If it doesn't win, I'm boycotting movies produced by anyone but Focus Features. Damnation to the Academy if this movie is not given the plaudits it deserves.

The Colour Purple, a wonderful heartfelt movie received 11 Oscars, it won not one single award. We shouldn't lose hope at this though. I still think the colour purple is a great film and better than many which won awards before and since it.

I know this doesn't instill confidence, but winning is down to a group of people who are influenced by friends, money, rivalries and jealousy. The film has won all the plaudits of the public who voted with their admission price to this movie. Time will tell just how good this film is.

In 25 yrs. this movie will be noted for breaking the barrier down and permitting actors/actresses to take roles they thought they shouldn't do because someone might be offended. Also, everyone will wonder why all the fuss over this movie as we move into the mainstream of American life and acceptance

God!  Cowboy I hope so.  The next step is to allow gay actors to play gay roles. Hopefuly Gyllenhaal will be gay and be happy and still sought after by directors et al.

Hasn't it won every major award so far?  I mean for movie...?
I just don't see how it can lose...I know it could happen, but
it doesn't make sense.

Ebert and Roeper just did their yearly "Who we think should win" show on the OScars, it's not a prediction but
what they would choose.  They both picked Crash and Roeper had the odacity to say that "now everyone is talking
about Brokeback but in 5 years Crash is the one that will carry on"  No sir, cause spiritually we are connected to
Brokeback.  Crash is a more intellectually stimulating film but Brokeback owns your heart.  I can't believe he said that.
It's not just the political aspect it's the sense of loss and man trying to live amongst rules etc.

Yeah I mean these guys are in the literary community and can lean toward pretentiousness.
I saw that in their review.  Brokeback touches all kinds of people, from all walks cause
we all share common senses of loss and redemption etc.  With Crash, while very provactive
adn interesting, it wasn't as Universal.  It explored some very important racial issues, but
since much of what is dealt with was unique to LA, (the cars and the police stuff, ) I don't see how they can say in 5 years it will
last and Brokeback is flavor of the month?  What?

Don't you think, if Heath does win, there will be a thunderous, yelling, screaming
standing ovation like the Academy has never seen before?  PSH has votes, we
all know, but not the passionate following, and if Heath has enough votes to
win, there  may be an Oscar moment that will go down in history.  I hope the
voters realize that they can create such an event if they want to.

I asked my best friend if he remembers seeing Crash just last fall, and he said what!
I don't recall ever seeing that movie, then I reminded him it was he who had told me to go and see it and that it was awesome, go figure his memory is short of two bullets in the head, but ask him about Brokeback Mountain and his reply is:
How can I ever forget this movie for as long as ( me ) lives it couldn't dissapeared from his mind, I wouldn't allow it, otherwise he's a dead man!
he knows by now I have seen it 15 times at the theater, 6 times at home and have become a Brockie on ennisjack.com,
eh I say that is what friends are for

Local newspaper film critic states that Jake and Heath may have jinxed their Oscars by their beahvior at the SAG awards.  Apparently he (the critic) feels that the two insulted the writer of the presentation they were reading by misbehaving.  Also adding that the audience and voters of the SAG awards are the same people who will be voting the Oscars.

I hope he is wrong.

In 5 years Crash will be forgotten? I heard about Crash when the Oscar nominations came out. I know no one who has actually seen this movie or heard of it prior, it just popped up out of the blue. This movie is nothing compared to BBM. Crash will be forgotten alright, it will be forgotten because it hasn't even been discovered. Brokeback Mountain is the highest grossing film nominated for best picture. So sure seems like most people won't forget it, the ones who will forget it in 5 years are the homophobic right wing conservative extremists. UGH. LOSERS. I DECLARE WAR IF CRASH WINS BEST PICTURE.

You know I am sort of detaching from win/lost at Oscars.  I mean Hollywood is so dysfunctional
one can't rely on it.  And did you read that article with Samuel Jackson where he said he lets' his
maid vote for him?  I mean I am sure there are some people out there who could care less.
I mean I want to share the time with you all but other than that, Brokeback changed my life
and many others.  Who gives a rats ass if it wins in a way.  Hitchcock never won.  They are
giving Robert Altman a life time acheivement award and he never won...

Before we all hate Crash, let's go see it, huh?  I wouldn't let a word of BBM criticism stand unless the viewer had seen it.  Crash is a good film, with a powerful message, told in very very blunt terms.  The writing is crisp, the acting is superb and unexpectedly good from several people, and it frankly deserved the "ensemble" award it got at SAG because it was exactly that  - a great ensemble piece.  But it is not Brokeback in any sense - not in issue, not in effect, not in tone, and not in staying power.  It is a movie for now, not for the ages, a movie for Los Angeles (or any large multiethnic city), not for the world.

I hope HOPE HOPE that Brokeback is recognized by the Academy members as Best Picture.

He pressed his face into the fabric and breathed in slowly through his mouth and nose, hoping for the faintest smoke and mountain sage and salty sweet stink of Jack but there was no real scent, only the memory of it, the imagined power of Brokeback Mountain of which nothing was left but what he held in his hands. Make the pledge! Go Back to Brokeback whenever, however you can. Join the BTB Project.

That is really well put. I liked Crash a lot too.  But it's not Brokeback in scope, but try telling that
to a pretentious intelletcual.  But then again the pretentious intellectual is probably
struggling wtih their own repressions.  Let be let be.   ;)

Hi guys, I couldn't resist, I wrote to Ebert.  Even though I really don't care who wins an Oscar  ;)

Dear Mr Ebert and Roeper,

I must respectfully disagree with your opinion that after another look at Crash it will be deemed the more
deserving film of 2005 of an Oscar. And particularly Roepers view that Brokeback is more of a "flavor of the month" and in 5 years Crash will actually be the one remembered.   Brokeback tells a very human and Universal tale of loneliness, repression and a glimmer of redemption.  Although it's getting this tag of "revolutionary", it's a real everyman's tale.  While Crash is a fantastic film, I feel saying it's more a more valuable movie is an error in judgment that almost rivals Ennis Del Mar's denials or Terrance Howard’s TV exec's lack of wisdom.   Does a car crash make a more dramatic statement than a Wyoming Mountain? Does a movie have to aim for your intellect more than your spirit?  Brokeback gives us a level of intimacy that is rare in American film.  Particularly one that can also be called an epic.  I hate to turn this into an argument
so perhaps I would say that Crash is the clever brother, one that has the twists and turns, flips one on your broadside with clever talk and sometimes contrived conversations-that do however,  bring up great points  -Brokeback is the quiet neighbor, whom if you sit quietly with doesn't have to yell at you to make it's point.  It just reminds you, ever so gently.... to listen.  (and it has great cinematography...and a powerful soundtrack)

Well on a positive note, isn't it great to have a year in movies such as this to argue about?  The real winner this year is the
public who had such good quality this year.
