that this movie is NOT coming to your hometown unless you help us make that happen. This impression that so many people have had in the US that Dec. 25 means you're going to see it in a theater near you is simply incorrect. It is a fact that only LA and NY are going to see it on Dec. 25 and whether or not and what other cities see it will depend on the numbers there. It will be a slow roll out after that and the size of that roll out is going to completely depend on the fans. It's a platform release and where and whether it goes anywhere else in this country will depend on how it does in Los Angeles and New York AND in the demand you, the fans, create in other markets around the country. IT IS COMPLETELY IN YOUR HANDS.

Another important thing is that the results it gets from release in NY and LA not only determine the other cities, but it will determine the effect on other countries as well. For example, I know for a fact now that Israel is waiting for the US release to see how the movie is doing there before they release it here - I spoke to the distributor and they told me that the film will not be release here until 2010. The success in European countries that are releasing the movie in 2009 is also very important and has it's effect. and it's like that for many other small countries that don't have a release date yet.

The bottom line is, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. The fact that we know about this movie and about the support site doesn't mean that other people know about it. The opening numbers are very important, this is what's going to determine the future of this film and how wide the distribution will eventually be. This is why we want everybody to know about this movie, we want to have them waiting for it and we want them to go and see it as soon as it gets released.
