Guidelines & Rules

Whether you are new to Brokeback Mountain, or a veteran "Brokie", we welcome you to this forum.

We have compiled the following guidelines and policies to help you get the most from your forum experience. While we make every effort to ensure this forum is enjoyable and of value, the ultimate responsibility lies with those who post messages. As with any community, this forum's "standard of living" depends on the goodwill and consideration of its citizens.

Generally speaking, these "house rules" are based on the concepts of respect and good manners. Use common sense and you'll feel right at home.

Getting the Most Out of this Forum

Participate at Your Own Level of Comfort

If you're new to this community, it might seem intimidating at first to post a message or to join in. No problem. You're welcome to simply hang out and read posts until you feel more comfortable.

Of course, we encourage you to set aside your apprehensions and jump in on a discussion. We have a very supportive community that offers a lot encouragement and enthusiasm. And we are all very eager to welcome your unique contributions to our group.

    Celebrate and Respect Our Diversity

One of the most compelling aspects of this community is that we come from all walks of life and all parts of the world. We are as diverse in our makeup as we are alike in our passion for this movie. Because we all bring a unique perspective to the forum, our collective experience is broadened, and we gain insights that otherwise might have alluded us.

Our diversity, however, also demands that we make a concerted effort to be respectful of other members of the community. Due to the inherent constraints of the Internet, humor, sarcasm and verses of slang can be easily misinterpreted - especially when crossing cultural boundaries.

When posting a message, pay extra care to how it might be interpreted. And when you come across a post that offends you, please re-read it with an eye towards giving the poster the benefit of the doubt.

    Welcome Everyone

This forum is a friendly, informative and fun community. And, because of this, we are thriving. When newcomers arrive, welcome them to our growing community. By helping new folks "learn the ropes," you provide a shining example of what this community is all about and, in the process, help to ensure that the traits that have made this forum so popular will continue to flourish. And remember, we were all "newbies" at one time.

    Guard Your Privacy

We encourage you to keep personal information personal. Do you really want to put your address or telephone number on the this forum? If you want to share your personal information with another member of the community, it is generally best to do so via a private email or private messaging.

Actions That Will Compel Intervention

        * Inappropriate Posts/Profiles
        * Off topic Posts

Off topic posts take two general forms:

        * Posts within a discussion topic that detract from the topic being discussed.
        * Topic-starting posts that are placed in an inappropriate forum. When determining in which board to place a topic-starting post, pay close attention to the board description.

We reserve the right to relocate, modify or remove off-topic posts without notice.

File Attachments - Effective May 1, file attachment is no longer available. Please refer to this tutorial thread for posting image link.

The forum enables members to attach files with maximum size of 125k. To ensure the efficient use of the limited server space, please do not attach the file more than once or to an irrelevant post/topic. Additionally, it may be necessary to delete attachments in order to reserve additional space without notice.

    Profile Signature

The content should be our focus. Please keep signature texts to 10 pt max and free of images in your signature. These images slow down the loading of pages. Please think of those with dial-ups.

    Personal attacks

We invite and encourage a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree with an opinion or idea expressed by another member, by all means, challenge the opinion or idea - not the person. Personal attacks on individuals, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated and will be removed. You may challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully.

Do not retaliate or respond in any way to a personal attack that you perceive to be directed at yourself or another member. All too often, when an initial attack is levied, others join the fray and instead of becoming part of the solution, they become part of the problem. If you feel that you have been the recipient of a personal attack, contact moderators or administrator immediately.

Also, please keep in mind that shouting online (typing in all capital letters LIKE THIS) is considered by some to be rude and difficult to read.

    Offensive Language/Material

Any posts or profiles containing communications that are knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, obscene, profane, threatening, harassing, offensive, vulgar, abusive, hateful or bashing -- especially those aimed at sexual orientation, gender, race, color, religious views, national origin, or disability - will not be tolerated and will be removed. Individuals who do not abide by these rules are subject to having their account permanently deleted.

Posts/profiles that contain explicit, obscene or vulgar images, or links to such images, will be removed without notice and accounts subject to deletion!

    Condoning of Illegal Activity

Posts that condone illegal activity will be removed without notice and accounts subject to deletion! We're not the law, but we know where they are.

    Invasion of Privacy

At BBM forum, we have the utmost respect for the privacy of our participants. Members can take comfort in the knowledge that none of their personal information will be posted on the forums, unless they choose to post it themselves. This means that no one is allowed to post another member's private information or any private discussion via email or PM. Any such posts will be removed.

   Commercial Messages

Posts/profiles containing promotional messages without prior permission for commercial or charitable products or services -- included but not limited to Internet sites such as blogs, business advertisements and solicitations to business transactions or any personal interests -- will be removed. Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify the validity of each charitable organization, therefore, in an effort to protect our users from fraud, we must prohibit solicitations for charities, and all business transactions. If you receive spam via PM or email of such messages from members, please report it to the administrative staff

If you spot an unauthorized commercial post, please contact moderator or administrator.

    Copyright Material

Information copyrighted or owned by any individual or entity other than the person posting should not be posted on the forums or without the consent of the owner. If such an event occurs, the individual posting the information shall be held solely responsible. This forum shall not be held responsible for posted information that may violate copyright law.

The forum will remove any posting on illegal BBM DVD, soundtrack or story downloads.

    Posting Images

After previous discussions in the mod team, some pictures posted on the forum had to be removed. We understand many members are big fans of Heath, Jake and others. As supportive fans, let's respect them as who they are and not manipulate their pics to fulfill our fantasy. Collages are allowed of the Brokeback Mountain characters, and of each actor individually, but not of both actors mixed together or the actors mixed with others, like ourselves. To maintain this level of respect, the forum also asks the members not to post paparazzi photos or photos that constitute a clear invasion of their privacy. In the interests of protecting this forum and making it accessible to all ages, please do not post images of nudity, either front or back, in any form except famous classical artwork. We thank you for your understanding and support. If you are not sure about the pix, please check with the mod team first.

    Duplicate Posts

    Duplicate posts take two forms:

        * Identical posts placed on more than one discussion board. Good online manners dictate that you don't post the same message more than once. The online word for posting the same message in multiple locations is "spamming." We don't allow that.
        * Accidental duplicate posts in a single discussion thread. We do understand that, due to occasional server lag, duplicate posts may not be your fault. To request that accidental duplicate posts be deleted, contact moderator or administrator who will see that the duplicate post in question is cleaned up.

BBM Forum Rights

The forum reserves the right to remove a post which does not relate to the topic being discussed in the topic or on a specific board. In addition, the forum reserves the right to organize topical forums in order to best serve the majority of our visitors and members.

The forum also reserves the right to prohibit or delete messages that violate applicable laws or that may be harmful to others. That said, the forum does not have the practical ability to restrict conduct or communications that might violate our guidelines prior to transmission on the Internet, nor can we ensure prompt removal of offending forum posts.

The content of messages does not constitute approval or necessarily reflect the views of this forum. You participate at your own risk on the forums, in PM and in email. You take responsibility for postings under your identification and use the information provided here at your own risk. The forum takes no responsibility for the content or opinions posted here.

By posting to a topic in the forum, you agree to abide by our Terms of Conditions. The terms of conditions, rules, guidelines are subject to change without notice.
