Boycott Oscar sponsors!!!
« on: Mar 10, 2006, 12:46 AM »
Well, we all know that the major designers give away free dresses to the actresses.  We also know that few of us will ever be able to afford such extravagant things.  But the Academy voters get a lot in their swag bag which ends up to well over 100,000 of stuff.

As of next year, I will not buy anything from any company that supports the voters.  I may not be buying Louie Handbags anyway but I do buy Kodak stuff.  If they supply diamond studded cameras next year, I will never buy anything from Kodak again.  This goes the same for sunglasses and all the other stuff in the Swag bag.

I will be writing to the companies to tell them so.  The Academy doesn't deserve all that free stuff after the way they snubbed Brokeback.

Any other ideas?

OK, it doesn't look like this is a popular idea.  heh heh heh.  I must have been drunk.

Are there any other ideas to help support Brokeback and to keep it alive?

What about attempting to get Michael Moore to film a documentry on the Brokeback Snub.  He's no stranger to controversy and is very sympathetic to causes where ethics are obviously breached.  He just might take up the challenge.  Although he is working on persuits more international it might be an idea to put a flea in his ear.

Remembering this is just my opinion, I am not too fond of this idea. MM is hated by the very people we are trying to teach tolerance to.  Anything he would have to say might just set our cause back 50 years.

I wouldn't be adverse to a boycott. It worked with Anita Bryant. But, as you observed, that idea doesn't seem to be too popular.

One thing I have promised myself to do to support BBM though; I will buy at least one DVD a year to give as a gift.  Spread the message and support BBM at the same time.

Thank you.  I guess I was a bit too vindictive.

I don't know why you would think you were being vindictive.  You were just trying to come up with ideas to stick it to the Academy.  I would love to stick it to the Academy.  Keep thinking.  ;D

You were not drunk, you were just expressing your anger and disappointment with a lot of reasons to do it...  I was feeling the same way and Still I'm but those people are not worth it, they should all be out from that academy because it's corrupted by them!

i love brokeback mountain, but the academy gave it a whole hell of a lot anyways.  yes, they didn't get every award they were nominated for, but have any of you looked at crash as a movie?  Brokeback mountain is great, I love it, but crash was more complex, more seamless.  it is definitely arguable that crash and brokeback mountain are equally important and artistic movies, and that crash's artistic side is a bit better than BBM's.  I'm not saying I agree with this, I'm just saying that you can't completely fault the academy here.  We all know that brokeback mountain is one of the best movies of the past half century, that doesn't mean crash isn't too.
don't hate me for saying it, i just wanted to throw it out there.
