Ennis Gives Jack a Love Tap??

hey i just noticed...  right before the "I thought you said that mare couln't throw you/ Well, she got lucky' scene, there is a short sequence where Jack is bringing a piece of wood to the camp.  Ennis meets him on his way and reaches out to him... is this a subtle way of showing Ennis is confortable enough with Jack to touch/reach out to him... what do you guys think?  It's a far away shot and I never noticed this until today... what do you guys think??

I think right at this point, they had already bonded. This is the scene right before FNIT. Thanks for the screen caps.  :D

Ok, I brought the DVD to work, going to look for this now. I'll get back with ya, lol. That is, if I can just watch this ONE part and not start watching the movie all over again. I seem to have that problem when looking for something, then I end up watching the whole thing again, lol :)

Ok, I just watched it. Yes, I believe that it's the progression of them feeling comfortable enough. We see them talking more, well Ennis speaking more words than he has all year, lol, and then things progress even more, and touching begins. Good call!!

I can almost guarantee that the more we watch the DVD the more things are going to come out, no pun intended :) But yes, every time I watch it, I'm on my 7th viewing in less than two weeks, I catch something else :)

thanks for the pics...I never noticed that before either..its amazing what one finds know that we have the dvd's in our homes and can pause and look at the scenes for moment we have missed before..so thanks :)

It never fails to amaze me, but I realize something new about this movie/story every day!

I did notice the reach over, if you will.  Such a contrast to when Ennis recoils when Jack tries to tend to his wound after Ennis falls off the horse.  They definitely have built a rapport and a trust, as we see in the next scene when they start joking around.  Then comes the "Water Walking Jesus" scene and the flirting, the booze, and well, we all know a certain tent that went rocking after that!   $)

I remember seeing this in one of my early theater viewings, and I believe I thought the same, keren -- that it was like to re-balance the log on Jack's shoulder.  But even if it's that, that's still a sweet friend-affection action.

You know what, I don't exactly see it as Ennis "recoiling" from Jack trying to tend to his head wound.  I mean, he does pull away, but he isn't like adamant about pushing Jack away, like he didn't say "what the f**k you doing" or anything like that and get up and stomp off.  He just wasn't comfortable being nursed like that, probably no matter by who.  But I think he liked that Jack did it, liked that Jack stayed nearby while he did it himself.

But yes, by this day we're talking about, things are so much easier between them, easier for Ennis.  Beautiful.  Can't you see him falling in love about this time -- probably he'd never been so easy...and so stimulated...around anyone else before.  And what a beautiful man to be easy with, is Jack.
