Tragic that I shall have to watch this movie - what was it callled? - for the second ( OK thirty-second) time to check this out. I tend to look at what's going on rather than listen but this time I'll keep my eyes shut - oh yeah!

You know, I think it is time to admit that while this is a fantastic movie, the audio left a lot to be desired.  I mean why would they not want us to hear "Ennis", "come here" and "later"?  I can understand the "I'm sorry" and all the things difficult to hear in the first and second nights in the tent, but "Ennis"? So, either the sound recorder screwed up or the editor did. There is just too much in this movie that is too difficult to hear.

I also don´t understand why acteurs speak so quietly but I must say it´s true that Jack say the word ´Ennis sonofabitch´.I have turn my TV louder and I hear the word.(sorry for my bad english I´m german)

I agree with you about things like "c'm'ere" and "later", but I think the "Ennis" is pretty clear, actually. I only missed it in the cinema because I was so caught up in the joy on their faces that I wasn't really listening to what they were saying.

I have a feeling most of those whispered words were adlibbed - perhaps the soundman wasn't set up to catch them because they weren't scripted. There's also a part of me that thinks the uneven quality of the sound makes the whole thing more believable - in the same way as their sometimes being scruffy and the campsite being a mess does. in some ways the movie feels more like a documentart  ( or dramadoc) because it's not Hollywood-perfect.

You're right welshwitch. Also, it somehow seems more intimate that we can't hear every word perfectly. We know they're whispering something to each other, and we understand that it's something tender - maybe hearing the words loud and clear would spoil that feeling of intruding on intimacy that so many people have said they feel in scenes like SNIT and the reunion?
