Alma, Jr tugs at Alma's uniform smock saying:  Momma, I need crayons

Alma looks at Alma Jr and strokes Jr's hair saying:  Not now, Alma

Alma Jr. pulls a jar of roasted peanuts out of a stacked display and the entire stack collapses (a metaphor for the marriage of Ennis & Alma?). Monroe come around the corner.

ALMA:
Monroe, I'm so sorry.

MONROE:
It's OK Alma. It's OK.

ALMA:
I'll clean it up just as soon as I call my sister to come get the girls.

MONROE:
Really, Alma. It's OK. I'll get it.

New scene:  The home of Jack and Lureen Twist, Chidress, TX.  Lureen is sitting on the bed holding her newborn son, Bobby and smiling at him. 

Jack (shouting from another room):  Honey, got a surprise for you!

Lureen's parents, L.D. and Fayette Newsome walk in the room smiling.  Jack follows them and stands in the doorway.

L.D: good job girl, he's the spittin' image of his Grandpa. isn't he the spittin' image of his Grandpa?

Jack, while standing by the door, looks like outsider on the whole scene with a bitter expression on his face for a few seconds, and leaves the room.

New scene:  Riverton, WY

Ennis drives his pick-up truck into a small parking lot behind a laundromat.  Ennis gets out of the pick-up and walks up the back stairs and enters a small apartment. 

Alma is in the kitchen at the stove cooking.  Alma Jr. is 'cooking' on a toy stove.

Alma:  Hey, Honey.

Ennis walks to the sink and washes his hands.

Alma:  Ennis?  Do you know somebody by the name of Jack?

Ennis, his back to Alma, freezes for a moment.

Ennis:  I might.  Why?
Alma:  You got a postcard...it come General Delivery.

Ennis, with trembling hands, reads the post card, then turns it over and looks at the address.  He caresses the postcard with his thumb.

Alma:  Is he somebody you cowboy'd with?

Ennis:  No, Jack...he rodeos mostly. 
Ennis pauses for a second and continues:  We was fishing buddies.

Ennis walks into the living room carrying a bottle of beer and sits down in a chair by the window. Alma is sitting on the couch coloring in a coloring book with Alma Jr.

Alma:  Maybe we could get a baby-sitter and take your friend to the Knife and Fork
Ennis:  Jack ain't the restaurant type.  More than likely we'll just go out and get drunk...

Ennis looks out the window:  IF HE SHOWS.

Ennis waits expectantly for Jack, smoking drinking beer, stands up looking out the window seats down looks like he falls asleep...
Sound of a truck engine: Ennis goes to window, looks out, sees Jack get out of his truck, smiles, runs out the door tucking his shirt tail in, out on the landing, big smile lights up his face, in just one moment it is clear that the passage of time has only strengthened the men's attachment.
Ennis: "Jack f**kin' Twist!!"    <^(

ennis bounds down the steps to at a time and jack walks towards him the pair embrace and jack wispers "son of a bitch" (maybe not your typical endearment but he said it nicely :P)
ennis then looks around before pushing jack againt the wall and engaging a kiss (a mind blowing kiss!! <^( <^() jack then pushed ennis against the opposite wall and they kiss some more  <^( <^( <^(

alma comes to the door and sees them kissing she looks devestated and speechless and slowly steps back in the house, ennis breaks the kiss and gentally presses his forhead against jacks nose as he does so, then then move around like they may kiss again. (appearing to sniff each other)
