DVD the same as the theatrical release?
« on: Apr 05, 2006, 01:37 AM »
After having seen BBM in the theater 21 times, I swear I saw a couple things for the first time when I was watching the DVD that I don't know how I missed so I was wondering if the DVD is the exactly the same as the theatrical version.

It makes me wonder especially since the movie was 134 minutes long and the DVD box says 2 hours and 15 minutes. Where'd the extra minute come from?

Maybe it was just me, but if someone can answer this question for me I'll know if I've completely lost my mind or not :)

When Jack goes back to talk to Aguirre about a job the next summer, Jack is wearing an open jacket, a buttoned up wool or flannel shirt and a plaid shirt underneath. What color is the wool/flannel shirt? I would have sworn that it was BLUE when I saw BBM in the theater, but on my DVD its RED.

Someone please tell me that I am not insane :-\

The only thing I noticed that was different was that there seemed to be more light in the first tent scene.  I saw it nine times in theaters (three different theaters).  I never could see what some people said they saw...Jack grabbing Ennis' right hand with HIS right hand and pulling down on it.  Is it possible that they darkened the scene in the film they sent out to theaters?    Donna
This is the forest primeval.  The murmuring pines and the hemlocks, bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight...but where are the hearts that beneath it leaped...

I think the quality of focus and brightness depends on the projectionist at your local theater.  I was able to see Jack grabbing Ennis' hand in my theater experience  :)

I had never noticed Jack grabbing Ennis' hand until today. I guess the more you watch something the more you pick up on.

Now you have me curious. How did you think Ennis's hand got to Jack's crotch?

I saw him reach back and put Ennis' hand to his crotch everytime. What I never noticed was Jack grabbing Ennis' arm/hand while they were going at it.

Anybody else think the 'Jack, I swear' line is different on the DVD?

I've seen it 39 times in the theatre.  When I watched my DVD, I almost fell out of my chair.  On the DVD, it's as if Ennis whispers it.  In the theatres, it was much more pronounced.
