Ennis nods:

Ma'am.

Thank you for this.

Ennis puts his hat on.

Leaves.

Ennis looks back at the house, up at the window to his lover Jack's room.

From the short story: Bumping down the washboard road Ennis passed the country cemetery fenced with sagging sheep wire, a tiny fenced square on the welling prairie, a few graves bright with plastic flowers, and didn't want to know Jack was going in there, to be buried on the grieving plain. :\'( :\'( :\'(

Exterior, Riverton WY, afternoon 1984.

A new mailbox sits in front of the trailer house.
Ennis has a set of stick-on numbers in his hand.
Peels off the 1 and precisely applies it, then the 7, - 17.

Steps back, admires his work.

An '82 Camaro pulls into the driveway.

The engine cuts. Alma Jr. steps out of the Camaro and closes the door.

Ennis smiles as Alma Jr. walks up to her father.

He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten

Christopher Nolan, accepting the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe on Heath's behalf.

He was, as an actor and a professional and a human being, one of a kind

Charles Roven, accepting Heath's BAFTA.

This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here — his peers within an industry he so loved.

Kim Ledger, accepting Heath's Oscar.

from the screenplay:

Something sags a little in Alma Jr. nods her head.
Understands.

Ennis looks across at his daughter, sees her disappointment.

He stands. Goes to the fridge, opens it. Takes out a half-empty bottle of cheap white wine, a leagacy of Cassie.

Ennis: (smiles at his daughter)

You know what? I reckon they can find themselves a new cowboy.

from the screenplay:

Hands her a glass of wine. Sits.

Ennis:

To Alma and Kurt.

Alma Jr. smiles and clinks her glass with her daddy's.

Ennis smiles back at his luminous daughter. But his smile can't hide the regret and longing, for the one thing that he can't have. That he will never have.

Ennis watches Alma drive off, goes back into his trailer and finds her sweater. Looks out but she's gone so he folds it and goes to put it in the closet. The closet door swings open and we see THE SHIRTS hanging there, Ennis' plaid one over Jack's blue. He does up a couple of the snaps on Jack's shirt, smoothes it down then straightens the postcard of Brokeback that is next to them. Steps back, tears in his eyes...

Jack, I swear
