And again:

New Scene.  Ennis wakes up inside the pup tent.  He is cold and blinded by glare coming from outside.  He wraps a blanket around himself and goes outside to discover that it has been snowing.  He moves around with a jumpy gait trying to keep warm...

New scene:  Ennis on horseback, rides into camp for breakfast.  Jack is taking down the tent.  Ennis gets off his horse and walks over to Jack.

Ennis, looking puzzled:  What are you doing?

Ennis turns and walks away, kicking at a patch of snow, curses:  sh*t...

Jack carries on packing up the tent, replies:  alright

Ennis sits down on a tree stump, picks up a piece of wood, scratches the ground with it, and then tosses it aside..

Some time has elapsed.

Jack has about finished packing and has secured the last of the baggage train.  He spies Ennis sulking up on a hillside meadow not far from camp.  His eyes are full of compassion.  He takes his lasso and approaches Ennis.

Jack: Time to get goin', cowboy...

Ennis takes Jack's lasso off, stands up, and walks away, tucking in his shirt.

Jack swings his lasso on to the ground in front of Ennis who steps into it.

Jack pulls it tight causing Ennis to fall, says:  there you go, and laughs.

Ennis pulls on the lasso, causing Jack to fall, replies:  this ain't no rodeo, cowboy...

They begin to wrestle, Jack laughing, but Ennis more serious.

They begin to running down the hillside,in what is at the beginning like a game, but that increasily becames an atruggle. They are more and more angry.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

Finally, Jack inadvertently elbows Ennis and draws blood from Ennis's nose.  Jack comes close and wipes away the blood onto his shirt sleeves, saying:

Jack: Ennis...  Ennis...  Come 'ere...  You OK?

New Scene.  We see Ennis and Jack bringing down the sheep.  They are silent, and hardly look at each other.  Ennis wears his spare shirt, and Jack sports the bruise that Ennis gave him.  Both of them look contrite, although both remain silent...

New scene:  The sheep are being corralled.  Jack and Ennis lean against a wooden fence while the sheep are being counted. Joe Aquirre walks up to Jack and Ennis.

Aguirre (slowly):  Some of these never went up there with you.  (Long pause) The count ain't what I hoped for neither.  You ranch stiffs ain't never no good...

Ennis and Jack remain silent.  Aguirre walks away.

New Scene.  Ennis helps Jack restart his truck.

Ennis (from under the hood):  You wanna give it some gas?

The car restarts.  Ennis closes the hood.

Ennis (looking though his bag): I can't believe I left my damn shirt up there...

Jack:-Yeah... You gonna do this again next summer?

Ennis : Well, maybe not! Like I said, me and Alma is getting married in November. So... I'll try to get something on a ranch, I guess. And you?

Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

JACK: (Looking directly at Ennis, dying inside for a small scrap of emotional recognition.)

Might go up to my daddy's place, give 'em a hand through the winter.

I might be back . . .  If the Army don't get me.

ENNIS: (Barely able to look Jack in the eye, conflicting emotions clawing at his gut.)

Well, I guess I'll see ya' 'round, huh?

JACK:

Right.

Ennis walks away, Jack drives off watching the lone figure of Ennis in the rearview mirror.
They won't see each other for more than four years.

Ennis continues walking as Jack's truck disappears into the distance.  Suddenly, Ennis looks as if he will be sick.  He falls into an alley and experiences dry heaves.  He punches the wall and cries.

Ennis: God damn, God... (he whimpers)

A passing cowboy notices Ennis and is about to approach him when Ennis turns and says to him:

Ennis: What the f**k are you lookin' at, huh?

The cowboy moves on, leaving Ennis to fend for himself.

New scene:  Ennis and Alma standing in front of a Preacher on their Wedding Day.  Ennis looks nervous and Alma looks happy.

The congregation is saying The Lord's Prayer:  and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Minister:  Under the powers vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife.  You may kiss your bride...

minister adds in a joking manner:  and if you don't I will.

The congregation all chuckle.  Ennis and Alma smile and kiss one another gently, Ennis carressing Alma's cheek with his thumb.

New scene:  Ennis and Alma are riding a toboggan down a snowy hill.  When they reach the bottom they fall off the toboggan.
Ennis stands up and offers his hand to Alma while saying:      You alright?
Alma pulls him down to the snow and they start "wrestling"...
Alma (laughing):     No, don't, stop!

I told her, strong backs and weak minds run in my family.... didn't think that was too funny (he laughs).... I told her keeps me fit..... ( Ennis doesn't say a word)

Ennis looks out into the distance, seeming to be elsewhere...

New scene [this was the last scnee I posted before we lost a lot of posts a few weeks back.  ;)]

Ennis and Alma are watching the 1964 film "Surf Party" from inside the truck at a drive-in movie.

[Dialogue from the movie:]

Boy: Mornin'.

Girl: Mornin'.

Boy: Pulled in last night... didn't want to wake you up.

Girl:  Oh now, I was just...

Boy:  I thought I'd tell you before the sergeant showed up... parking this trailer on the beach is illegal!

All the while, Alma puts Ennis's hand on her swollen abdomen so that he could feel the baby moving...  She smiles, and there is a look of wonder on Ennis's face.
