Has anyone figured out how the boys knew where the allotments were?  Were they marked?  There were two that we know of, the first place they stopped and then they moved the sheep to a new one.  Could never figure out how they knew where they were.

Patriot1, I admire you for keeping this part of the forum bubbling with new things.

Interesting question.  We need someone with experience in this.  I recall that certain forumers seemed knowledgable about details like these...  I don't expect city folk like myself to be of much use, but I am certainly curious...

Good question.  :)

Jack had already pass one summer in Mountain. So, maybe he already know, all this mountain.

But, personally, all the summer since I'm born, I'm going to Corsica, where my family have a big house, it's a very small village and all around it's just mountain, mountain and again mountain. Some of this mountain (little part) is privates family, and you can let me alone in the mountain, I'll always find my way. I think it's just a question about customarily . Knowing mountain, it's something you can forget, it's something inside you, something  innate.

Humm.. I'm not sure I have I answered at your question I'm sorry.

Patriot1 and Lost Girl, this is pure speculation on my part here, but I imagine the Forestry Service or who ever regulates grazing rights on government property has a pretty good handle on how long an area could and should be grazed before moving a herd or flock. I think Jack and Ennis were sent up on the mountain with specific instructions on were to camp and graze and for what periods of time. I know we don't see this in the movie or story but then we don't see them filling out W-2's or any other work papers. It was probably explained to them before going up to the jumpoff. I mean, we can't believe that they were just sent off up a mountain after that opening speech of Aguirre's.

I have to agree with BBBoy. I think the boys were given specific instructions. I think that is just kind of understood. Jack did sheepherding the year before, but I am sure things had changed a little bit. Jack never mentioned having to do the whole entire 2 camp thing the year before. So I am sure both boys got instructions about the locations.  ;D
