Ennis: I'll be gone half the night. Bring home some round steak if you think of it
He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten

Christopher Nolan, accepting the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe on Heath's behalf.

He was, as an actor and a professional and a human being, one of a kind

Charles Roven, accepting Heath's BAFTA.

This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here — his peers within an industry he so loved.

Kim Ledger, accepting Heath's Oscar.

Ennis picks up the postcard, reads that Jack is planning to come thru on the 24th, turns around and looks to see if Alma is looking.

"Is he somebody you cowboy'd with, 'er whut?" Alma asks.

Ennis turns back around, reads the card, again, stunned, lips moving, to be sure it really says what he thinks it says.

Jack ain't a restaurant type.
The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

(Sound of a truck engine: Ennis goes to window, looks out, sees Jack get out of his truck, smiles, runs out the door tucking his shirt tail in. Out on the landing: big smile lights up his face.)

Ennis: "Jack f**kin' Twist!!"
Jack: " Nice to know you, Ennis Del Mar."

Ennis mutters something, maybe, "Alright" and starts pushing Jack backwards towards the building.  The sound of boots on boards, then Ennis slams Jack up against the wall, knocking his hat off and locking his lips hungrily onto Jack's, nearly breaking Jack's nose in his desperate need for his man.  Jack's hands come up to Ennis' neck, they break loose for breath, and Jack looks at Ennis longingly, almost tearfully, reverently. Suddenly, with a burst of breath, Jack hauls off and slams Ennis against the opposite wall and devours his lips in a near-violent kiss, missing his mark at first, in his haste, their faces and noses and foreheads crushed together, four hands grabbing face, hair, necks, in their consuming passion.

The door to Ennis' apartment opens.  Alma blandly looks out to see what is holding them up outside, then her expression turns to disbelief, then shock as she sees her husband and this stranger locked in a tight embrace on the steps below, passionately kissing.

Alma turns away, slams the door shut and walks into the kitchen, breathless and stunned.

Out on the steps, Ennis begins to become aware of his surroundings, starts looking guiltily around, torn between his desire to ravage Jack right there on the steps and his fear of being discovered.

Jack just wants to keep going, but Ennis pushes him away slightly, but nuzzling Jack's forehead and nose, muttering, "Later", as he gives a last nuzzle, then walks toward the apartment stairs, leaving Jack to stare after him, wondering what in the hell had just happened.

Ennis comes in the house while Alma is trying to recover from the impression, followed by a quivering Jack;he dries his lips with his shirt sleeve in order to put the remains of their passion away from them.He says:Alma, this is Jack Twist;Jack, this is my wife,Alma. They say hello to each other and then the cry of a baby sounds.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

"I got a boy," Jack said, breathlessly, licking his lips, still tasting Ennis's beer-and-cigarette-flavored kisses while gazing at Ennis' mouth.

"Yeah?"

"Eight months old.  Smiles a lot.  Married the pertiest little gal in Childress, Texas.  Lureen."  Ennis grunts, and Jack looks down, still trembling from what just happened, still trying to catch his breath and maintain some facade of normality in front of Ennis' wife, who could only stare at him.
